(Chapter 4) A Dragons blessing is...my Life and a Favor??

He softly sighed while a roar of pain and anger came from the crater in front of him. He was examining the gem an saw no new cracks but the singular crack there had gotten worse then before, threatening to split in half now. He was just happy he didn't feel any pain this time around as he shivered a bit in fear from the memory. He had a creeping suspicion he was really screwing himself over here and if he tried to use that magic even once more, he was going to die. Then again he almost died multiple times in the last day alone so it wasn't anything new. He perked his ears up as the pointed forward towards the crater while he did his best to get up with his one leg before hopping over. A rock suddenly slipped out from underfoot as he fell forward before being sent tumbling head over leg down into the crater and crashing against the side of a Blue and white dragons body covered in wounds and blood. He softly slumped to the ground as the breath was knocked out of him as he drew in air raggedly. A hoarse deep grating chuckle came from above as a large head swiveled into view above his body. The dragon looked down at the figure that crashed into its side and softly smirked before grimacing in pain, turning its attention elsewhere briefly before looking at the boy again.

"Hmmmm missing three limbs, half a tail, broken horns and both its wings yet it's still alive. Your an interesting little thing young lad. Your determination to survive is admirable to and extent." The dragon curiously stated as it looked at the young boy curiously then its eye stopped onto the gem in his chest. "You... Interesting." The dragon huffed quietly murmuring to itself as it examined his arm that still had traces of his two affinities. The dragon let out a pained wheeze as it got briefly distracted again.

The figure below had caught his breath and was looking at the dragon carefully, its very presence and the weight of its mana sending fear through his body. Strangely enough though the presence of the dragon was getting weaker which confused him. He then managed to sit upright which earned the attention of the dragon again as its head swiveled back towards him closely. "He-Hello um.. what do I call you??"

The dragon chuckled softly as it spoke, "You mortals are a funny lot hmm. Did you want my name? Then again I am going to die soon so not much harm can be done. You may call me Peril. Bringer of the Northern Blizzards and many other titles but they mean nothing much now. To be takened down by a runt like you who is almost dead an doesn't even know how to utilize magic properly besides flinging it and expelling it! That's the worst way to use it and with the voidic affinity?! Your just trying to die at this point! Hahhhhhh and the dumb emotionless confused expression on your face is pissing me off."

He sat there just confused as he looked at Peril rant. He then tried to hurriedly change the look on his face as he became more confused before suddenly smiling at Peril. "I-is this better? I don't kno-" he said before being cut off again.

"Oh no that's worse, now your just smug- Hmm you shush." Peril sighed letting go of her anger, shaking her head as she curiously looked at the gem again before shifting her eyes into slits. The gem seemed to shake ever so slightly while his limbs and wounds started to regenerate. He could feel different energies of magic flooding into his body, mending his torn muscles and fractures and sealing the crack in his gem heart over weakly. He looked on in shock as he looked at his arms and legs and tail as the magic slowed down, his wings were still gone but his horns were back. She then used magic to examine his body, soul and mind before recoiling back in horror and shock. The magic connection between the two being severed quickly as she breathed raggedly. Her eyes scanned over him fearfully before slowly calming down.

"Young lad, do u remember anything from your past?! D-Do you know what's inside you? That thing in your soul?!" Perils voice spoke gravelly deeply an slowly. After healing his body her presence and magic had gotten substantially weaker, her scales having lost there magical luster and radiance. She looked to the sky's above a glint of fear in her eyes as she then back at him.

He softly shook his head and gazed up at Peril hopefully for any clues, his eyes desperate as he stood up. "No I don't. I only know that whatever it is inside my soul took every memory I have besides Information sometimes, I know there's other races and languages and I also know the basics of magic I but besides that I know nothing. Do you know what happened? My family?? Do you know who casted the spell??"

Peril shook her head an sighed as she calmed down a bit. "Young lad, The spell inside you is alive, something made at a level higher then gods and maybe absolutes. Whatever and whoever it was or is, is either trying to make sure u die or keep u safe from something worse. You seem like a hybrid species of some sort but very similar to a Darcelies which is maybe why someone is trying to kill you as for family, no clue. Who ever it was though is an idiot since the Darcelies went extinct thousands of years ago. They shouldn't be around anymore though.... Hmmm. Young lad, I don't know anything about your situation but you helped me, even though you also shot me, either way I was going to die sooner or later. That spell, from what I can gleam from the inscriptions, though seems to restrict what knowledge your allowed, taking your memories and went haywire from whatever that gem is. Don't ever, and I mean ever let those stronger then u get a good look at your soul and the gem. Whatever is hidden is gonna tempt those greedy for power."

He nodded but gulped as Peril gave him a stern glare, she then stretched a talon out as she knocked him over harshly, knocking the air from his lungs again and making him curl in pain from the blow. "Hmph. Your lucky I wasn't any other dragon since I would've just killed you young one for harming me but, I also need a favor from you. In exchange for my blessing to live and have my treasures, I need you young one to protect my egg and raise it well." She sighed softly "relying on you seems far fetched, Ill be brutally honest and besides, not like I have much choice with options now." She let out a huff at him as his hair was blown back. "Your lucky you have memory loss or I would've killed you for taking advantage of the situation. Since your well, mostly innocent I'm letting it slide young one."

