[Arthur Leywin POV]
We were in the field behind the Helstea manor, the same field where my brother had had a little battle with our father, now it was time to demonstrate to the Director of Xyrus Academy what we were capable of. I was thinking of just testing my earth and wind attacks, watching her tuck her wand into her cloak.
"You're not going to use your wand?" I said while stretching.
"It isn't very fair to me to be using a weapon when you two are children without anything in your hands." She gave us a wink.
Yes, she has a point in this.
"Actually... it's better you keep your wand with you..." Luz said while he was making two elemental balls in his hands, Fire and wind.
No... He isn't going to say it...
"We were trained by an Elf Elder that said to me he knows you. So I think that we need to show you how were our training times..." Luz smiled like a crazy guy that I know he is in a battle.
Okay, he said it... and she HAD a point on don't using her wand, now she hasn't.
Cynthia's eyes widened with that new information, while she took again her wand. "Was this the surprise Vincent wanted me to know?"
I sighed. "... They don't even know about it... Well, if that's the way it is. Let's do our best..."
With my hands still in my pants pockets, I stomped the ground hard, causing a rock to jump out of there in front of me, I kicked it. The rock was flying towards the Director, but she managed to dodge it, her gaze stopped being surprised and she started to analyze us.
I kept stepping on the ground with force, making several stones appear for me to kick, in one of the kicks, Luz jumped on top of the rock and used it to get closer to our opponent. Cynthia soon seemed to use her wand to summon several mini tornadoes in the size of small trees, which served as walls, each tornado falling apart when a rock hit it, including the one my brother was on top of.
Before Luz hit one of those mini tornadoes head-on, he jumped again, his legs loaded with wind mana and that black smoke of his, which would have become something of a habit for me to see by now. When he was at the top, he released a gust of wind through his legs, spreading that smoke, preventing Cynthia from seeing straight. But that didn't stop her from giving him a surprise attack, with blades of wind almost hitting him, causing my brother to step back and analyze her better.
We were now looking at that dark immensity of smoke, from which countless blades of wind appeared, trying to attack us. Luz dodged these attacks with his body starting to augment himself with red lightning, while I defended myself, stomping hard on the ground again, creating earth walls. I still saw no reason to take my hands out of my pockets.
As soon as she saw it, she darted up into the air, while at the same time blowing that smoke out of our little arena using a wind spell. She looked like she was going to launch an attack, but she was interrupted by a noise, even I was interrupted by the same noise. I looked to the side and saw Luz doing that, apparently he used Sound Magic to amplify the lightning noise he made when it hit the ground, being a great thunder that stunned those who weren't prepared.
As she and I were both affected, he soon made his next move, creating a 1 meter diameter sphere of fire, with the help of wind mana to amplify it and launch it towards Cynthia, who was able to defend herself using a wind barrier, but I could tell, it had been a close call.
Cynthia went down with everything, with her hands towards me, she again threw several tornadoes on top of us. I was already tired of using only earth mana, so I made the wind mana from those tornadoes disguise themselves and go directly into my hands. With that, I threw all that concentrated wind mana towards her, in the form of several small spheres. Luz assisted me, getting under my wind attack and putting the fire element into it.
Goodsky swung her wand quickly, creating a tornado with her in the center of it, thus defending herself from the fire. We could hear her laughing a lot and when the tornado disappeared, she had her hands up.
"Very good! You two are really amazing, two augmenters who already know the concept of casting spells like a conjurer, and on top of that both having two elements, one of wind and fire and the other of wind and earth. Impressive the way you combined these attacks in the end. If you were really trained by that grumpy old man, I can see that my speed wasn't to your liking." She said, giving a few more laughs, as if she hadn't been surprised like this in a while.
Before we could say anything else, I could hear Vincent's gasp of surprise. "Arthur! Do you also control wind and earth?!"
"What do you mean,'also'?" Cynthia looked at them, a little confused by that.
"Yesterday he showed us he was a fire mage with lightning deviant!" Tabitha spoke still in shock at our little demonstration.
"S-surely you jest... Arthur, Luz... let me get this straight... You're a tri-elemental of fire, earth and wind, with deviant in lightning... and you're a duo-elemental of fire and wind, with lightning and sound deviant...?" Cynthia asked this, watching us closely for our answer.
