Chapter 29: ~Day 141-145~ The Mushroom sails again

~Day 141~

I blinked my eyes three times, struggling to keep them open. As my blurry surroundings came in to focus, I found myself in a sterile light blue room. On the wall was a orange heart shaped insignia, also know as 'The Healing Heart'. Which must mean I'm in a medbay.

I let out a long sigh. So I've been rescued, after all those years someone finally saved me. I turned to my right and tapped a code in to the lock on my bed. A quiet beeping rang out in the empty room as the healing field around me disabled itself, allowing me to sit up.

My vision blurred a little again, before turning back to normal. I raised my arms stretching, whilst I cracked my stiff neck. Then, the room fell in to silence once again, it's unusual to be in such a peaceful place after all this time.

After another look around, I let out a second long sigh, and fell back down on to my bed. However, before I could close my eyes, I heard a commotion outside, a few raised voices, footsteps, then a loud bang as a greying man burst in to my room. "COMMANDER ANYA!" He sputtered as he tripped forwards barely catching himself.

Shaking my head slowly I let out a deep breath. "Good day Lieutenant Parse." The sputtering aged man in front of me, regained his composure and saluted bringing his hand to his forehead.

"It is most excellent to see you awake Commander." He barely hid his smile under a professional frown. "Although I must say, you awoke much sooner than the Doctor had anticipated." He chuckled nervously.

I scratched the back of my head, and sat back up in my bed. "How long have I been out, where am I exactly?" My words came out almost slurred, I haven't spoken much recently, it's hard to form coherent sentences.

Parse lowered his hand revealing a nervous smile. "It's only been nine days since we picked you up on that planet, when the alarm went of that the healing field had been shut of we feared the worst." He sighed.

I waved my hand. "I had no real injuries Parse, there was nothing to heal." I lifted myself off the bed steadily prompting Parse to try and steady me. "I'm fine, Lieutenant." I said brushing him off. "Now could you tell me where I am?" I repeated the question.

Parse showed me a puzzled expression. "Have you lost some of your memories ma'am? You're on Captain Obedyas command ship Widows Revenge." He raised his finger.

I nodded my head slowly. "It's been four years, Parse. I thought maybe you would have grown tired of that old b*sterd by now." I loosed a wry smile.

Parse shrugged his shoulders. "That 'old b*sterd' was the only one willing to save you. That planet interfered with the system of every ship that came close. We couldn't even scan the surface to check for survivors." He shook his head sighing.

Well, that would explain why we weren't rescued in a few weeks, that would be the usual situation. "But I saw lights, from the planet surface, which means the Widow was in the atmosphere. How did Obedya manage it?" I asked puzzled.

Parse smiled. "Captain Obedya has had the Widow refitted with new experimental systems and engines. Everything's solar powered now." He tapped on the wall.

I folded my arms. "Solar powered? That's it? We've had solar powered ships before, why did it take four years for someone to try it?" I raised my eyebrows.

"I did say experimental. Don't ask me how it works, I'm a strategist not a scientist." He shrugged. I nodded my head before walking over to a nearby table that held a clean uniform. "Uh, what are you doing?" He asked walking over to me.

I turned my head to face him. "I'm getting dressed. I assume the council will want to speak to me. I have been gone a while." I replied, reaching down for my uniform.

Parse reached down and stopped my hand. "I understand that you're feeling better, Commander. But please, you should rest more." He pleaded me with his eyes.

I narrowed mine in return. "What's wrong Parse." I tilted my head.

He looked away from me. "It might be best not to tell yo-"

"Parse." I interrupted his sentence before he could finish it. Clearly he wanted to hide something from me.

"I... Uh.. I'm not sure..." Parse stuttered.

I placed my hand on his shoulder. "Parse, I just spent four years on a planet filled with creatures trying to kill me and eat me alive every day. I can take a bit of bad news." I told him firmly.

He let out a sad sigh. "It's more than a bit of bad news, Ma'am. The truth is, this isn't just a medbay, it's a jail too. The door is coded to not open to your voice or override codes no matter what." He let out another sigh.

I was taken aback slightly. "A jail? Why? I have committed no crime." I assured myself.

Parse motioned for me to sit down. "Do you remember when we found you?" I shook my head, my memories are fuzzy after I saw the lights. "Commander... You were

half rabid, you kept trying to scratch at us, bite us, attack us. It took ten fully trained officers to restrain you... Even then, you killed a member of the medical staff." He sighed.

