New Revelation

Callan finished the report on his clipboard, hoping that he can rest again, this time for longer.

The team was approaching the city, with the glint of bright light visible in the distance.

The I operatives were still busy, browsing and tinkering with their interfaces while on the move.

S operatives continued walking, showing barely any sign of fatigue just like before.

“Man, I hope I can become a specialist already. I might as well be running on energy drinks right now.” Clara remarked. Seeing Callan’s clipboard, her eyes widened and immediately took her own clipboard out, realizing the report they needed to do.

The march back was only quiet, it was clear that everyone just wanted to return, return to the comfort of the city and with an accomplished mission.

Callan looked at the nets of the E operatives, knowing that some of the operatives they once fought with were now part of the dead.

He felt a deep pit in his stomach just by looking at it.

‘If only I tried to save them.’ While stuck in thought, he remembered that H operative who charged into the mutants. Assuming he was part of the bodies in the nets.

The light of the city grew as they approached closer to it, already sensing its warmth and comfort.

On the way though, Enzo brought out a tablet, his face quickly turned concerned.

“Connection was reestablished…Something is wrong…” He grimly said.

“What could it be, sir?” One of the I operatives spoke up, with a line of interfaces following him.

“It seems to be a notification from I division. The leader will meet with us again in the anchor fort. Quicken your pace team.” Everyone started to run through the rain, hearing what Enzo just said.

Callan felt curious but irritated at the same time.

‘What is it now?’ He thought to himself. ‘There really is no rest in the divisions…’

In minutes, the team finally reached into the city’s light, finally out of the murky ground. They shook their boots while the L operatives finally stopped giving light, visibly more tired than the others, needing H operatives for support in walking.

They walked on, Callan continued thinking of what could possibly happen, frustrated he may need to do another mission but curious as to what the leader of I division wanted this time.

Callan could see the silhouette of the woman in the distance, standing next to the fort. But this time she was alone.

As they approached closer, Callan realized her appearance had fully changed.

Her coat looked torn with distinct splotches of blood coating it and the vest beneath. Her sword dripped with red. On her hand was the same revolver, its barrel was smoking.

And her face was fully covered by a helmet, a blue visor at the front allowed her to see, although displaying a few cracks. On it were numbers and other images flowing around.

"The mutants you have sent are not dead!" She yelled in an irritated tone. Enzo was taken aback by the outburst.

"What do you mean leader Irene? All the mutants were confirmed dead. And they had not moved a bit during transport." Enzo replied. The woman stepped closer to him, gripping her revolver tightly.

"It seems your assumptions were incorrect. As the abominations awoke during examination!" Everyone was surprised by the woman's words.

"Wait, it just revived?" Clara asked, just as confused.

"Seems so, but wonder why?" Oliver replied.

"Currently the main laboratory is sealed off due to those things wreaking havoc. We lost many I operatives during it. The rest of the strike forces are currently on mission, and the threat of these mutants far exceeds a common operative. We need your team to provide aid." She finished speaking.

"That's…Impossible…" Enzo murmured.

"I may raise this concern later on, but for now we must deal with the threat. Oddly though the mutants seemed to have lost their armor before awakening." She added.

"Wait…" Enzo turned to look at the nets of the E operatives.

After a few seconds, the nets began to move violently, as if something was trying to get out. The E operatives all dropped their nets, moving away from what was inside. Callan raised his sword, preparing himself for another fight.

Bursting out, the mutants of earlier roared loudly, covered in the many slash wounds from the battle.

"These things…" The I leader walked forward, raising her revolver at the mutant's heads. And with a pull of the trigger, the heads and bodies of the mutants blew up, sending flesh and blood around them, quickly taking out the threats.

"It seems these unique mutants either have the ability to revive after death, or could fake being killed." She spoke.

Enzo turned back to the unit.

"Hannah, bring your team. As for the rest of you, start heading back."

"Ryker, Collin. You and your team stay here until I return. I still want those corpses." Irene ordered, her eyes staring straight towards the I operatives.

With nothing left to say, Callan found himself part of another mission. This time one in the confines of the tower.

Callan and the others ran behind Irene, noticing as she began browsing through an interface before it quickly vanished.

"This will prove to lower our effectiveness as a division. And as the information collectors for the military." She remarked.

"I deeply apologize for this leader Irene."

"No need, I'll simply file an investigation afterwards and see if there are grounds for a complaint to be raised in the next leadership meeting."

After running for a few minutes, the team reached the gate of I division.

It creaked open, revealing a dimmed room with a purple alarm light blaring above. Computers decorated the walls, showing all sorts of diagrams and texts.

The team quickly entered inside, admiring the place.

"This gate looks so nice…So full of technology, and rather clean as well…" Oliver muttered.

"There is little to admire. It is simply just like the other towers." The mysterious woman spoke up, overhearing Oliver's comment.

The elevator doors opened, allowing the team inside. Callan felt nervous, being in the tower of an entirely new division. And possibly fighting in such a place.
