~Day 116~
I found an interesting downside to my new height and having horns today, getting them stuck in the wooden beams supporting the roof. Well, when I say stuck, they tore right through them, so there wasn't any harm to me, but I'm sure the structural integrity of the house suffered somewhat.
It also says something about my new power, that I wouldn't have even noticed if not for the sound, well, there was a feeling too, but the point is my horns tore through the beam like butter.
Thanks to that the Ex-slaves and now paid workers offered to make me taller lodgings free of charge. I accepted, but told them to just build something quick, I'm only going to be here a few weeks after all. It would be strange to just have one oddly tall house in a village of Elves.
After that small incident, which had Odwiff almost in tears from laughing, we set out to find a dungeon, or at least somewhere that would make a viable training ground. As far as I remember there wasn't a single dungeon on this Island, I don't know about any of the other Islands, but there's probably at least one. There's also the fact that several hundred years have past since I was last here, so a new dungeon may have formed anyway. Well, the others weren't able to find any yesterday, and Odwiff told us that he had no knowledge of one on this island anyway.
So, we had to go to the closest island, after some persuasion Torvinn let us borrow the ship. The Dark Elves were training with each other and hunting the monsters on the Island. Torvinn had to stay in the village and oversee preparations, however he made us take Tiva and Leoth with us. They were both stronger than the other villagers to the point that the Monsters on the island wouldn't do much for them.
Well, it's not like it mattered much, even with the extra eyes we didn't find a single dungeon on this other island either. We did find a cave which had the potential to become a dungeon, it had quite a powerful monster at the back of it and a sort of room seemed to be forming very slowly around it. So in a few hundred years it could be a very good dungeon, for that very reason we left the monster alone, even if it would have been a good test for my new power.
I did want to test my strength though, since this island is inhabited by a few monsters only, I thought it would be a good place. I told the others I was going to find a big rock to punch, an odd sentence out of context. Of course they all came along, it looks like I'm not the only one interested in my strength.
I found a large boulder sitting on a small beach near where we anchored the ship, by large I mean about the size of the ship. With a small crowd of onlookers I felt a little under pressure, still I prepared myself, putting myself in a firm stance I pulled back my fist and launched it. As my fist connected with the boulder a shockwave burst from my hand blowing our hair back and shaking the nearby trees, an impact crater cracked in to the boulder for a brief second before the entire boulder exploded in to more pieces than I could count. After a few seconds all that was left was a rocky foundation sticking out of the ground. I clapped the dust of my hands and turned around. "Well?" I asked to the group behind me, each showing a different level of surprise.
"Well... Seems to be quite useful, aye lass?" Odwiff smiled.
"That's what I thought too" I returned a smile. Since we spent all day searching the island it was already time to head back home.
When we did arrive back on the island we found a large... Tent, I think would be the best description for it sat attached to the wall, a few thick blankets of cloth attached on one end to the wall for the roof. The other end of the cloth fell to the floor, but was held upright by several thick planks of wood embedded in the ground, it was the same case for the other two walls. A large doorway had been cut out of one of the walls.
This tent was to be my home whilst I'm here, although they offered to build something better and told me this was just temporary. I honestly don't mind, they have more important things to worry about. Besides, they managed to hammer in a wooden floor for me and it's surprisingly warm. For a bed they covered a quarter of the room in a few blankets and pillows, it didn't look like a bed, but to be hones the actual beds I've been using haven't been able to hold my body anyway, so this works out well.
I was eager to test this new bed out, I finally won't have my legs hanging over the end of my bed, and it's been a while since that luxury. So, since it was late anyway I went to bed straight after we ate. Verros got the old house all to himself whilst Alvir slept with me. Somehow there was enough room for both our large bodies.
As I fell asleep in this new bed, I thought about taking it with me when I leave, as it's much better than any bed I've slept in for a while.
~Day 117~
It was another day of dungeon searching for us, Leoth and Tiva joined us again today. I've noticed that Leoth seems to be fine with us now. He's stopped glaring at Verros, Odwiff and even me. In fact he's started following my lead. It might have something to do with Tiva's change, although she still glares at me alot, she doesn't treat us anywhere near as badly. Well it probably helps that she seems to hold certain feelings for me. I'm becoming accustomed to noticing these things now, I can't decide if that's a good or bad thing. Saying that I don't think it's anything serious.