"You are correct about me." Luz said as he scratched his shoulder.
"You almost got it right, I'm actually a Quadra-Elemental, and I'm a lightning and ice deviant." I said, scratching the back of my neck, with a slightly embarrassed smile.
"Q-Quadra-Elemental!?!" All the adults said it in unison, and that included my parents.
Cynthia approached us and looked specifically at me. "Arthur, we haven't heard of a Tri-elemental for many years. And you're saying it's something bigger than that, being able to access the four elements?"
I nodded in agreement, to prove it I made a sphere of water with my hands and then froze it in the shape of a cube. She looked impressed at me, but then I told her. "Well... I started training lightning and ice spells very recently, and I'm better at using fire and water. So yeah..."
"And I'm also a 'beginner' in lightning magic, as we were with the elves, training sound magic was the most done thing." Luz entered the middle of the conversation.
I felt him a little jealous for being thrown aside, as I had four elements and he only had two. Although there were also elements that he accessed with his first phase, but as this was not shown and it's a secret, he still felt a little out of it.
"Sorry for hiding this from you guys." I said, turning to my parents. I was a bit worried that my parents might be angry for keeping this from them, but fortunately, my father took it pretty well.
"One of my sons... is the first ever quadra-elemental!!" He scooped me up by my armprits and swung me around like he did when I was a infant, making me remember that traumatic memory.
"Please Art, no more secrets. And you too, Luz." My mother just wryly smiled, concern still etched on her face. We couldn't promise her that, but I'd like to believe it was for her protection, not for our convenience.
"Are bruhders strong?" My sister chimed in, still clutching onto Sylvie.
Patting her head, the Director nodded. "Your brothers have the ability to become very strong, little one."
Vincent's face was still a picture of disbelief as he still was in the middle of processing everything. As Lilia made sure her father was alright, she took a quick glance towards our direction with a mixture of astonishment and a little fear on her face. I didn't blame her.
My father set me down and I turned to Director Cynthia, giving her a stern gaze, a gaze that I knew didn't fit an eight-year-old. "Director Goodsky. There's a real reason we didn't hide our abilities today. Besides of course the fact that our mentor know you."
Picking up on the seriousness in my voice, she nodded in understanding. "I had a hunch that you weren't just brazenly showing off your skills, kids. You, Arthur, seemed too sharp for that."
Luz knew what to do, he created a sound barrier around us three, so I could speak without being disturbed. The director looked impressed at him, thinking that he only knew how to extend the sound and not cancel it.
Agreeing with her, I responded, "There are only a few benefits we can gain from attending your school. One is learning how to utilize my Lightning and Ice elements. However, that is something I can learn on my own with due time and my brother's help... Since he is more theorical than me."
This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
Luz continued, "The main reason we would attend your academy, if we chose to at all, is for protection. Right now, we aren't strong enough to protect everyone. However, you hold a position of power and influence that can provide safety for our family, at least until we can gain the strenght to protect them ourselves."
"But and your connection with Virion?" She said while looking at Luz about that.
"Yes, the connection we have with the Eralith family is a good one. But still, they are elves, for now, the protection they can give to us isn't a good one that affect inside Sapin." My brother replied.
"Hmm... I see now, that's true. Arthur, Luz, I believe both of you hold the ability to make changes in this world. For that, if you're willing to atend Xyrus Academy and become rightful citizens that will do anything to protect this land, then I'll abide by any criteria you set." Director Goodsky's voice was clear and determined.
"Very well, We'll learn what we feel is valuable from classes your school offers and train our own powers. As long as you give us the tools and freedom to do so, as well as keep our loved ones safe, then we will consider you as an important benefactor." I promised.
"Hmm... thinking about it now, I think Virion asked me to mentor his granddaughter. Do you know her?" Cynthia said with a soft smile.
"Tessia? Of course, we interacted a lot in the castle... I also think she would love to see us another moment." Luz said with a similar smile.
"Great, one of the tools I can give you at my school, could be the access to the training room I'm reserving for her, so the three of you can train together. Do you agree?" She said and before I could answer Luz covered my mouth and nodded.
