Stranded

He heard a howl in the pitch black darkness, followed by another, then yet another, and then a chorus of howls in the distance. Evidently, there were creatures still awake at this time - an entire pack of them. He had the feeling they weren't going to be friendlies.

He searched frantically in his pockets for a source of light. Unfortunately, he had not planned for night time adventuring, so he hadn't brought a flashlight. He took out his navigation device - it still had an hour's worth of battery life left. The glow from the display screen would provide some illumination. It was better than nothing.

He walked over to the mobile, brought the gingerbread device very close to the body of the vehicle, and examined it inch by inch. It was no use - the engine seemed to be damaged beyond repair. A new one would need to be moulded to replace it, and he didn't know of any bakeries nearby.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

Nearby... where was he, really? He checked the map on his device. A blinking cursor showed him located somewhere inside a forest covering a very vast area. He had meant to head east of here, in the direction of Cupcakeland, before the accident had put him in his current situation. Fortunately, he was only a few klicks west of the nearest edge of the forest, and there was a small village there. He figured that if he covered the distance on foot, he could reach the village and seek help. He broke off a chunk of the chocolate from his broken-down mobile, chomped on a bit of it for sustenance, and started heading east.

He heard the howls again, coming from the west. This time, they sounded louder, and closer.

Something wanted to chomp on the chomp...