Anyway, today we wen't to a third uninhabited island. It was larger than the last, but not by much. The size doesn't matter though, what does matter is that we actually found not one, but two dungeons! Side by side, well quite close. If I go by what I learnt from the 'Lair of the Lonely Wolf' I'd have to say that one has a powerful Frog for a dungeon boss, whilst the other has a Mollit. I didn't even know there were any Mollits nearby.
Still, even stranger than a Frog being a dungeon boss, he also must be the higher levelled of the two, as the Frogs are much more powerful than the Mollits. As that's the case, we divided up in to two groups for the day. As the two most powerful, Odwiff and I headed in to the Frog dungeon, whilst Tiva, Leoth and begrudgingly Verros went to the other one. Of course, Alvir joined Odwiff and I as he wouldn't behave otherwise.
Still, it was quite a fruitful day, we managed to hack our way to the third floor in the first day. I can say this much, this dungeon doesn't seem anywhere near as designed as the Lonely Wolfs, if it weren't for the and strange rooms I would have just thought it a cave. I'm pretty sure we would have made it further if each floor weren't a maze.
The first floor was filled with Great Frogs, which are just large human sized Frogs with venomous tongues and Grey Wolves, obviously the Grey Wolves didn't bother us, we even took a breather in their den whilst Alvir played with the pups. On the other hand the Frogs were a pain. Not tough to kill, they just swarmed, they had more territory than the Wolves and seemed to number in the hundreds. We did manage to find and kill their leader, which Odwiff informed me was a Giga Frog, I killed it with one punch.
The second floor presented more of a problem, it was larger and yet another maze. What's worse is the corridors were a little claustrophobia. Not very wide and with a low ceiling. The walls were also covered in giant spider webs, so it was clear what was dominant on this floor. The Spiders were just a little larger than Odwiff, they were called Cavern Crawlers. Other than them there were two Frog variants on this floor. Both had the ability to climb on the walls and ceilings, but one could also spit acid for some reason. They were not very fun to deal with. Even Odwiff had never heard of Frogs that could use the walls like a spider.
Their leader was the most terrifying thing, a giant Frog with six legs that hung from the ceiling of the only large room on the second floor. Still, Odwiff and I managed to kill it without it landing many hits. I got a good gage on my defence today, as the giant spider also shot acid at me which melted through the floor, but couldn't melt through my arm. It was very painful though, so I'm not going to make a habit out of it.
Whilst we were fighting the huge frog Alvir was apparently having a battle of his own, fighting the Spiders leader. I have no idea what he looks like, as when we arrived at the scene Alvir was sitting in a giant puddle of blue blood and viscera wagging his tail. He was so happy even with his health so dangerously low. Still, he found the way down to the third floor for us. Since it was a maze it took us all day to find it, Odwiff drew a map as we walked, he seemed beyond happy the more lost we got. A Dwarf is at home underground after all.
When we made our way out of the dungeon I checked to see how Alvir and I did. Alvir grew from [Level 19] to [Level 26], not a mass of levels, but it was just the first two floors. More powerful monsters than were in the first two floors of the Lonely Wolfs dungeon though. Even the first floor seems to vary from dungeon to dungeon. As for me, I grew from [Level 01] to [Level 03]. So two levels, really not a lot, but like I said it was just the first two floors. I think that Frog boss that spat acid was probably one of those levels.
As for the other three, they came out a few minutes after us. They seemed quite tired, especially Tiva who's clothes were heavily ripped. Verros told us that they managed to reach the second floor and make it part way through. Whilst the monsters inside weren't too tough, they got ambushed at one point, Verros' spear is only really made for one on one combat, so he had trouble there. The boss of the first floor sounded very similar to one of the Megalits I fought before. Still, Verros seemed satisfied, he even said he didn't mind fighting side by side with the Elves, they weren't as much of a liability as he thought they'd be.
So it was the end of our first day of dungeon crawling. It's giving me a nostalgic feeling, not just as I'm dungeon diving again, but because I'm fighting Frogs again. I still remember the very first monster I killed, it was a frog. I really struggled with that battle, now I'm ripping through much stronger evolutions with ease. Funny how much has changed.
