Quick edit: Whoops, put wrong chapter number, sorry bout that
Author notes: So here we have another chapter. Originally I was going to try and release two chapters this week, but something in the beginning of the week left in a sour mood, so I only just felt like writing near the end of the week. But here we go another chapter. :D
Now I noticed a few people mention that a lot of characters only appear for a chapter or even just one day. There are two reason for this.
One: I want this to feel like a world, Ellena is travelling so she'll meet a lot of people that she wont necessarily see again, as they have lives.
Second: There will probably be a book after The Daily Diary is over. This book, which I won't reveal the name of as it's a bit spoilery, will have a lot less travelling in, and many of the characters will be in it more often. If I write it. :)
Anyway, enjoy the chapter!

~Day 76~
It was another day of relatively good weather, with a small amount of luck it will be a while until we truly reach the season of rain. I don't fancy travelling across the sea during that season, I've never really been on a ship before, but living on a small island you hear a lot of stories. So I know that trade and work via the sea is often practically halted during the rains as the waters become too rough to realistically travel on regularly.
In any case, it's been almost two weeks since I left the capital, so we should be getting close to the coast. I didn't want to waste the weather so I had Verros take control of the wagon, as I decided to join Alvir with levelling. took the left side of the road and he took the right.
I know that most monsters to be found here won't supply me with many levels, so I'm going to use my speed and sight to spot the most powerful monsters in the countryside. It shouldn't be too hard, there aren't too many forests around here so I can see as far as the horizon in some directions.
The first monsters I came across were Black Wolves, even though I had Alvir with me I had completely forgotten that thanks to Wolfmother the Wolves would not attack me if they were weaker than me. I felt bad about attacking monsters that won't attack me back so I left them alone.
...
Over the next twelve or so hours I hunted what little powerful monsters that I could. Well, I say little, it was more than I thought I would see, I guess the Wolves were a good indication. I managed to get quite a few Bearhounds too. Aptly named creatures, a cross between dogs and bears. Monsters hunted by only the veteran hunters.
By the time I returned to the wagon I managed to level up from [Level 55] to [Level 57]. It was more than I was expecting, not that I'm complaining. Alvir however, somehow managed to find himself a group of Megalits. How do I know? Well the fact that his health was halved, he was covered in scratch marks and that he also happened to be dragging a whole Megalit corpse in his mouth sort of gave it away.
It's incredibly reckless of such a small Wolf to attack a group of such massive foes, even if he did win it was still very fifty-fifty. It also did help him get from [level 09] to [Level 16], so I'll let him off this time. Although I do think it's about time I gave him a bit of training or something, you should not be smiling after a battle that left you half dead. I do realise that's the pot calling the kettle black as it were, but this pot cares about her kettle.
Verros came over whilst I was cleaning Alvirs wounds, he asked me how well we did and when I told him... He looked very shocked.
"SEVEN LEVELS!?" His eyes widened. "Even for a genius it should take weeks to level that much!"
I scratched my head, well I suppose it's about time I told him. "Listen. You know how I told you my Mothers in the Great Rurrian Alliance?" He nodded still appearing shocked. "She adopted me, when I was a Mushman."
His face went blank. "A Mushman... You were a Mushman?" I nodded weakly in reply.
"Yeah, you're probably wondering why a powerful Dryad would adopt a dumb little Mushman, right? It's because she looked in to my head, she saw my memories. My memories of my previous life..." I looked in to Verroses eyes. I saw as the gears clicked and his whole face widened in surprise. To be honest I didn't need to have such a dramatic reveal, no one else really learnt this way, but for someone who always looks so serious I thought it would be interesting to see his reaction.
"You... You mean you're reincarnated?" He stuttered.
"Yep, two hundred years a go I died a human, then, a lot more recently I woke up in the Great Forest itself, a Mushman." I smiled.
His features returned to their usual positions at surprising speed. "To be honest, that explains a lot." He began scratching the stubs of hair on his chin. "I've never heard of anyone reincarnation two hundred years later let alone in to another species."
"Well actually I know of a human that reincarnated in to a Demon."I piped in.
