Ch. 16 - Finding the Move Tutor

“Pst. Charlie,” I said, sitting on Charlie’s shoulder and whispering in his ear. “I think that Grant guy is following us.”

Charlie turned around, and the wannabe cool trainer, a good fifteen feet behind us, quickly looked to the side.

I shook my head. Smooth. Real smooth, dude. Not obvious at all.

I didn’t know what his intentions were, but Charmander’s trainer followed us all the way to the Pokemart instead of heading to the Pokemon Center to heal his knocked out Pokemon, done by yours truly, of course.

Charlie being Charlie, he walked back to the guy that was trying not to be ‘sus’ but failing terribly. “Hi, Grant, right? Are you also going to the Pokemart? Did you want to buy some potions to heal your Charmander?”

“Uh, yeah. What about you, Charlie?”

My eyebrows furrowed together as I looked back at the slightly buff trainer. Super sus, Grant. A potion to heal Charmander? Don’t know about that. Hmmm. And Bro remembered my trainer’s name.

Charlie pointed at me, “Sax wanted some chips, so I’m going to buy him some. Probably stock up on some supplies, too, before heading back to the Viridian Forest to get to Pewter City.”

I turned to look at Charlie with a look that said, “Why are you telling this weirdo where we’re going?!”

Grant looked at me with a weird look, after Charlie also told him my secret craze for chips. I gave Grant a sassy snap, turning my cute fuzzy yellow head to the side as my reply.

“Cool, um, I’m heading that way, too. You okay if I tag along? You know, safety in numbers?”

I looked at Grant with a dubious face.

Is the guy trying to get revenge? He didn’t seem like it. Maybe he was just being careful on his travels? I don’t think he’s trying to take his money back.

Grant was loaded with cash. Four grand was a thin layer from his thick wad of Pokedollars. Pretty ballsy of him to be carrying that amount around.

“Yeah! Of course! We probably have to camp overnight so let’s get some supplies. I’ll get some Super Repels for the night time while we sleep.”

“Yeah, Repels are a must. Food, too.”

I looked back and nodded my head.

“Do you have Pokeblocks for your Pikachu?”

I glared with a dark look of death at Grant. Sparks of electricity unconsciously flashed out from my cheeks.

“Uh, Sax doesn’t really like Pokeblocks. I should probably stock up on some real food, too, now that you mentioned that.”

The sliding door to the Pokemark slid open as we approached. Walking in, the place looked like a small convenient store, packed with all sorts of supplies on shelves and in coolers. Seeing a table where people could eat some of the bought convenience store food, I whispered in Charlie’s ear, “I’m going to sit down over there,” pointing to a table by the window. “Remember my bags of chips, okay. Maybe five would do for now.”

Before Charlie could say anything, I leaped off and hopped over to the table before jumping up, miscalculating, and needed to struggle to lift my body up the table’s edge.

“Be careful, Sax. I will see what I can fit. Call out to me if you need anything,” Charlie said, and I waved him off.

I let the two two new traveling companions do their thing, shopping for goodies. I was still wary of Grant, but having a rich dude along the way might be beneficial. Maybe I can squeeze him out of some more Pokedollars by battling Charmander again if Charlie runs low on funds.

For now, I nestled my back into the corner of the window, basking in the sunshine as I opened up my blue screen.

I looked at my screen a bit astonished. I leveled up four levels, but most interesting was the amount of experience I obtained for helping Pidgeotto. I suppose I don’t have to battle to obtain experience. I also noticed two new attacks that Pikachu typically learned at a higher level. I wasn’t complaining though. More variety in my arsenal was better.

But I pondered over the other features of my blue screen.

Hmmm…some of my stats are higher or lower than expected. Usually in the game, the numbers range pretty closely so I guess it’s not too off. But the physical attack stat seems kind of high for a Pikachu. Usually the attack stat is low and the special attack stat is higher. Weird.

“Well, my champion, that is because you have a tendency to use physical attacks more often. Like muscles, the more you train or use certain moves or skills, the more the associated stat will grow. Is that not why you wanted a stat for Stamina?”

Missing No.! Long time, huh?

“You have ignored my presence, and done as you pleased. Given the rate of your growth, when will you fulfill my request to reach level one hundred?”

Um, linearly speaking? It’s been a few days technically since I woke up in this world and now I’m level seven. Not bad, right?

“Decent progress, however, as you know, leveling only takes longer as you grow.”

I nodded my head. Another thing on my window screen caught my eye. I have two skill points. Hmmmm… What should I do? What should I get? Let’s check out the options first.

Pressing the two available skill points, another popup screen appeared. But I focused on a new and unsual unlocked part of the screen:

Hmmm…that’s new. Move Tutors? Great idea! Let’s see, Aanddii, is it? Interesting naming choice.

I pressed the first selection of the Move Tutor and low and behold! A map of Kanto popped up! Many colored dots associated with the names were moving around on the map! Kind of like in the game with how Legendary Pokemon, Suicune, Entei, and Raikou showed up on the map once you meet them!

I looked at the red dot representing the Move Tutor, Annddii.

Hey! He’s not too far from here. I think he’s in the Viridian Forest! Maybe Charlie and I can find him, and he can teach me a new Pokémon move! That would be out of this world! Maybe he can teach Squirtle something, too!