There was a surprise waiting for us when we arrived back at town, Gial and his family were there. Well, there was also one other family, but they didn't have any powerful warriors with them. Gial and Torvinn told us that this town, and subsequently this island is going to be the meeting point of all the families. They're all making their way here to prepare and plan for the battle. It's also as insurance, Wrok will definitely tell Ekri who started the rebellion, and who knows what she'll do knowing that. If she sends assassins we need to make sure we have as good a defence as possible. Of course there's also the risk of having all our leaders in one place too, but they believe it's worth it.
The only problem is Wrok said that she wants this battle, so in that respect only, it may be a bit pointless. Regardless they're here now, and there's sure to be more families pouring in soon. For some reason Eltor and Lenia, the first two leaders we met hadn't arrived yet. I can understand why Lenia might be late as she was quite reluctant, still I hope they haven't done anything stupid. Although I've been assured countless times that the Dark Elves won't betray each other.
After we all made our greetings and the like, we got to drinking as Gial insisted on it. Torvinn however, chose to stay sober as the host and elected leader of this arm. I say elected, it's just that no one else wants to do it. Instead, he reprimanded me for leaving his sister with our weakest members, to which I fought back with how she's been in constant danger since we started this whole thing.
He did calm down eventually, however it was already too late for me to join in on the drinking. Everyone had started to go to bed to just leave Odwiff and Gial drinking together and I'm not joining those two drunks.
So, I went to bed completely sober and a little ticked off. At least my feet weren't cold though.
~Day 118~
Today I got woken up early by a lot of commotion going on outside my makeshift home, there was a lot of whispering and soldiers running around until the door to my tent wrenched open. It was Gial with an uncharacteristically sombre expression. "We're gonna need ya on the wall pronto." He informed me before running back out.
I don't know what the situation is, but it's quite clearly a dire one. I dressed myself quickly and found my way outside grabbing Skullcrusher as I did. There must have been a hundred armed Elves with weapons pointed towards the gate, the leaders all stood on the walkways above the gate. I ran up to the top to see what had everyone looking so intense.
When I saw it, I could see why. Three Orcs walked towards us, one was large and hulking but wore no armour, he carried an axe that must have been larger than me. His topless torso was littered with scars and tattoos. To his side walked Wrok, who looked almost miniature in comparison, he held a regretful expression. Ahead of them walked one other Orc who was clearly a woman, she was larger than any other Orc we've come across other than her friend with the Axe, yet she still held quite a feminine frame. Her armour was clearly expensive and tough, but also battleworn. She wore no helmet however, she had short spiked black hair and a large scar over both eyes. She sported a confident smirk. I also noticed she appeared to be carrying something over her shoulder.
Still, it wasn't hard to guess, this was Ekri. I turned to see the dark expressions on the Elves faces, many of these Elves fear her. I scanned over the Elven leaders faces. Gial stood with a serious expression, but did not show any emotion, it was the same with Torvinn, however the sweat running down his cheeks gave away his nervousness.
The Orcs finally stopped in front of us. Ekri scanned across our faces with a confident smirk, then took a deep breath. "Ahh, you would not believe how long it took me to find this place." After a breif pause to scan us again she carried on. "I even had to ask directions." Saying that she threw the load she was carrying on to the ground in front of the gate. Now in front of us, it was clear the load was two bodies, two Elven bodies to be exact.
"Eltor... Lenia...." Torvinn sighed. "I'm so sorry." He whispered closing his eyes. It was barely visible under the damage done to their faces, but they were indeed the Elven leaders. Good people, good people that wouldn't be involved if not for us. I looked up at Ekri's smirking face. I'm sure she would have killed them regardless of involvement though, I thought narrowing my eyes.
Ekri grinned. "They weren't very talkative." She said shrugging her shoulders with mocking exaggeration. "It's lucky that my good friend Darc here is such a people person. Got it right out of them." Ekri beamed motioning towards the giant Orc next to her.
Tiva gritted her teeth, somehow holding back her anger for once. Torvinn wrapped hands with her to calm her down. "What are you doing here, Ekri?" He asked a slight shake in his voice.
Ekri shook her head clicking her fingers. Darc pulled what looked like a metallic tree stump out and placed it on the dirt. Ekri slowly planted herself on it. "I hope you don't mind, since I didn't think you'd offer me a seat I brought my own." She sighed getting comfortable.