He blinked as his mind raced to absorb what he was hearing and gave a confused look. "You want me to care for your egg? But I don't know how to raise a baby? I- How will- Peril.." He softly shuddered feeling power fluctuate from the last word he spoke. His mind turned up blank as he tried to think of what to ask while confused at what happened.

Peril smirked showing her fangs as she chuckled "Names have power. The more powerful the figures is that the name belongs to young lad, the more power fluctuation there is. You'll figure out how to raise the baby on your own, besides you don't have a choice. To help you though, listen close, The nearest settlement you can reach from here belongs to werefolk and beastmen, Its to the east a little southeastern passed...Hm I think three rivers? and a cliff. Hmmm?? You'll figure it out." Peril eyed the tattered pants that did not suit a cold environment at all he was wearing and tried to figure out where he popped up from as she mused to herself. -Teleportation maybe? Has to be, for him to just pop up in the middle of nowhere. How interesting. To bad I wont be able to study him. First interesting thing to happen in millennia-

He didn't even get to speak a word in looked up at Peril seeing her in her own thoughts as she reached to her chest, ripping a scale free and tossing it to his feet. He quickly bent over and scooped it into his hands before looking back at her softly blinking confused. He then felt something warm an wet on his left bare foot as he looked down seeing a spreading pool of thick red blood that seemed to have a green brown hue to it coming from Perils body. She laid her head weakly on her side as the magic emanating from her body was gone as she spoke, her voice firm an still strong. "Be a good young lad now and hurry along, the scale will let u through the barrier this time. Oh and one last thing, make a spirit contract with my child by moving your affinities to your hand and let the egg absorb it naturally. Oh- and keep the egg near the heat stones in the cave. Now go please, grab my egg quickly and let me see it one last time before I die.." She nudged him away with her snout albeit weakly as her throat rumbled deeply spewing a little bit of lightning to zap him an make him move. She then muttered to herself softly her words escaping his ears.

After being zapped he quickly started to bolt to the lair, his new regenerated legs firm an strong beneath him as he smiled in glee as the wind rushed passed him. His tail flicked about behind him as he ran to the barrier before passing through it easily, the scale acting as a kind of key still having a sliver of the dragons magic in it. He immediately sees nothing at first as he suddenly crashed into a wall, falling backwards onto his ass with a pained grunt. The tunnel opened a bit but was completely pitch black an curved suddenly to the left and down. He had assumed it kept going straight and didn't give his eyes to adjust to see before slamming into the wall. He carefully got up rubbing his bruised nose in pain while grimacing a little in embarrassment as he looked around. His eyes adjusted as he then started to run down the tunnel again quickly, his footsteps echoing through the tunnel loudly. In the back of his mind, a worm of emotion started to bud as worry and a sense of trepidation started to spread through his body. His movements became more hurried and rushed as the words last said by Peril started to have a weight behind them. He started to push his body fully sprinting down the widening tunnels and breathing rapidly as his body started to move more in sync having becoming adjusted to having his limbs back.

His ears perked as he rounded a corner, wincing as he went through a barely visible barely with the tunnels lighting up bright as day suddenly. Magical gems glowing with a yellowish colored light littered the walls an ceiling while light reflected on a mountain of valuables. He blinked having his eyes refocus to the glaring reflections an light as he saw the egg of Peril up on the top of the mound, surrounded by magical stones that seemed to burn with fires at the center. He ignored the treasures around him as he started to sprint up the mound, sending valuables cascading behind him in mini avalanches as he got to the top to the egg. He blinked seeing how big the egg was as it was the size of a bowling ball but egg-shaped before trying to pick it up carefully. The eggs surface was scalding hot from the magical fire stones while the egg weighed a good 50 pounds roughly. He tried to carry it as carefully as possible back down the mound quickly, sometimes slipping an sliding down. Once his feet touched the solid ground he started to sprint back to the surface even faster now. His breathing started to come in ragged gasps while his breathing pattern became uneven before finally reaching the entrance to the lair. He then took a deep breath as the cold air hit him, cooling his body off while shocking his lungs briefly. His steps crunching through the snow rapidly as he ignored it and ran to Peril before slowing down as he got closer then stopping.

Peril had a smirk on her face as her eyes stared at the boy but there was no life left in her eyes. Her head was still laying on her side as sickly brown greenish protruded around her irises an spread between her scales on her body. Quite a few scales had seemed to rot off of her body as another scale fell from her head in the quiet. A metallic clinking sound echoing through the trees along with the wing. The blood around her body had slightly frozen an was a sickly red green color now as he stared at her listlessly for a bit.

I-I failed her... He looked down at the egg in his arms, his thoughts turning into a raging mess as everything seemed to shift briefly to another view of a memory with the same situation, immense rage an sorrow spilling from him for a second before the spell in his soul repressed his memories, his emotions from the memories having been leaking through briefly as a overlapped happened. The spell then sent a shock through him as the emotions disappeared. He blinked as he felt his face was wet before becoming confused. He wiped his wet face and looked at Perils corpse emotionlessly briefly then at the egg as he carried the egg back into the lair. He had a lot to plan and think about over what Peril had told him, he didn't have time to stand around an study a corpse that was poisoned. He wiped at his face wondering why the wetness came from his eyes before assuming it from some snow or frost. Meanwhile a certain spell in his soul made more layers of protections an restrictions while being influence by a certain gem as if fighting for control briefly before quieting down.