I slumped downwards, wrestling with my brain trying to remember. It's true, that in those four years I was on that planet, I may have gone a little wild, but... To kill someone without even knowing it. Come to think of it though, my minds clearer today than it's been for a while. "I see... Suppressant drugs?"

Parse nodded. "It's how I knew it was safe to come in here." I see, so they've used drug to calm me down, lower my brain activity maybe? I don't know much in the way of medicine other than basic training.

I rubbed my eyes and looked back up at him. "So what's happening."

He scratched his chin. "Well the plan is to slowly take you off the drug, see what level they still have an effect at. Either way the amount you're currently on is not a long term solution." He shrugged.

I nodded my head. "I understand, then what?"

"Well when you're deemed safe, and we've reassured the crew, you will of course be allowed to leave. After that, the council will decide." He looked at apologetically. "I'm sorry Commander."

I shook my head. "Don't be. It was that f*cking planet." I replied gritting my teeth. "So I guess for now, just go back to sleep?" Parse nodded his head. "Sh*t." I replied.

Parse chucked. "My thoughts exactly Commander, if I'm honest we need you now not later."

"And that means..?" I asked.

Parse began heading for the door. "It's not my place to tell you. As I don't entirely understand myself." He replied as the door opened. "But get some rest Commander, I'm not sure how different your life will be to the last four years." With that strange warning, the Lieutenant left my room.

I paused for a moment, and had a look around my room. The only exit that singular door, and the only keypad tuned to deny me. I am truly stuck in this room.

Still, it can't be worse than that damnable planet. I narrowed my eyes thinking on Parses last words...

Can it?

Urgh. So... Groggy.

I felt ill as I stepped out of the cabin I was assigned. I don't get sea sick, so I'll assume it's related to the memories currently resurfacing in my mind. I remembered that entire conversation clearly in my mind. Is that due to my current memory improving, or due to my previous memories becoming clearer as I left the planet?

Either way, it's becoming more and more clear how I lost myself when fighting Ekri, if I killed an innocent healer, why wouldn't I kill my enemy? What I don't understand, is how it happened originally.

As I stumbled out on to the deck I spotted Alka and Gial conversing over a spread out map on a barrel. The sea was calm, and the crew was busy soaking up the sun. After a deep breath, sucking in the fresh sea air to clean my head, I began walking towards the Orc and Elf duo.

Gial turned his head towards me. "Ah, the sleepin' beauty awakens." He jested. Alka glanced in my direction and gave a quick polite nod.

I cracked my neck as I arrived by their sides. "Good morning." I replied, hoping that it was still morning.

Gial chuckled, tipping his hat down lightly. "Barely morning miss, you're just, ooh ten minutes shy of bein' reprimanded." He grinned confirming my thoughts.

I gave a wry smile. "Sorry, I know I've already slept more than long enough these past few days." I shrugged letting out a sigh.

Gial waved me off. "Don't sweat it Ellena. Should be an easy goin' trip, just enjoy yourself." He told me a turning back to the map.

My brow furrowed. "Easy going? With those monsters about?" I replied, the doubt in my voice clear.

Gial turned to me. "Monsters? You mean from the Krakens corruption?" He asked one eyebrow raised. I nodded my head in response. "Wait, don't tell me, y'all got caught up with some on the way to the Dead Isles?" He sounded genuinely surprised.

"A Decopod Sea Lord." I replied nodding my head again.

Both Alka and Gials eyebrows raised at the mention of a Sea Lord. "A Sea Lord?" Alka asked. I nodded once again. "A Decopod... Sea Lord..." She said monotone.

Gial took his hat off, placing it against his chest, he then let off a whistle. "Well colour me impressed, too kill a Sea Lord, I don't know how you did it, but Gods damn." He grinned.

I shook my head, whilst I did finish off the creature, I couldn't have taken it on myself. "It wasn't me, the thing could have killed me with ease. It was a man called Hawkwood..." I stuttered at the end. I wonder, have they arrived at the capital by now? Did they all make it to the Demon Continent okay? I haven't really thought about it, with all that's gone on, but now I'm free it worries me.

Gial scratched his chin. "Hawkwood... Ballud Hawkwood right?" Gial asked.

I nodded my head. "Have you met him?" I asked in reply.

Gial shook his head. "Can't say I have. We just made sure to know who we were raidin' from. I've heard he's a pretty tough fella, but to kill a Sea Lord is damn impressive." He chuckled before putting hat back on. Then, Gial turned to me and patted my shoulder. "Still, you have nothin' to worry about little lady. Y'see the humans haven't been on these seas as much as we have. So they don't know how to avoid the Corruption." He smiled.

