Mochi Rave

The cool room was cool, and in more ways than the chomp had expected. It did not seem to be lit by any conventional light source, but there was still a faint neon glow everywhere. There were towers of shelves running from end to end, creating narrow aisles like the ones seen in libraries. There were no books on these shelves though, only ice-cream mochi. And what a variety of mochi there were!

They were in every possible color that the chomp could think of, although almost all of them were roughly spherical. Some of them were pretty large, about the size of a soccer ball, while others were even smaller than Mo.

This was the cool part - almost all of them were shaking and moving around slightly to the sound of drum-beats in the neon light. The ice-cream mochi were having what appeared to be a rave party.

Mo, who up till now, had been irritable and impatient, was also grooving to the beats.

"Take me to the top shelf!" Mo squeaked.

"The top shelf? Which one? There are so many rows!"

"Just pick one and climb to the top. It doesn't matter. You'll see."

So the chomp picked a middle row and used the edge of the shelves as footholds and handholds to get to the topmost tier.

"Hey! Watch where you're going chump!" A random purple mochi that was shaking with a lot of gusto squeaked at him.

When the chomp reached the top, he understood where the sound and light was coming from. Lining the perimeter of each "rooftop" in the room were several neon green mochi that seemed to emit a bioluminescence of their own, kind of like fireflies. The chomp wondered what they'd taste like.

But the real attention grabber was the center.
