The Labyrinth's Depths

The Labyrinth's Depths

Deep in the dank bowels of the Vexman labyrinth, the party gathered their resolve after a difficult fight to defeat a Gargoyle. Once they regained their composure, they noticed that yet again, Zain had given them the slip. Where he snuck off to in that cavernous maze, nobody knows. Or why. Or how he got out. But he did.

The party proceeded through the high walls of the maze until they came upon a Riddle Worm. The enormous creature looked like a dork, despite its formidable size and strength. With a little fez on its head and glasses perched in front of its miniscule, beady eyes, the Riddle Worm asked the party some questions. Some questions, that were riddles.

Comprised of some of the dumbest characters in Lorten, it took the party a while to figure out the riddles (although, the players themselves got the answers surprisingly quickly). The Riddle Worm, satisfied, let them pass deeper into the labyrinth.

As they made their way through, they triggered a trap that poured a tumult of water through the maze, washing them to some unknown location to retrace their steps. They did that. Then they came upon the inner vault.

Inside, a high pillar stood in the center of the room. Tenli inspected the pillar, and found a small notch where the very fork that gained them entrance to the vault fit snugly. They inserted it, and stone retracted from the pillar to form a staircase. But the staircase only went halfway up the pillar. At the top, they found another notch - but this one fit a spoon. Foiled, they paused to think through their next move.

As their empty minds echoed, they heard another sound from atop the pillar. It was the squeaky voice of Gugu Gidget, a kind of private eye of Daros. The high elf had found evidence of Vexman’s extramarital affair, but failed to report her findings before Vexman found her, bonked her on the noggin, and imprisoned her atop the pillar.

Given her positioning, the party requested she toss down the treasure to them. She did. Then she took a leap of faith, jumping down from the pillar for Sven to catch her. He mostly did. Kind of. Gugu got hurt, smacking her tailbone hard on the landing of the stairs the party had climbed.

Still! The party now had treasure, a new member, and had but to exit the vault. They made their way through, somehow avoiding any other confrontations with enemies until they reached the entrance to the vaults.

There, they fought hard against a contingent of guards. Gugu, in her weakened state, nearly died. But they prevailed, and made their way up the stairs, past Beorn’s mouse friend, and into the courtyard, where chaos was unfolding.

Guards swarmed the estate grounds. Thankfully for the party, the commotion seemed less concerned with the courtyard and vaults, more concerned with Vexman’s tower. So they made their way into the sewer tunnel they had found prior to the heist, and trudged their way through the muck. Beorn transformed into a rat, keeping his share of the loot - a bag of gems and the mysterious light blue, fluorescent egg - safely stored in his butt.

During their escape, several of the paintings got shit all over them and lost all value. And as they exited the tunnel, the Purple Handle made an appearance! The master thieves attacked the party, and though they were partly foiled, they made off with a good deal of the loot recovered from Vexman’s vault.

All said, as the party stares down the sewage lake and re-enters a Daros that - from the distant cries of confusion - seems in disarray. They leave the late Lord Vexman’s estate up 500 copper, one mysterious egg, one bag of gems, and 3 paintings richer.