I tilted me head. "You do?" I asked.

Gial laughed proudly. "No doubt little Missy, you know how weak the Dark Elves are right now? You think we could survive travellin' these here waters if we couldn't dodge them?" He asked.

Come to think of it... He is right. Hawkwood was much stronger than anyone here, yet even he struggled through it. "How then?" I asked the grinning Elf.

He wagged his finger at me. "Easy, not only do we build our ships for speed, we also build them to scare away Monsters." He winked. I gave him a questioning look to which he pointed down. "y'see the bottom of this ship is coated in monster repellent which is sealed in place by magic." He explained.

Oh, is that it? I was expecting something a bit more exciting. "But even with monster repellent and a fast ship, that doesn't explain how you avoid the Corrupting. I mean it creates beasts like the Sea Lords, surely the repellent doesn't work on them?" I asked him.

Gial turned around and pointed towards the front of the ship. "Look up there." He told me. doing as he said I looked past his finger and saw a few mages firing some sort of light magic in to the water. I turned back to Gial for an explanation. "The Corruption doesn't stay still, the only true way to avoid it, is to know where you're getting close. That's what they do, they fire pulses of their own magic in to the water as extensions of their bodies, the can feel the water out, feel traces of the Corruption." He smirked proud of himself.

Okay, now that does makes sense. I'll need to tell Lord Avalas and Hawkwood about this for their return trip then they can spread it. Of course it'll add a lot of time on to their travel time, but lives are more important than time. Speaking of time. "Is that why your ships are built to be fast too? To make up for all the dodging and weaving you need to do?"

Gial nodded. "That's correct, even our slowest ships could outrun even the fastest ship from the Central continent." Even their slowest ships? I didn't look around all the Islands, but I can't say I saw many ships, to be honest I thought this was one of few. Although to go raiding they would need more than that.

Hold on does that mean we'll arrive at the Continent faster than I thought? Avalas said three to four weeks, but will the Dark Elves be faster than that? "When will we arrive at the Demon Continent?" I asked Gial.

Gial ushered me over to the map. They had a few ports circled and crossed out. "That's what we've been mullin' over. Y'see going to the port of Davat would be quickest, but Krazakon is closest to the capital. So it depends on how much of our time we want to spend on the Ocean." He let out a long sigh.

Krazakon... That's the port Avalas was heading for. There's a chance some of the crew stayed behind, they could help us get to the Capital easier. I imagine the Demons might be a little hostile towards the Dark Elves when they show up, so some friendly faces will help either way. "I say Krazakon, my friends were heading for that port, and the Dark Elves could do with some allies when we arrive." I said.

Alka made a slightly high pitched noise of discomfort without changing her expression. Gial and I turned to her, quite surprised. Gial stepped forward. "Are you okay... Ma'am?" He asked tentatively.

Alka lifted her head slightly and gulped. "What Ellena says is... Reasonable... However I'd prefer to be off this ship as soon as possible... I'm not too comfortable... On ships." She forced out. Now that she mentions it her face is pale.

Gial looked down and studied the map. "Even if we do go to Krazakon, the trip will only take a max of 12 days. Can you survive that long?" He asked with a hint of glee.

Alka nodded reluctantly. "Hold on. Twelve days?! Even if your ship is faster, Lord Avalas said it would take at least three weeks to reach Krazakan from the Dead Isles. Surely this ship can't be that much faster?" I blurted out.

Gial pointed to the back of the ship, where there were two more mages shooting some form of wind magic out behind us. "When they get the go ahead from the mages at the front of the ship, they speed us up, they fire some in to the sails, and some behind us. We can get around in no time." He gave me a big thumbs up.

I stared at the smiling fool in front of me. "You're really proud of yourself, huh?" I asked.

Gial nodded happily before folding up the map in front of him. "Now that's out of the way, go and enjoy yourself Missy. Not every day you get such a calm sea." He grinned.

I looked down at the ocean, true it was somehow almost flat. "I will do, thanks Gial, Alka." I said as I walked away.

Alka and Gial walked together to the captains cabin. I don't know who the captain is, my guess would be both of them, the tension between both sides would turn worse if only one of them was in charge.

With a hole day to kill I went to see what the rest of the crew were doing. I found Venya and Alvir playing together in the water, they seemed to be racing, but obviously poor Alvir is only a Wolf, he can't even come close to Venyas speed. Although, with the big dumb grin on his face you could never tell.