"I see..." Verros looked deep in thought, then his expression turned back to surprise. "Hold on, even reincarnated people don't level that quickly! There's still something off..." I shrugged my shoulders, honestly I don't know much beyond that, I never really purposely levelled in my past life so I don't know what's normal, of course I've been told that my speed is abnormal, but it's the only speed I know. "Although... Recently I've noticed my skills and level increasing quicker. Even before I met you..."
I snapped back to attention. "Since when?" I asked.
He shook his head. "I can't be certain but I started speeding up about half a year ago. Honestly I just thought I was improving, but seeing you I've changed my mind."
Well... This is a revelation. That's before I was born, so that means this phenomena isn't related to me. More surprisingly it effects other people. Does it effect everyone and they just haven't noticed? Verros didn't really think too hard about it and he's quite perspective, maybe the speed increase was gradual... To be honest now I know it's not just me the only thing I can think of is "Lavias." Verros interrupted my thoughts with exactly what I was thinking.
I nodded at him. "Maybe the God's are giving us a helping hand?" I shrugged.
He looked at the floor troubled. "Can they do that? If they can, why not just help us more directly? Why be so roundabout about it? And why make the effect so unnoticeable!?"
I shrugged in response. "Maybe they don't care enough about us? Or maybe this is a game to them. Who knows, they're Gods. They couldn't be more different to us."
Verros breathed out a long sigh. "One day, I just want to talk to a God, just to ask, just to see." He shook his head lightly.
We sat in silence for a few moments, Verros began cooking some Meat on the campfire, he decided to take cooking in to his hands since my food is so awful. After another few minutes his face twitched like he remembered something. "If you level that quickly and were reincarnated 'recently' then how long have you been alive exactly?"
I let out a nervous chuckle. "Ha. Uh... Seventy five days." I spat out under my breath. Verroses face lost a bit of colour.
"And-uh... Ahem. How old were you in your last life?" He asked in a upwards inflection.
"I was at the ripe age of nineteen." I boasted, somehow it made me proud.
Colour returned to Verroses face and I though him mutter 'thank the Gods' under his breath or something.
I stifled a laugh. Not like I can blame him, pledging your life to someone who's about three months old would make anyone feel a bit dumb.
The meal that Verros cooked was definitely better than mine, it was satisfactory, definitely on the level of an restaurant or even an inn, but it sufficed.
We set up the wagons overhanging makeshift roof to protect us from the potential rain, then after a bit of light reading we went to bed.
~Day 77~
It was a good thing we put up the makeshift roof. It's not exactly heavy rain, but it's just about enough that it would be irritating to wake up in. Verros cooked us a quick breakfast and we left.
The rain is light enough that both Alvir and I can carry on hunting. So that's exactly what we did. We seem to be almost constantly moving downhill at the moment, at this rate I can predict that the coast we're heading to is cliffless. Not that I know what I'm talking about, to be honest I don't even know if 'cliffless' is a term. Beating things up and farming is what I'm good at, not understanding how the coast works.
I only managed to bag one level before I heard a commotion over by the wagon. By the time I got back it was already over, a dozen bandits lay dead on the ground and Verros stood above them streaked in blood.
"Are you alright?" I asked him as calm as I could.
His breathing was sharp. He turned to face me. "Yeah, I'm fine they weren't any trouble." Oh, so I guess that's their blood on him.
"Uuurgh." We both looked at who was making that sound. One of the bandits was still alive. I walked over to her and lifted by her collar. She vomited blood turning her chin crimson.
I brought her up to my face. "Do you work for Kol?" I growled.
"Huh... What, Kol? No, not Kol..." She sounded Hazy, blood was pouring out her wounds. She won't live for much longer.
"Good. Then I'm not breaking my end of the deal." I threw her down to the ground. Blood flew in all directions from her body.
Even in her state she began to chuckle. "You're...the one that made a deal... With Kol? Too... bad he's in prison..." She coughed up blood.
What? Prison? "How'd that happen?" I raised an eyebrow.
She smirked. "His... Men weren't... too happy with the 'deal'... They, betrayed him whilst he was still recoveri-" Her voice stopped, as her heart did the same. The blood running of her face in the rain.
