Hannah walked inside the room, carrying a folder in her hand. She looked amused, as if she was told she can have a day of rest.
“Well, the operation we went on was the only major operation for the L division, so they’re transferring our team to a more active division.” She announced, opening the folder to read what it contained.
The team all sighed in relief and enjoyment, seemingly eager to take on more missions.
“What division are we going to now, Ms?” Marco asked, everyone looked at her, awaiting her answer.
Hannah slowly looked through the papers in the folder before responding.
“Says here S division, and it seems they want more arbitrators and administrators for a special long term operation.” She finally responded. Out of everyone in the group, Clara and Marco seemed to be the most happy with the news.
“We should get going now, they’re expecting us in their tower.” The team immediately stood up and made their way out. Callan walked behind the team, curious with what else these divisions had.
Back down on the main floor, they headed for the train station of the tower, passing through the massive crowd of cloaked operatives.
A few trains were present, some preparing to leave while others just arrived. Callan looked around at the place, quickly noticing that the station was brighter and even bigger than the A division station. Above them all was a platform for operatives to walk on.
“The trains should be bound for other towers at this time.” Above the station was a large screen, displaying the trains present in the station and their destinations. Hannah glanced at it, quickly finding the one they needed to board.
“Guess the next train bound for S division is on the other side. Let’s go.” They walked up the stairs and onto the platform, making their way to the other side of the station.
Callan saw trains start departing the tower, disappearing in seconds. But beyond the station, he could see the city below. From derelict homes, small restaurants, stores, and the entrances of mines.
‘Just like the district, before it all went to hell…’ He thought to himself, remembering a memory from his past.
The team reached the other end of the station, a train awaited them with sparse passengers inside, and more simply standing around outside it. With haste, they quickly got inside, sitting down and preparing for the trip.
Callan sat near Oliver and Clara, with Hannah and the others just sitting across from him.
After a minute of waiting, the doors shut, and the train began its move.
On the way, Callan started to think about what Hannah had said, terms he didn’t understand.
“What’s a long term operation?” He muttered to himself.
“Just a fancy way of saying we're gonna be working with them for awhile.” Clara responded, understanding Callan’s mumbling and surprising him.
“Do you know what the S division has?” He asked, hoping to get some answers from Clara so he won’t be all over the place by the time they arrive.
“Well, its a division known for going far from the city..” She paused, “They are known for their speed. They’re actually the division I want to receive power from once I become a specialist.” She finished.
“Receive power?” He asked confused, Clara looked at him, shocked.
“Hannah never told you? Well, A division isn’t talked about much in training anyway.” Before she continued, Oliver started to explain.
“You basically just get the magic that a division you chose holds. Could be anything really. Like the light of the L division.” He explained in a smooth and quick manner, as if he memorized the exact sentence over and over.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
“Yeah, what he said.” Clara looked at Oliver with an annoyed face, having stolen her thunder for that moment.
After waiting for a few minutes, the train came to a slow halt. The doors opened to the new tower they were bound for.
Everyone instantly stood up and left the train, immediately they were greeted with operatives in different uniforms.
Operatives donning light kevlar vests walked around in a hasty manner, with a long decorated cape on their back, and a few wore a cloth mask on their mouth.
“They have such nice outfits…” Clara looked at the operatives in awe.
“I mean, ours looks rather dapper as well.” Oliver responded, but Clara ignored him.
As they went inside, they were greeted to the sound of rapid footsteps as a hundred or more operatives walked around the place, like a fast flowing river.
Callan noticed that there were more stairs, rooms, and hallways inside the place, all filled with operatives.
“The room should be somewhere here. The message said that they are a floor above the main room…” After reading the last word out, she looked at the many stairs situated in the main area. Becoming confused.
‘Wonder how anyone can even navigate this place…’ Callan thought to himself, just as confused as Hannah.
“I believe it is just ahead.” The team started moving, quickly entering the sea of operatives, capes fluttered all around the team as more operatives walked around, heading to different places in the tower.
Leaving the main area, the team entered into a hallway, with lesser operatives wandering around.
A few screens hung on top, displaying different operations going on.
“They said that this division has far more operatives than others.” Clara spoke, still admiring the place they were in.
Soon, the team reached a metal door while walking down the hall. In a second, the door opened, leading into a briefing room similar in appearance to the one in L division.
Inside, other operatives were already waiting for them, turning their heads to look at the people who just entered. Some wore different outfits, ones Callan did not recognize, while a few managed to ring a bell to him. Though one of them had a familiar face.
After a moment of thought, Callan realized who it was. Hannah’s superior.
At the front was an S division leader, his Cape was bright red, and carried an ax alongside his sheathed sword.
“Please sit down.” He spoke in a hoarse voice.
The team quickly sat down on the vacant metal chairs. Callan sat next to an operative with an unknown uniform, her face obscured by a rebreather.
The lights quickly dimmed, and a screen lit up at the front.
“A division, along with a few other divisions have decided to form a collaboration operation together, specifically to research and perhaps recover a few unique mutants.”
The screen showed pictures of different mutants, all different from a common one. Some were larger, bigger, had more arms and legs, all unknown to Callan. Except one of them, the bladed mutant.
“Now a few of these were already well documented and understood. Such as the blade mutants. But the rest were only recently discovered, found by S and R strike teams that went too far from the city.” The screen moved to show another image, an image of a dead 4 armed mutant.
“A, S, L, H, E, and I divisions have allocated operatives to form special teams.” After talking, the image on the screen changed again, this time to a map of the city, with arrows surrounding it, all pointing outwards.
“The teams will be ordered to perform long range operations, descending farther from the city than normal.” He cleared his throat before continuing.
“Your task will be to locate any of these unique mutants and recover them dead or alive. E division will handle the transportation of these things.” Once he finished, the screen shut off, and the lights came back on.
“Your mission will begin in an hour, due to the nature of the mission. It is essential to maintain vigilance.” After speaking, the man turned to Hannah’s superior.
“Leadership of your team falls on Director Enzo of the A division, any further questions shall be directed to him. This briefing is adjourned.” Done with the briefing, the man quickly left the room to the loud hallway outside.
Once the man left, Enzo stood up and walked in front of the group. Now as the leader of the entire team.
“As the division leader said, all of you will participate in multiple missions to further understand these new threats. Remain vigilant at all times, especially with how far we are from the safety of the city. We will head to the gate in 5 minutes, take this time to get to know one another.” After speaking, he took out a folder from his coat and began reading.
Following his advice, some of the members began socializing with one another. Clara immediately approached the S division operative in the team.
“You have a neat wound on your face.” Callan was startled, as the operative next to him spoke through her rebreather.
“Do you need help with healing it?” She asked.
“Y-Yeah sure.” Raising her hand near Callan’s face, it emanated a faint green glow.
Callan felt a warm breeze on his face as the wound began to heal . Only leaving a visible scar.
“Name’s Alexia. H division operative. Guess we're teammates now.” The two quickly shook hands.
Callan noticed that her outfit was bulkier than the others, donning a lab coat over a thick undershirt for protection. On her back was a backpack with an antenna and a tablet hanging on it. On her waist was a small sling bag with stimulants, and a canteen of coffee.
Soon, the rest of the team began talking with each other. Hannah though approached her superior, and began conversing with him.