I found Odwiff inside the ship, he was having a rather lengthy discussion about blacksmithing with a few eager Orcs and Elves, which is one way to get the two closer together. I sat and listened to him for a few hours, but I don't have any plans to become a blacksmith, so I left after a while. Still, it was nice to hear the old man so enthusiastic.

Then, there was Wrok. Who just sort of sat there. On a box. Watching the sea. He struck quite an imposing figure, but surely it must be boring. He sat on that box for hours. Everything I walked past him he was still there. Meditating possibly? Who knows.

Either way, after wandering around the ship and talking to various groups, I cam to realise something. Everyone still seemed a little afraid of me. Despite the fact that both Gial, Wrok, Venya and Alka were strong too, everyone seemed to avoid me. To tell the truth, it got me down.

They weren't rude about it, and many seemed grateful, even amongst the Orcs, but it was still a little upsetting. Still, at least the others aren't scared of me, I don't know what I would have done if Gial or someone started avoiding me. I doubt he really fears anything though.

After the day was over, and I retired to my bunk. My particularly large bunk, I realised I hadn't really accomplished anything today, I didn't speak to anyone about my memory, or even train any skills.

This trip maybe short, but starting tomorrow, I should find some way of passing the time productively, every day I waste is a day badly spent.

~Day 142~

Since everyone was doing their own thing still, I decided I would do something productive as I planned. The only question is what? I can't exactly practise swinging Skullcrusher and on top of that sparring with anyone could be dangerous. This ship is light and fast, but thanks to that it's also quite weak. I can't imagine this being a good raiding ship.

Of course, I thought of all this the before. I had the exact same problem when I left with Hawkwood and Avalas. Which is why I borrowed some leatherworking supplies from a few Dark Elves.

Honestly I don't need any new armour, the armour Odwiff gave me is better than anything I could make, but if I get my skills up enough I could make other useful items, likes bags or something. I can also make armour for those that wear light armour.

As I began working on one such armour, a chest piece for Gial, to thank him for his help, a few of the Dark Elves gathered around me. It seems they're also leatherworkers and they were interested in my skill level.

Most of them were very skilled and gave me a few pointers as I worked. In fact, by the end of the day, the chest piece was already looking far better than anything I'd made before. There were less rough edges, and the seems were much neater.

Of course a piece of armour like this will take another few days to complete, so at least I had something to do for the next few days.

~Day 143~

Just as I had planned yesterday, I carried on working on the chest piece for Gial. he must have heard about it from some of the crew, as he came over to observe today. Well I say observe, he mainly sat around drinking with the other Elves.

Today I wanted to focus on getting the actual chest piece finished, so I can focus on the finishing touches tomorrow. I didn't level up yesterday, which disappointed me, but surely I should level up at least today or tomorrow right?

After midday Gial was dragged away by Alka, turns out he was bunking off from his work. As strong as he is, it feels like he wont do well in a position of authority. Soon after, most of the Elves and Orcs around me went back to their own work. There's only a certain amount of time you can waste watching one person.

Still it was kind of them to offer me so much advice, especially considering how many of them still act a little hesitantly around me. There's still a hint of fear in most of them.

Before I had noticed, day had turned to night, most of the crew turned in for the night those left were the night shift mages, and a few stranglers including me, Alvir, who was now resting at my side and Gial who sat watching the ocean with his pipe.

At this time, I liked to turn to the sky, rather than the sea. As beautiful as the sea is, as it reflects the moonlight and stars, nothing beats the actual sky itself. I think that's what I was looking forward to the most about getting back in open sea and with no monsters to worry about, I could truly enjoy what I was seeing.

I slumped against the railing at a quiet spot near the back of the ship as Alvir rested his head on my lap. The sky flew past me, with not a cloud insight. It was odd, to thing on the Central Island it was the Season of Rain, down here, near the Demons Continent it almost never rains.

In fact, many considered the Dead Isles paradise, well before it was the Dead Isles of course. Even now, the weather is the perfect in between the two continent. It makes me wonder what sort of weather the monster continent might hold.

"May Wrok sit?" I heard a voice call out to me from my side. I didn't need to look who it was, Orcs just announce themselves out of nowhere anyway. I wonder why they do that?

I nodded my head. "Go ahead." After a few seconds I heard the clank of a sheathed blade against the railing as the athletic Orc sat down. Did he want to talk again? I get the feeling he isn't much of a talker though.