With the news I sat next to the wagon. "So he kept his promise, huh?" I sighed.
Verros put his hand on my shoulder. "But his men betrayed him."
I sighed again. "Well, since they don't work for him anymore does that mean I can 'get in their way' do you think?" I turned to face Verros.
He scratched his chin. Then shrugged his shoulder smiling. "I guess so." He chuckled.
After cleaning up the bodies and burying them we got back on our way.
...
By the time the day ended I managed to reach [Level 59], even with the distraction I still managed to level three times today. I think the layout of the land we're currently in probably helps, with all the hills I've managed to find plenty of caves filled with monsters, seems the more powerful monsters like to hang out in caves and dungeons. I even found a pack of Iron Wolves far off the trail, of course me being stronger than them made them docile.
Alvir who was absent during the bandit attack managed to get a full days hunting in. I still have no idea what he hunts most of the time but he managed to get from [level 16] to [Level 22]. At the rate he's going he'll probably evolve before I do. I wonder what would happen if he became an Alpha? Can he even become one if i'm the pack leader?
Speaking of being a pack leader; after seeing the Iron Wolves I've been thinking that maybe I should get one for myself. They didn't have any Wolves that were up to my standards, so even though having an Iron Wolf with increased levelling would be useful I left them alone. Still, I do want an Iron Wolf, maybe I should stop being so picky.
Verros wanted to know a bit more about me today. I'm not entirely sure I can trust him yet, even if he has only acted trustworthy I feel as though I shouldn't be naive. I held back certain details, however I told him about everyone back in the forrest. He was also interested in my human life... About everyone I knew back in the village, it is where we're heading so I understand his interest, even if talking about the long dead puts me off.
The rain was beginning to get heavier by the time we went to bed, we made sure to find dry ground to sleep, o we ended up sleeping on uncomfortable hard rocky ground at the base of a small cliff.
~Day 78~
An absolute downpour. That's what we woke to. The ground below the rocks we slept on was beginning to flood. Perhaps under a cliff wasn't the best spot to sleep.
I took control of the Wagon today. Alvir looked itching to hunt even in this weather, but I don't want him soaking all our stuff. We found ourselves winding down a muddy wet path, even then the beauty of rain stood out.
The gentle pittar patter of rain and the dark cloud covered sky made me want to fall asleep. I've never understood why people say that dark, rainy days are depressing. In their own way they're just as beautiful as the other seasons. Sparkling snow or warm suns alike.
It was a very peaceful day, we didn't see a single bandit or monster all day, even bandits don't work in heavy rain. There has been increased amount of traffic passing us however, we even passed a few villages and inns today. We're reaching the more populated area of the kingdom again, which means we're close to the coast.
In fact by the time we ended the day we could already hear Seabirds. I know the sounds as you could hear them everywhere on my Island, it was small enough that the sound reached every inch.
Due to the weather we found a nice cave for us to sleep in, one filled with Grey Wolves. They didn't bother us, partly because of my skill and partly because they were scared of Alvir. I'm not sure why they were scared, or how I knew, but perhaps they've had a bad run in with a Grey Wolf Berserker before.
I had Alvir sleep on the other side of the Wagon so everyone in the cave could get some sleep. He was quite happy to do so as long as I came with him. Before I went to sleep, I sat against the wagon watching the rain fall. It clears my mind and relaxes me. It didn't take me long to fall asleep.
~Day 79~
It happened today, we finally reached the coast. By my count it's been longer than two weeks, but we did stop on the way... Several times. Luckily by the time we reached in the rain had mostly subsided. I was also right, there was no cliff, just a long beach.
We reached the coast early afternoon, I've seen the sea before, so it didn't shock me, but I still find it beautiful. The problem is, we now need to find a boat or ship to get to the islands. I can only see small fishing villages around here, nothing that could take us across the sea. I know from the queens maps that there's a coastal city somewhere around here, so we just have to find that. I decided to ask for direction at the nearest village.