So Luz took his hand away from my mouth and deactivated the sound barrier. We could hear everyone confused as they saw our interaction but didn't listen to our voices. Clarifying for everyone who couldn't hear, I said aloud "I will abide by our agreement when I enroll in your academy."
"Wait a minute. Were you not planning on enrolling into my Academy anytime soon?" The Director as well as every other adult had looks of puzzlement on their faces.
"We don't plan on entering Xyrus Academy until we would be of a normal age to actually attend. No. We've decided to enter your academy on my twelfth birthday, a very average age for one to enter you Academy. I assume that will not be a problem?" I tilted my head.
"Goodness! That's in a little over three years. Do you have any plans on what to do until then?" I figured Director Goodsky wouldn't be so accepting on prolonging our education for over three years.
We turned to face our parents again, since it was up to them to allow us or not. While I looked up at the night sky, stars shining, I could hear my brother's voice. "Since Vincent said that we could easily be stronger than a B rank adventurer. Mhmmm.... How about we become adventures?"
----------------------------------------
After our announcement, Director Goodsky had left the manor. I could tell she still wanted to ask us a lot of questions, but we excused ourselves to have a family talk. We were currently inside our parent'sroom with mother standing up in front in front of us, forbidding us to even think about doing anything remotely dangerous.
"No! Absolutely no way! Arthur and Luz Leywin! Do you know how dangerous it is to become an Adventurer? You've just gotten back after we all thought you were dead and now you're saying you want to go get yourselves killed out there???? No way! Absolutely not!" Our mother was on the verge of tears while she said this. She had never been good at controlling her emotions.
Eleanor was besides her, clutching onto her leg. "Mama, don't be angry. Bruhders not bad persons! Uuu... Mama, don't cry."
Father was a bit more rational. I could tell he didn't like the idea as well, but he couldn't really see any reason for us not to be adventurers besides our age. We weren't going to debate with our mother. She was saying all of this because she was worried and we could never blame her for that. After being silent the whole time, our father finally spoke up.
"Honey, let's hear what they out at least. I'm not saying I agree to them becoming adventures but don't you think we should at least listen to what they have to say?"
"How can you still say that after what happened that day!" Mother yelled, breaking down into a fit of sobs.
Luz and I looked to our father for answers, curious about what she was talking about, but he simply shook his head and comforted our mother. It seemed like a good hour before she had calmed down enough for us to speak again.
Luz grabbed mother's right hand and I grabbed her left. "Mom... We weren't planning on leaving tomorrow. We were looking forward to spending a few months at home with you guys." Luz said, with his other hand patting our mother right shoulder.
She was still silent, but her face softened a little at that and I just gave her a warm smile, Sylvie followed suit and began licking her hand that I was grabbing.
"What we meant by becoming adventures was so that we can get some experience. After being in the Elf Kingdom for three years, we missed a lot about what we should know about this world of ours. We just thought this would be the best way to gain some pratical experience." I urged, not letting go of mother's hand.
"I understand where you're coming from. Although I was a bit older, I was also itching to get some real life experience in fightning as soon as I awakened as a mage." My father reminisced. "But your mother is also right in that it's dangerous, and unpredictable." Mother nodded her head vigorously at this.
"Dad. Mom. What if we were to have some sort of guard or supervisor with us? Would that make you feel a bit more at ease with this whole idea?" Luz said looking to our parents.
"...Hmm... You know, that's not a bad idea." We could almost see the gears in our father's head wind as he began thinking of potential candidates.
"B-but... I still won't be able to see you for three years!" My mother began to protest again.
"Mom, we weren't planning on doing very far quests or traveling far. We'll always try to come every few months, maybe even more often, depending on how many missions we do." Luz said giving my mother a kiss on the forehead to try to calm her down again.
"Bruders, are you leaving?" Ellie had an expression as if she had just been told that Santa Claus didn't exist.
We started to panic together after seeing her face like this. "NoNo! Ellie we're staying here. You'll be seeing us a lot from now on, okay?"