For a while the Orc sat in silence next to me. Ordinarily that would have felt awkward to me, but he has a reserved meditative presence about him, almost like an aura of calm. Which is odd, as I haven't felt it before, perhaps it's a skill he uses to meditate?

A few more minutes past before the Orc spoke again, startling me. "It is always odd." He said calmly.

I blinked a few times and looked down at him. "What is?" I asked confused.

He turned his eyes from the sky to look at mine. "The calm. The peace. It always happens after a great battle... After a great death." He replied, his eyes turning back to the sky.

I raised my brows and joined him. "I think people are tired of death after a battle like that. Calm makes sense." I answered him. At least that's the way I look at it, he probably meant it in a more philosophical way.

"Wrok has been watching you." He changed the subject.

I looked at the Orc again, a slightly puzzled expression this time. "Okay?" I replied, not knowing what my response should have been.

Wrok grasped his sword and lent it across his lap then crossed his legs. "Wrok will continue to watch you. Wrok, just wanted to tell you that." He stated. I blinked a few times and looked away again. I had already guessed that, being as he wanted to accompany me to see who I was, it only makes sense he'd be keeping an eye on me right? Why is he telling me? To be polite?

Another hour past, Alvir began to yawn, Gial had gone to the captains quarters to sleep and Wrok had not spoken another work, in fact he hadn't even moved. After one last look up at the twinkling nights sky, I left Wrok to keep meditating and collapsed on my bunk. It may not be quite as exhausting as a good fight, but leatherwork can still be tiring.

~Day 144~

It didn't take much longer, to finish Gials breastplate. I had just about managed to level my skill once, before I finished it. The breastplate had a fur lining, unfortunately it was not quite as nice as the wolfs coat I used before, but I didn't have any of that with me. So I used Mollit fur from the Elves.

It left his arms free and was made with his jacket in mind, the left side of the neck was covered by a small collar attached to the chest. I also embroidered a pair of sails on both sides of the back of the armour. I wasn't sure if the Dark Elves had a particular symbol, but I thought something ship related would suffice.

When I gave it to him, Gial seemed to like it. It's probably my best work, not that that's saying much. I went more for functionality than appearance before, but this actually looks quite nice. He told me he would wear it when we meet the Demon Queen. I'm flattered he likes it so much, but I'm not sure it's quite good enough to be shown off in front of a Queen.

Well, either way, it's on to my next piece. What with the success of that one, I thought, perhaps I should make something for everyone. Maybe even something for Verros, something small, I don't know when I'll see him again.

Still, for now, I'll make Odwiff something. He can make his own armour and it several levels above anything I can make, so I thought instead I'd make a sling for his back to hold his hammer in place. As far as I know he has always just held it, but surely it would be easier for him if it could be rested on his back.

This piece shouldn't take too long, it's just a strap, but I still want to do it right. Odwiff has done a lot for me, and it's not much, but I need to thank him somehow.

Today, as I worked, Alvir sat with me. With the help of the hot weather, Venya had actually managed to tire him out. I wasn't sure such a thing was even possible, but the Wolf sat next to me, happy to be in the shade of main mast. Although together, we took up all of the shade of the main mast.

It was another easy day and it past by with no incident. To be honest, I'm a bit anxious to train up my skills, so I wouldn't mind if a few little monsters attacked our ship. Of course if any little monsters came by, they wouldn't be stupid enough to attack us, so there's not much chance of that happening.

Maybe I'll ask Gial sometime if there's any way we can safely lore something up here to fight. To be honest though, I'm almost certain that's not a good thing to be thinking though. I should be praying that we have an event-less journey, not the other way around.

Still, I really can't knock this peace and quiet. it's also surprisingly helping tensions between the Orcs and the Elves. Just a few days ago they could barely look at each other. Today I saw a few sit down and play a game of cards together.

I can't say we'll get to the Demon Continent without some sort of incident between them though, you don't get over years of oppression that easily.

~Day 145~

Odwiffs was completed late afternoon. Unfortunately, I didn't level up from making it, but then it wasn't too complicated. Just a sling with a small sheathe to pop the handle through. I did work on making it a little more comfortable that it otherwise would have been, since I had a lot of spare time, but it was still just a sling.

The ship's quite a small ship, so it didn't take me to long to find Odwiff. He was sitting below deck, which a chair and small table pulled up next to a barrel of rum. On the table stood a few candles, and a set of parchment.

