Is there hope?

"It's hopeless", one of the chomps cried out in tones of utter dejection.

"That giant cake has been terrorizing us ever since it came out of the ovens! It has sent every single occupant of the village running for the woods."

"A few of us tried to fight back," said a young chomp.

"But the cake was just too big. A tiny chomp is no match for a giant multi-layered bakery product."

"It... It... crushed my little chomp to into a jiggly pudding!" Shouted a distraught chomp-mother, breaking into tears.

The protagonist picked up a thin and frail looking stick lying on the forest floor. It had broken off from the branches of one of the chocolate trees, and so was also made of dark chocolate.

The first few rays of the dawn sun were beginning to break through the forest canopy.

"See this stick?"

"Yeah?" Chorused the crowd.

He beckoned a little boy chomp to come closer, and gave it to him.

"Try breaking it in half."

The chomp broke it into two pieces with ease, and chomped up both halves greedily.

"Easy right?" Asked the protagonist.

He then picked up around a dozen of the sticks, and turned towards the bride-to-be.

"Ribbon please."

Using the ribbon to tie the sticks into a bundle, he handed it over to the kiddie chomp.

"Now try breaking that in half", he said.

Try as hard as he might, the boy chomp could not break the bunch of sticks in half. The protagonist then untied the bundle and handed a stick each to the members of the gathering.

Every villager broke their stick in half effortlessly, and chomped on it faster than one could say "chomp".

"What we need, lady-chomps and gentle-chomps, is a team effort."

"Huddle up! I have a plan."