"Answer the question Orc." Gial growled.
Ekri's expression changed in an instant. "YOU DO NOT MAKE DEMANDS OF ME ELF!" She yelled jumping of her chair, her eyes wide like a wild animal. Many Elves cowered in fear, as just her yell was enough to shake the very ground. Even Alvir shuddered lightly. Ekri took a few deep breaths lowering herself back in to her chair. With a chuckle her expression changed back to it's previous state. "My sincerest apologies, that was awfully rude of me." She cleared her throat. "I came here to confirm what Wrok told me." She answered looking in my direction. "And it's just as he said, the Elves have found themselves some interesting allies. A Human, a Wolf, a Dryad and most curious of all a Dwarf." Ekri turned her head to look at Odwiff. "I'm pretty sure I remember you being hung up on a wall by Torvinn. So tell me Dwarf, why are you fighting side by side with him?"
If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Odwiff smiled. "Lesser of two evils lass." He winked leaning forward on his hammer. Ekri's grin quickly fell from her face.
She clenched her fists and quickly released them again her smile returning. "I was going to offer you a place by my side, but for that comment you'll die with the Elves." Odwiff brushed her off with a scoff, ignoring him she turned to us. "As for the rest of you, the offer stands, I have no quarrel with you, but if you fight with them, I'll have no choice but to exterminate you alongside them." She stated cheerfully.
I took a step forward leaning on the railing in front of me. "Are you that sure of your victory?" I asked.
Ekri lent forward in her chair. "To tell the truth Dryad, I could easily kill everyone of you right now. I just really like big battles." She replied to me. It was clear to me, that at the very least, this Orc's entirely confident in herself, she believed we did not stand a chance. Which was actually our advantage, arrogance is a weakness on the battlefield.
I folded my arms. "I wouldn't be so sure." I replied to her, with a smirk of my own.
She sat back faking offence. "Oh really? Do you believe yourself my equal Dryad?" She asked me in a mocking tone.
I shrugged my shoulders. "I think so." I replied.
Ekri sighed. "You think so, is it?" The Orc gently raised her arm pointing her finger in our direction. Then without any warning a bolt of lightning shot from her finger towards us. Before anyone could react it had dissipated in to nothing, as I turned to see what she had done I noticed one of the Elven leaders bodies flop to the floor, his head nowhere to be seen. Torvinn and Tiva who would stood right next to him were covered from head to toe in the Elves blood and brain. Just like that, we lost one of our generals. "Do not test me, little girl." Ekri warned me lowering her arm. Tiva let out a quiet whimper as she gripped on to her brothers shoulder. Torvinn attempted to stay composed, but was visibly shaken.
However, my heart was pounding, I felt sadness and guilt for the death of the Elf, but also an odd excitement, this Orc was more powerful than I had anticipated, and she was my foe. I steadied myself and took a calming breath. "I may not be your equal, but I still can't back down." I said with resolution.
Ekri's smile faded completely as her upper lip twitched. "Find, I tried to help, but if you want to fight on the wrong side then so be it. You can die with the rest of them." She waved her hand dismissively.
"No matter which way you twist it, Lass, it's you that's on the wrong side here." Odwiff shook his head.
Ekri stood up again, her anger barely contained. "I don't think you quite understand the evils of Elves, Dwarf. They take lives without a care for the consequences. I lost my entire family to the Elves arrogance." She stated.
I heard some snickering beside me with almost became full blown laughter, it was Verros. "Your family, is that it?!" Verros scratched his brow. "I can't believe this." He shook his head.
The air around Ekri seemed to grow darker and the ground beneath her began to rumble. "You laugh at my suffering boy? I was a child when I watched those Volcanic Elves slaughter my f*cking parents." She growled.
Verros gave another barely restrained laugh. "And it wasn't even Dark Elves? God's preserve me." He chuckled to himself.
The ground began to crack around Ekri. "I don't think you quite understand boy. The Elv-"
"NO IT'S YOU THAT DOESN'T UNDERSTAND!" Verros yelled showing sudden anger and contempt, completely interrupting the clearly overpowering Orc. I had never seen him like this, he can usually keep quite calm. "Your family? Is that it? I lost everyone! My family, my friends, my clan, everyone. All to Mountain Elves." His expression changed to sadness. "I'm all that's left." His voice cracked a little.