I tried to take a peak and what he was using it for, he seemed to be drawing designs, for a hammer or mace of some kind. There was another parchment underneath. "What are you drawing?" I asked him.

The Dwarf almost jumped out of his wrinkled skin. He turned his head slowly whilst clutching his chest. "By Gudrins Anvil lass! I don't know how you managed to sneak up on my with a body like that. But if ya could refrain in the future', me ol' heart can't take that kind of excitement." He jested.

I let out a chuckle and pulled up a large stool sitting myself next to the table, I towered over both him and the parchment. "If your ol' heart can take what happened the other day, then your ol' heart can take a little bit of surprise." I replied with a grin on my face. I lent in to get a closer look at his work. It was definitely a diagram of a mace on the top. "Thinking of changing up your weapon?" I asked him.

He turned his head up to mine and gave a wry old grin. "Oh this ain't for me lass. No no, this for you." He tapped the paper.

I furrowed my brow. "For me? Why? I use Skullcrusher." I said as I tilted my head.

Odwiff placed the quill he was holding down in front of him and folded his small arms. "Well, y'see I've been thinkin' about it Ellena. All of yur' skills, and ya' body itself seems ta be geared towards defence more than anythin'. Am I right?" He asked glancing towards me. I nodded my head. "Yet, ya' fight so recklessly. And wid'a big ol' mace ta boot." He carried on. I can't deny him, even I realise I'm a bit of a berserker sometimes. "So that's why, I've been designin' these." He finished picking up both sheets of paper.

On one sheet was the mace, the other was a large matching kite shield. It had a little mushroom logo in the corner. I looked past the parchment at the old Dwarf. "Odwiff... You've already made this armour for me. To accept these too." I said shaking my head.

Odwiff smiled sadly, placing the sheets back on the table. "Well. They're still early in their designs yet. T'also depends if the Queen will lend me a forge ta' play with, but I think you should have them. I can teach yer' t' fight more defensively too. I jus' think it'd be good for ya lass." He said giving me a much warmer smile.

I lent down on my knees and wrapped my arms around the old man. "Thank you, Odwiff." I replied, touched. He's done so much for me already and now he's already doing even more.

Odwiff wrapped on arm around me in return. "It's alright lass, it's nothin' t' get sentimental about." He chuckled quietly.

I pulled back from the hug and sat back down on my chair with a soft grin spread across my cheeks. Then I remembered why I originally went to find him. I scratched my head awkwardly and held the strap towards Odwiff. "Uh. It feels kind of pathetic compared to what you're doing, but I made you this... To hold your hammer." I mumbled looking away from him.

Odwiff took the strap out of my hands slowly, and slung it around his shoulder. "Hey it fits perfectly." He grinned. He then turned back to me and noticing my red face wrapped his arm around my torso. "Ah come on now lass! Yur redder than a drunkard on his weddin' night!" He said with glee in his voice. "Still... Thank ye' lass. This'll come in handy." He thanked me, patting my back lightly.

I breathed a sigh of relief. "I'm glad you like it." I guess, I'll start my next one tomorrow. Although I have no idea what I'll do next.

Odwiff waved me off. "Course I'd like it lass." He sat back down and started to jot down notes again. "Say, lass. Do you have any more plans t'day?" He asked me his eye twinkling in the light.

I scratched my chin then shook my head. "None as such, why?" I enquired.

Odwiff stretched his arms. "T'be honest, as much as I like designing weapons n' armour, I'd prefer t'get your take on them. Since they're fer' you." He replied with a wink.

A big grin spread across my face. I may have created my own weapon before, but there was something infinitely more exciting about someone else forging one from your designs. Perhaps that's just the memories of my life as Rose talking, I could watch Odwiff and his son forge for hours on end without getting bored. I nodded my head firmly as I moved my seat a little close to Odwiff and the table.

I spent the rest of the day, sitting next to the old Dwarf as we went through several designs for a Mace and Shield. As night rolled around, we must have gone through a dozen parchments. A few of them covered in bread crumbs from lunch and dinner and a few more with just a splash of rum from after that.

It wasn't exactly what I had planned to do, but it was still a day well spent. Although, to be honest I would be happy with any of our designs. It was just nice to hang out with Odwiff again, without the guilt of hiding who I used to be. I really should have just told him as soon as I saw him really.

I wonder though, can I train myself to fight defensively. Fighting like that seems to be hardwired in to my soul thanks to that damned planet I was stranded on. Odwiffs point is definitely valid though, I should at least attempt to be a more defensive fighter, even if my soul is apparently against the idea.