By the time we reached the village I had already put on my hood, now that we were in populated areas again I felt the need to. I'm sure I'll get used to peoples stares one day. One middle aged farmer came over when he saw our wagon stop. "Heya strangers. You need somthin'?" He gave us a toothy grin, surprisingly friendly for someone talking to complete strangers.

"Um. We're trying to find the coastal city, you couldn't point in the right direction could you?" I tried to sound polite.
The man absentmindedly scratched his leg. "Ah Boulder Bay is it? aye miss, it's about half a days ride west. That way." He pointed westwards, I do at least know which way west is.
"Thanks, you've been most helpful." Verros said whilst bowing to the man.
The farmer raised his hands in protest. "Now, now I'm just doing a citizens duty. Oh by the way, you ought to be careful. Them Dark Elf raiders have been targeting travellers on the coast as well as fishing villages recently." His smile disappeared as he said those last words.
"Dark Elf raiders?" Verros and I swapped puzzled expressions.
The man looked surprised. "Oh, ye ain't heard? Yeah, a bunch of the Dark Elf clans from the Dead Isles have started raiding the coast recently. Which is weird in itself, the Dark Elves are mercenaries and warriors, not criminals. What makes it weirder is that they won't even accept payment to stop." The farmer scratched his rough beard.
Dark Elf clans live in the Dead Isles, they live in my old home? I'm not angry, but... I don't know, somehow it doesn't feel right, it feels, disrespectful? "Well, uh thanks for the warning. Have a good day." I forced a smile under my hood and waved at the man as we rode off. It was only a few hours away from when we usually set up camp, so getting to this 'Boulder Bay' won't be possible tonight.
We decided to find a nice spot on the beach to set up an early camp and soak in view of the sun sitting on the sea. A sunset is only made more beautiful on the water.
We did take the farmers warning seriously, even if we were camping on the beach our wagon was hidden behind some large rocks and where we were sleeping was hidden behind a few slightly smaller ones.
Tomorrow we'll find Boulder Bay and get transport to my old home. Somehow it was only just setting in. That I'm so close, I have no idea what will be waiting for me. I'm both terrified and excited.
~Day 80~
The farmer was right, it did indeed take us about half a day to reach Boulder City. It had castle walls, but they weren't anywhere near the size of Phoenixes, in fact they didn't even reach all around the city. At the rear was the bay in question, and in the middle a giant boulder the size of a small mansion. We rode up to the gate, a group of guards talked to all those entering or leaving the city. The security was even tighter than the capital, possibly due to the Dark Elf raids, although this looks excessive even then.
After a few hours it was finally our turn in the queue, I'm not much of a queuing person, but in this situation pushing through the others would have just made it worse for us. It won't take us long to actually get in to the city though, thanks to the Gold passes the Queen gave us. The guards ushered us over. "Remove the hood and state your business." One of the guards said.
I mentally sighed, not this again. "I have this Gold pass, do I have to remove my hood." I said getting it out.
The three guards in front of me began talking amongst themselves, until the one seemingly in charge spoke. "I'll have to get the captain." He nodded towards another one who ran off in to the nearby guard house.
Is it going to be like this is every city we visit... Maybe I should start avoiding them from now on.
A few moments later a giant figure emerged from the guard house. He must have been the largest human I'd ever seen, over six and a half foot from my estimation. Usually people that tall stand slumped, but he stood upright and firm. His rough and lightly scarred face in contrast to his shiny polished armour. His hair was dark brown and his eyes green. Lightly greying sideburns would suggest he's reaching middle aged but not quite there yet. He was handsome, not pretty boy handsome, but muscular and rough handsome. To be honest, he's my type.
"Ma'am I'm going to have to ask you to remove the hood." Wait when did he reach us? His voice is so deep.
"uuh, sure." I was definitely flustered, I removed my hood quickly.
The guards around us widened their eyes or turned lightly red, but the captain stood stoic with his expression only showing a hint of surprise. "A Dryad huh? And a big one at that." He lifted his hand to his well groomed chin. "I was told we might expecting someone with your description..." He looked up at the wagon behind me. "Fits the profile, do you also happen to have a pet wolf?"