Ekri's anger rose. "THEN WHY DO YOU FIGHT FOR THEM!?" She yelled at him her fists clenched so hard that she cut in to her own skin, blood trickling between her fingers.
Verros scoffed. "Why? Because they have nothing to do with it. My people were killed by Mountain Elves, not Dark Elves." He replied.
Ekri gritted her teeth. "But they were still Elves!" She insisted.
Verros stood back." Then let me ask you this. How would you feel if a king started slaughtering all Orcs because one tribe burnt down a human village?" Verros asked.
Ekri chuckled darkly. "They already do that." She answered.
Verros nodded. "And do you think that's fair?" He asked her.
Ekri shook her head. "Of course not, but that's different."
"IN WHAT WAY?" Verros yelled back, his eyes full of disgust.
Ekri paused. The aura around her slowly fading away. She unclenched her fist and the wounds on her hands began to seal up almost instantly. She narrowed her eyes then sighed. "My moods been ruined. Darc, Wrok, we're leaving." She turned around and pushed in between the two. Darc hurriedly picked up her seat and followed after her like a faithful dog. Wrok paused to look at us all and offer an apologetic expression.
Just before she disappeared behind the treeline Ekri paused to turn he head again. She looked straight at Verros. "When the day comes, you'll be the first to die boy." She gave him a dark promise before she left..
For a few moments, we all stood in silence, even after the Orcs could no longer be seen. We all stood still, as each of us knew, that if she had wanted, we would all be dead right now. I'm not sure that even I will be able to take her on.
Next to me I heard a shaky sigh and looked to see Verros slumping against his spear. "I was sure she was going to kill me." He chuckled. I had completely forgotten about what happened to Verros' family and yet I just decided to help these Elves without even consulting him.
I placed my hand on his shoulder. "Verros, I completely forgot. I'm sorry about..." I didn't really know what to apologise about first. Helping the Elves without asking him first, or forgetting about what happened to his family.
Verros shook his head. "It's fine Ellena, I meant what I said. The Dark Elves have nothing to do with the Mountain Elves, so they're not to blame." He smiled sadly.
"Still, at least we know why she hates us so much, even if it ain't 'xactly rational. Thought she was 'sposed to be smart for an greenskin?" Gial said scratching his head.
Odwiff chuckled. "Smart and rational are two different things lad." He replied patting Gials leg. To which Gial shrugged in reply. "So what do you think lass, can you take her on?" Odwiff proceeded to ask me.
I shook my head. "I'm honestly not sure, I still don't quite know how strong I am right now." I replied quietly, we couldn't risk the Dark Elves hearing, we don't want any more morale drops. I turned to Torvinn. "What do we do now." He didn't reply, he just stared at the spot Ekri just stood in. "Torvinn!" I raised my voice shaking his arm.
He jerked back to reality and looked at me mouth agape. "Uh... Oh yes.. Right." He replied still out of it.
I got closer to him. "What do we do now?" I whispered raising my eyebrows at him.
He took a deep breath, then took a look around. "Right, yes. First things first." He lent over the back of the rail to address the Dark Elves inside the walls. "Open the gates, gather the bodies. We need to bury our dead, let them rest." He nodded at Gial. "If you could." Gial nodded and picked up the headless leaders body carrying it down the wall. "Now the rest of you, we don't know what Ekri might do next, she could attack the others families or just wait for us to be ready. What we need to do, is be ready first. I'm going to message the other families and tell them to hurry as soon as possible. Your job will be to make us ready, build accommodations, make weapons, do anything, we have to be ready." Torvinn looked across his people who all stood below him in shock. He slammed his hands down. "GO!" He yelled. They also slowly walked away to go perform various tasks.
Torvinn sighed turning back to us. "I'm afraid I'll need all of your help too. We're going to need all your strength and stamina to work as quick as possible."
I nodded my head. "I'll have to go back to training sooner rather than later, but I'll do what I can." I ran down the steps of the wall. Verros, Alvir and Odwiff followed close behind. I turned my head to see Torvinn hugging his sister, her face still showing surprise.
"looks like everything's finally caught up with the lass." Odwiff commented.
I gave an affirmative mumble. "I think we've all realised we've been taking this a little lightly. Her power, it's more than I thought." I sighed.