Apparently, both Mother and Father had told Eleanor a lot of stories about us and how strong and smart we were. One of Ellie's favorite bedtime stories was how I saved Mother from a bunch of bad guys on top of a cliff while Luz tried to save me and the other members of Twin Horns, and that we got hurt so it would take us some time to come back home. Eventually, we had become some sort of heroes to our sister.
I look back at my mother. Her face was considerably more at ease after talking about this. I guess she had just assumed the worst-case scenario and thought we wanted to slay the world's strongest evil at the age of eight or something.
"Why did you want to be an Adventurer before even going to school anyways? Wasn't it usually the opposite?" my mother softly muttered.
"Dad's reason was a part of it; I think that testing our skills out in real life situations would be the better. Also, Mom, It would be so strange to us to began school at our actual age, I don't think we would be able to make much friends with such a big age difference." Luz said, patting our mother head.
It was a very pitiful excuse, but, for once, Mother gave us a look of understanding. I guess it was a mother's worst nightmare for her child to become a loner. Good work, brother... You always know what to say... and this is also a thing that make me afraid of you sometimes.
Either way... it wasn't a complete lie because for what I know about him, he said it thinking of Sylvia's dying wish that she gave for me. She had wanted me to enjoy life and have a life not just of training. This was a promise that I planned on keeping no matter what.
"Besides, we're going to be here for a couple months anyway. Who know, maybe you'll get sick of me by then and throw me out before I even get the chance to leave." I winked at my mother
That earned me a thump on the head but she chuckled as well "You! You're just like your father at times like these. Thank God you at least have my intelligence and your brother puts sense sometimes in your head." She gave me a big hug.
"Hey! What about my inteligence? He was gifted with my adept abilities in fire too!" My father protested.
"Hmph! My son got his deviant powers from me." Mother just turned me away from Father and just stuck her tongue out at him.
"Ellie too! Bleh!" My sister copied my mother and stuck her tongue out at my devastated father.
"Sniff! No ones on my side." He just playfully cried, while hugging Luz.
"Yeah, I'm on your side, Old man." When my brother said this we started to laugh.
The next day was a Sunday, leaving Father with the day off. Both the Leywin and Helstea families were dining together for breakfast.
"So did you guys settle on what to do about they two?" Vincent asked, alf chewing on his omelet.
Tabitha shook her head,"I swear. Sometimes, I have shuch a hard time believing you're a noble with your horrible dining habits, dear."
"Kukuku, don't worry. At least your husband's better than mine. Remember that one dinner party where Rey spit out his food from laughing so hard? I had to use Ellie as an excuse to leave the table because I was so embarrassed." Mother just sighed, this information made Luz and Lilia laugh a lot.
"Anyway! Yes, after talking about it yesterday night, we agreed to let them become adventyres under some conditions, Vince." Father just lightly blushed as he tried to swith back the topic.
"Oh? What conditions?" asked the curious Tabitha as she was cutting the omelet into smaller pieces for Lilia.
"They aren't going to become adventures until after Arthur's birthday, which is in three months. We also decided on having a guard with them on their missions. Of course, the last condition is that they'll be visiting as often as possible." He replied, working on the rest of his roast beef.
"Do you have anyone in mind for who their guard is going to be? Heck, is there even a guard that is capable of guarding them? I feel like Arthur and Luz would be the ones protecting the guard!" Vincent just chuckled at the ridiculousness of children protecting a grown, veteran adventurer.
Luz answered that question, interfering with the conversation. "I came up with the idea that it could be a member of the Twin Horns, Jasmine, as she has a element that we both have access to, is very responsible and knows blade techniques, which would be great for Arthur who already has a habit of using them and for me because I want to learn more strategies." After this, he went back to eating his piece of bacon.
"Yeah, but unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to send a letter to them yet, about my sons being back. I was planning on doing that today." Our father scrathed his head.
"Wait, isn't better to not show your abilities before enrolling into Xyrus Academy? How you plan on doing that while you're Adventures?" Vincent said calling us.
"For what I know, we can keeping our identity hidden as Adventurers, we just need aliases, masks and some cloak that could cover the rest of our bodies." Luz said again, finishing his breakfast.
"Mmm... I see." Both Vincent and Tabitha nodded at this.
With that, breakfast ended and we all separated.