"uh yeah... A wolf, yeah." I commented absent minded.
"Um. Ma'am are you alright." The captain raised his eyebrow.
What? Oh, Oh! That's so embarrassing, come on snap out of it Ellena. "Yes. Uh yes, sorry. I've just never seen such a tall, uh human... before... Yep" Yep? WHY YEP?! That was a stupid excuse!
His expression returned to being stiff. "I see, for someone your size I guess it would be surprising. Anyway, I apologise for the interrogation ma'am. With the recent news we're looking for anyone that could be a spy, even if we're on the other side of the continent we can't rule it out." He commented.
Other side of the continent... "Has something happened with the empire?" I asked. I'll need to shove my teenage girls heart to the sidelines for the time being.
His eyes twitched. "You mean you haven't heard?" He gave a slow blink. "No, that makes sense. You've been on the road for around two weeks now. I'll tell you on the way, My Lord has been expecting you." He turned around, his cape flurrying from the swift movement revealing two large swords strapped to his back. "Follow me." He called.
"Wai- Wait your lord is expecting me, who is it?" I jogged to his side, Verros steered the wagon to follow behind us.
The captain spoke without turning his head. "You met him in the capital I believe, Lord Avalas, Osban Avalas. Luckily his trip to the capital coincided with yours."
Avalas... Oh! The old man who supports Monster rights... Come to think of it, I didn't really notice before because I was *ahem* distracted, but there's even more Monsters here than in the capital. "Yes, I remember Lord Avalas he seemed like a good man if a little..."
"Perverse?" The captain finished my sentence. "Yes, that's my lord." There was slight irritation in the mans voice.
I chuckled, I think that his nature has gotten him in to trouble before judging by this captains reaction. Oh, I almost forgot. "You mentioned the Empire and spies or something?" I asked.
"Oh, yes. I almost forgot." He stopped talking for a moment to let out a sigh. "For whatever reason, the Empire has taken one of the Dwarf cities, effectively declaring war on the Dwarven States..."
"WHAT? The Emperor should know what's coming by now, does he not care!?" I snapped.
The captain paused for a moment looking a bit surprised at my anger. My face turned red in embarrassment. "...Whilst I understand your anger, it is a fact the Emperor does as he wants. And it's not like he doesn't have the skill and resources to do so either. The reason we were checking for spies is because that's how he took the city. Dwarf spies loyal to the emperor that told him everything he needed to know and lowered the cities defences."
I thought for a moment. "But he's already attacking a human kingdom and advancing in to the Monster continent. Can he really afford to fight the Dwarves?"
The captain shook his head. "It's not just the Dwarves either. The Dwarves let Mountain Elves live in their lands, they're allies. The Emperor will have to deal with a whole lot of Elves too." He narrowed his eyes. "Honestly I think the man just got too arrogant on account of having two reincarnated humans under his command."
I scratched my head. "Either way, this isn't really the time to be fighting each other."
The large man sighed. "No, it really isn't."
We carried on walking until we reached a manor overlooking the bay, it wasn't huge, but it was quite fancy clearly belonging to someone wealthy. Judging by all of the half naked statues of women with large busts in the front garden, it was pretty easy to tell who the house belonged to.
"Ellena! My dear girl!" The old lord slowly walked out of the large double doors ahead of us. His eyes focusing on my chest.
"Come in and make yourself at home!" He said eyes still focused on that part of my body and mouth open drooling. I felt a vein grow in my head.
"I would prefer it if you looked me in the eye, My lord..." I forced the words out through grated teeth.
The lord reeled back in shock and dramatically fell to one knee. "Oh. But alas! I am just a humble man my dear Ellena, and I can not resist my heart!"
*Thump!*
A large fist found it's way on to the top of the smiling lords head. "I somehow manage to resist." I heard the captain mumble as he dragged his lord inside the manor. I exchanged glances with Verros blinking.
Verros shrugged his shoulders. "At least he's not trying to kill us?"
My shoulders slumped. "I can't argue with that..."
...