Odwiff snorted. "Aye lass. I think ye may be right." He replied.
This was serious, I could hope that magic was her speciality and her ability in close combat is lacking, but I doubt it, she's an Orc after all. Honestly speaking I should get as much training in as possible, but it's true that we need room for the army that'll be making it's way here soon enough.
So that's what we did for the rest of the day, Odwiff and I carried trees around, when I could I helped to carve them. Verros went hunting for the food needed for the forces coming. It was a long day of exhausting work and by the end of it we were barely halfway done. Probably not even that far.
Everyone was exhausted, when we next saw Torvinn and Tiva it was at dinner. They were cleaned up and TIva seemed to have calmed down, but it was clear that she was not exactly alright. I do wonder if she'll actually be able to fight in the end.
That night, when I went to bed I didn't find myself comfortable and cheerful like the previous few nights. I mean, still comfortable, but I wasn't exactly enjoying it like before. I was scared like the others, but also something different, something I didn't want to tell then. I was excited, so very excited to fight Ekri. I honestly don't know if I'll survive this one.
~Day 119~
There's not much to discuss about today, I just spent another day helping to build a camp. Torvinn had sent messenger birds to the remaining families, so they'll hopefully be here within a few days. Until then we had to finish.
Today I helped to clear out a large chunk of the forest. It was my first time seeing such a large warcamp, then again I suppose it's my first time seeing a warcamp. Even though we were only halfway done there was still well over a hundred tents littered around the village outside the wall. Well we had started to build a war for the camp too, not that it would help against Ekri much, but it certainly would help against the grunts.
It was mine, Odwiff and Gials job to build the wall, as each of us could pick up at least one entire post to shove in to the ground with ease. The image of a dwarf carrying around a tree sized post didn't lighten the spirits a bit though, it looked very out of place.
By the end of the day we had managed around two hundred tents and enough supplies for around four hundred Elves. It wasn't enough for the entire army, but it was more than enough of a start and very impressive for just two days. At least I thought it was impressive, I'm not exactly used to this whole war thing.
It was just in time too as the first few families arrived, they filed in to the camps and began making themselves home. Our army was growing, it's a shame it won't ever be at it's full size thanks to Ekri's interference. Odwiff believes that she didn't just kill Eltor and Lenia just to scare us, he thinks that she was trying to cut down our numbers. Not exactly because she was scared of us, but to minimise casualties on her side. Can someone like her really still care for her own people that much? Why put them in danger at all then?
Anyway, I decided that tomorrow I would go back to the dungeon, if I want to stand a chance against Ekri I need to level and train as much as possible until then. Torvinn agreed, but asked if the other could stay and help until the camp was ready. Verros clearly didn't want to, but he did anyway. The only one that would be coming with me was Alvir, as he can'r exactly do much to assist here. He's still a Wolf after all.
I went to bed quite early, as I wanted to get as much training is as possible tomorrow. Somehow, the sounds of a bustling army only made me feel more at peace. It reminded me of my old life somehow...
~Day 120~
Just as planned I left early morning, around dawn. I used a row boat to reach the island since it was just Alvir and I. Although it did seem to struggle with our combined weight, it was designed to hold a few Elves, not a larger Dryad and Wolf.
We made it to the dungeon and quickly fought our way through, this time making it to the fifth floor. We actually managed to conquer both the third and fourth floor today. Which is surprising as each floor is larger than the previous, and each more complicated. I also didn't have Odwiff today, he lent me his maps, but I couldn't work out how to map the dungeon myself. I got lost a lot. It was more Alvir's natural instinct that prevented us from being lost completely.
The frogs on the third floor were the strangest yet. They had shells like a snail would, big hard rock like shells. I called them Rock Frogs for now, but who knows what they're actually called. They were unsurprisingly a lot tougher than the other frogs, although they still went down easily enough. They also for some reason didn't have venom in their tongues. The floor itself was kind of mossy and a little overgrown. The room in which the Rock Frog leader resided in was almost swamp like, it had giant Lilly pads sitting across a small muddy lake. They were also strong enough to take my weight. The leader itself wasn't much larger than the other, but it's skin was rocky, not just it's shell. A strange green rock, that also happened to be it's skin. It still died easy enough, but Alvir did seem to hurt his teeth on it's skin. There were three other monsters on this floor too. Rock Wolves, which didn't bother me, but weren't very soft so I didn't stick around them too long, Rock Fish, that resided exclusively in the lake room and Stone Golms.
