The two of them arrived in front of the dilapidated mansion in the courtyard. Lin Shiqi led Qin Yan inside and took him to a secluded corner of the house. She grabbed something on the floor of the small room and pulled, revealing a large hole in the floorboards. The hole revealed a dark staircase descending downwards.
"Why all this mystery? Where are you taking me?" Qin Yan stood at the edge of the hole, pondering whether he should follow Lin Shiqi down further, as the room and the hole seemed very suspicious.
"Don't be nervous, I won't harm you. If you're scared, just hold onto me and make me your hostage. Would that make you feel better?" Lin Shiqi joked, passing through the large hole in the floor and descending the stairs.
After hesitating for a moment, Qin Yan eventually followed her. The underground staircase wasn't very deep, and they quickly reached the bottom. Many hanging lamps illuminated the surrounding walls, and at one end of the space, there was a deep tunnel that seemed to have no end.
The two walked through the dark tunnel.
"What kind of person are you, and why do you use those strange spells?" As they walked through the seemingly long tunnel, Qin Yan brought up the question he had asked before.
"This is a bit of a long story, but since we have a long way to go, I'll explain it to you... Actually, we humans originally possessed these abilities," Lin Shiqi began.
"What do you mean?"
"How should I explain this to you?" After thinking for a moment, Lin Shiqi continued, "You should know about the significant weakening of the Earth's magnetic field, right?"
"Of course, that's common knowledge now, isn't it?"
"Well, humans and some other creatures on Earth originally had the ability to use superpowers, but due to the strong magnetic field of the Earth, these abilities were sealed off, preventing them from being used. About forty years ago, when the Earth's magnetic field was still strong, humans couldn't use superpowers. Now, with the significant weakening of the Earth's magnetic field, the restrictions on these abilities have been greatly reduced, allowing people to use superpowers."
"Really? Is that true?" Qin Yan was shocked to hear this fascinating information for the first time. "If what you're saying is true, why can't the other people around me use superpowers?"
"That's because humans have evolved over thousands of years in an environment with a strong magnetic field. As a result, they gradually discarded these abilities that were completely useless to them and evolved into modern humans who cannot use any superpowers. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
"I can understand the gist of it." Qin Yan had studied evolution and knew that organs of a living being would develop if frequently used and degenerate if not used regularly.
Lin Shiqi continued, "Although modern humans have lost the ability to use these superpowers, we can use other methods to reawaken these lost abilities and enable us to use superpowers again."
Upon hearing this, Qin Yan's mind raced, "Could it be through bio-modification of the human body, turning people into bio-modified individuals?"
"Exactly, but we usually refer to them as superhumans, not some bio-modified individuals," Lin Shiqi said, looking at Qin Yan with a puzzled expression. "Aren't you also a superhuman? How come you know nothing about this, and where did your superpowers come from? Can you tell me now?"

After hearing so much useful information, Qin Yan felt it was time to reveal his own story. He told Lin Shiqi about encountering a homeless man, obtaining the black jade stone from him, the stone glowing at night, and his physical abilities greatly increasing.
After listening to Qin Yan's words, Lin Shiqi felt incredulous. She widened her eyes in surprise, "Is it true? You can awaken your superpowers just through radiation? And your superpowers can be fully controlled in less than a day? That's unbelievable. Usually, it takes several years or even longer to master superpowers."
"I don't know about all that, but ten years ago, I had a severe illness. I don't know if it's related to this," Qin Yan said.
"A severe illness? What kind of illness?" Lin Shiqi quickly turned to Qin Yan, focusing intently on his words. Her intuition told her that Qin Yan's superpowers were likely related to that severe illness.
Qin Yan, however, decided not to continue. The experience from ten years ago had caused him great trauma, and although his body had healed, the emotional wounds were still present. He didn't want to bring it up and said, with a gloomy expression, "It's nothing, just something I made up."
"Alright," Lin Shiqi keenly sensed that Qin Yan had something on his mind. Seeing his mood, she didn't press him to continue.
The tunnel was long, and it took them nearly twenty minutes to walk through it. At the end of the tunnel was another staircase leading upwards. After climbing the stairs, they entered another small room. Leaving the room, they found themselves in an open area that resembled a mountainous region. Surrounding them were continuous mountain ranges, indicating that they were no longer in the city but in a suburban area that looked like a mountainous region.
"Where is this?" Qin Yan surveyed the surroundings, noticing several buildings and structures in the open area that resembled a college campus. It seemed like a place where people lived.
"This is an institute called the Far Mountain Institute of Biotechnology Research, but we don't call it that. We usually refer to this place as the Institute of Superhumans."
"The Institute of Superhumans? Are the people here all superhumans?" Qin Yan looked around and felt that the layout of the buildings resembled a college campus.
"You could say that. The purpose of this institute is to study how to awaken human superpowers, learn about superpowers, and enable individuals to freely control their superpowers. Of course, everything here is kept confidential."
Suddenly, Qin Yan remembered what his school friend Wei Zheng had told him. Wei had mentioned that there were some secret organizations outside researching biotechnology to modify humans, enabling them to acquire extraordinary abilities. These organizations were often ruthless and would stop at nothing to achieve their goals. Wei had warned him not to get involved with these organizations, as it could be dangerous.
With this in mind, Qin Yan's heart raced. He wondered if he had been deceived by the girl named Lin Shiqi. Perhaps Lin Shiqi had brought him here just to study the superpowers he possessed. They might dissect him to study his body's internal organs and even remove his organs to transplant them into others.
The more Qin Yan thought about it, the more frightened he became. Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks and grabbed Lin Shiqi's wrist tightly.
"Why are you acting so nervous? Why are you holding onto me so tightly? It hurts!" Lin Shiqi struggled for a moment but couldn't break free, so she had to speak up and question Qin Yan.
Qin Yan stared at Lin Shiqi's face and said sternly, "I'm asking you,Is this 'chool of psychic powers' some kind of evil organization,Engaging in activities that cannot be seen by others, even if it means causing someone's death, doesn't matter to you?"
Upon hearing this, Lin Shiqi was first stunned, then she realized that Qin Yan was treating himself as an irredeemable villain. She glared at Qin Yan and shouted, "Don't you accuse me recklessly,We're not some evil organization, won't harm others, so what I do is not something shameful!"
"Then why does your academy hide and conceal itself in this remote mountainous area, keeping all these matters hidden and not disclosing them to the outside world?"
"Because, because..." Lin Shiqi thought for a while, and then said uncertainly, "It's because... the existence of espers and superpowers will have a significant impact on the outside world, so that's why we keep it confidential."
"That reason seems a bit far-fetched, doesn't it?" Qin Yan saw that Lin Shiqi was speaking without confidence at all, so he didn't believe her words.