"Ahem! Now to start with introductions! You know me, you've met my guard captain Ballud Hawkwood, And this is my wife Alicia." Lord Avalas sat on the opposite side to us in a casual meeting room sporting a large grin. Sat next to him was his elderly wife giving us a gentle smile that made you think of a kindly grandmother. Behind him was Captain Hawkwood.
Hawkwood, huh... That's a nice last name. Avalas began talking "Now, Hawkwood will be joining us on our journey, but I'm afraid he won't be able to stay with you when we reach the Dead Isles as h-"
"Wait wait wait! What are you talking about? Journey, what journey?" I interrupted the old man.
His mouth gaped open wide and he blinked a few times. Then he slapped his leg. "Oh dang it! I got ahead of myself again didn't I!? You're going to the Dead Isles correct?" I nodded my head. "Well, I have business with the Demon Queen, and the Dead Isles is on the way to the Demon Continent. So I thought this would be a good arrangement. fufufu~" I noticed his eyes drifting towards my chest again near the end there.
"What's your business with the Demon Queen?" I asked.
"Ahh~ Well you see, the Queen wants me to secure an Alliance with them. They're going to promise to help out with Lavias, have no doubt. But the Queen wants to secure alliance against the Empire, just in case."
I crossed my arms. "What about the, uh captain? Surely with the Elves and the chance of spies you'd want your guard captain to stay here?" I asked.
Avalas chuckled. "I'm going to the Demons territory you know? We many be able to trust the Queen, but she's suffering rebels at the moment. I need my strongest man with me. Besides, he's leaving his best men in charge, there's. nothing. to. worry. about~" I forgot how chipper he was...
"Well not that I'm against travelling with the captain..." I muttered under my breath.
"What was that?" Alavas raised his hand to his ear with a mischievous grin on his face.
My face turned red, he definitely heard me! "Nothing." I muttered again.
After a glare from captain Ballud the Old Lord gave a nervous laugh. "Anyway, the ships been prepared since I got back from the capital four days ago. We just need to get the crew together, then we can leave first thing tomorrow morning." He clapped his hands. "Until then, enjoy your stay here, we've already had our dinner, but you're more than welcome to the kitchen staff tonight." With a beaming smile the old man wished us goodnight and retired to his bedroom with his wife, who must have incredible tolerance. Ballud showed us to the rooms we'd be staying in.
Verros and I already had our fill of food for the day. We ate whilst waiting in the que, if only to pass the time. The rooms we were giving were fancy, but they were a lot more reasonable than the palaces. I'm not too fond of rooms that large, it feels like wasted space.
"They never asked my name..." Verros commented seeming a bit down.
I crossed my arms smirking. "That's probably because you didn't say anything. You just sat there in complete silence."
He looked up at me. "I uh, I didn't really need to add anything though." He smiled.
I shrugged my shoulders. "Then don't look so down about it." I let out a long yawn, after all the waiting around it was already time for a good sleep. "I'll see you tomorrow morning. Ever been on a ship before?"
He shook his head. "Nope, first time."
I smiled back at him. "Same here, I'm looking forward to it." I waved him goodnight and disappeared in to my room.
Tomorrow I would begin the next leg of my journey, not just that, I'll be one step closer to home. I fell asleep with a smile on my face, the comfortable bed helped.

Author note: So what did you think? I enjoyed writing the last day of this chapter. :P I tried to add a little humour, I hope you enjoyed it.
Also, I am currently making my patreon page. I won't activate it until I have permission from RRL to get donations and advertise my page on here, so It won't be for a few weeks at least yet.
However I'm kind of stuck on the rewards part of it. I have a few idea, but I don't think they're very good so I want to ask you guys what you think good rewards would be, what would make you want to become a patron?
I would also like to make it clear that if you give me an idea I'm not expecting you to become a patron, I'm not expecting anyone to, but it would be nice, I do want to write for a living, so patreon is a good first step.
Even if I just get one or two, it would be incredible to me. :D
Also, some pretty cool news, at least to me Daily Diary is on page three of best rated! #123 I believe. Thank you guys so much, I'm sure it will change as I get more exposure and people who just don't like it will rate it badly, but to me to even be on page three is incredible!
So thanks. :)