There seemed to be a rock thing going on in this floor, even though it was more of a swampy floor. Honestly, this dungeon doesn't seem to have much consistency, I don't think the dungeon Boss is too bright. Or at least it isn't quite right, perhaps it's gone a bit crazy from being alone here so long? The Lonely Wolf did tell me that Dungeon Bosses can't leave their dungeons.
Anyway, nothing gave me trouble per se and the Rock Fish were just passive. The Stone Golms were two legged ten foot stone monsters. I haven't seen one before in person, but I've seen them in books. A lot of powerful mages tame them and use them as guards, they're quite intelligent creatures and can be very loyal when treated well.
It also took us a while to find the way to the next floor, which we eventually found was down an odd underwater waterfall at the bottom of the lake, somehow the water sprayed out the bottom of the lake in to a wide room underneath, but never actually hit the ground and never actually drained from the lake. It was also possible to climb like a ladder from underneath. Such a bizarre dungeon.
The fourth floor was exactly as I thought, as in larger and more maze like. What I wasn't expecting to find was that it was inhabited by three creatures only. Three big boss monsters, absolutely nothing else. The corridors were like normal dungeon walls, with crude lighting and just plain rock.
I found this floor especially odd as I thought that the monsters naturally bred and populated each floor, so a floor with only three monsters and dozens of empty long corridors was a bit odd to me. All three were also giant thirty foot frogs. The first of which was a white frog surrounded by a windy blizzard. His tongue made of ice, and his eyes a deep red. The floor around him had frozen over stretching out until it reached... The lava. Yes, for some reason, the room had lava pouring down from all the walls in to a moat that surrounded it. The frog didn't look happy, but he also couldn't leave as the door was much too small for him. Alvir and I took care of him quickly, it actually seemed kinder than letting him live.
Maybe the dungeon boss is smart, but is just an a*sehole? The other two Frogs weren't in much better condition. One, a fire Frog, sitting on the top of a small mountain in giant room surrounded by a forever raging blizzard. The very opposite of the previous room. I don't know how long he'd been here for, but the fire surrounding his body was dull, his eyes lifeless. He barely even fought back.
The final frog at least didn't seem to be suffering anywhere near as much, although he was still out of place. A blue Frog which was clearly soaked in water, in the middle of a scorching desert room. Which may sound bad, but he had an oasis nearby. Obviously the dungeon boss didn't want it's victims to die. The dungeon boss did make the oasis too small for the Frog to even partially submerge itself though, it had the depth of a puddle. This one did try it's best to fight back, probably out of frustration and anger more than anything.
Either way that was as far as I could get today, these floors are just getting too large. I did find the way to the next floor, after I killed the last frog and returned to the waterfall room one of the walls had parted down the middle to reveal a ramp downwards, so that was my direction for tomorrow.
I think I'll be bringing Odwiff tomorrow even if Torvinn doesn't want me to, I really need a Dwarf's help down here.
Before leaving for the village I checked to see how many levels that netted Alvir and I. Alvir grew from [Level 26] to [Level 34]. Considering the fact that we didn't actually fight too many monsters today the growth wasn't bad. As for me, I grew to [Level 6] today, which also wasn't too bad. I'm hoping that my levelling will speed up a bit when we reach deeper levels though, as I still doubt I'll have the power to take on Ekri for a while.
We left for the village just as it was turning night, when we arrived back I saw that another three families had arrived, that just left one or two more to arrive I belive, and there seemed to be enough room for them, so I don't think Torvinn will be against me taking the others tomorrow. I told them about the oddness of the dungeon and they all had drawn blanks too, Odwiff and Gial who had done a lot of dungeon diving over their lives hadn't seen anything like it either. Neither had Verros, who had also seen his fair share of dungeons in his short life.
Odwiff was quite intrigued to see how much weirder it got. I don't really blame him, to be honest it's a good distraction. Everyday I could see the fear and anticipation grow in the faces of the Elves and off my companions. I could feel mine grow too. Of course, behind that all, my excitement also grew. The fight was drawing ever closer, the largest and most dangerous battle I've ever been a part of.
Good training for the battle with Levias, I hope.
