Every careful stride of my small steps felt like a tiptoe. Charlie and I ever so lightly trekked down the dirt road, quietly making our way to rescue Pidgeotto. We didn’t dare make any loud noises to possibly give away our position to a certain angry bear Pokemon. The once lively Viridian Forest stood still and eerily silent. Gone were the once lively Pokemon noises that sounded in the air. A heavy tension weighed in our minds as we cautiously glanced around on high alert, worrying if Ursaring would jump out from nowhere.
However, “Chaaa…” I sighed. It was all for naught.
Unlike us, a certain someone with his hands in his pocket whistled un-worriedly as he took a peaceful stroll through the woods.
I looked up at Charlie, and he shrugged, shaking his head at Gary’s unconcerned and nonchalant attitude at the whole situation. I still haven’t forgiven him for flashing my lower half at Charlie. My face turned red from thinking of the embarrassing moment.
Damn you, Gary! Flashing aside, why is this guy not worried?! Is he that great? He better be. Or else, we’re doomed. That Ursaring is no joke.
I would soon find out.
A low thumping noise rattled the silent forest, echoing closer and closer. I saw the tree tops tilt as they were pushed aside from something large and powerful coming towards us. The earth below us trembled as Ursaring’s thick brown-furred legs kicked through multiple bushes and stomped on the side of the dirt road a small distance ahead of us.
He jerked his head in our direction and scowled at Charlie but especially at ME! My attempts to distract him while Charlie and the girl escaped earlier were clearly still fresh in his mind as he lowered his stance and prepared to charge at me.
“Sax! Be careful!” Charlie shouted.
I gritted my teeth. This fight would not be easy.
“Stand back, you two. I will handle this! Go! Alakazam!” Gary shouted, throwing a Pokeball in front of us.
The ball bounced on the ground, plopping open and shooting out a flash of light that materialized into a tall and slender humanoid Pokemon. Alakazam slowly descended from midair with the outline of his figure glowing in a sharp iridescent blue from using what seemed to be the Move Psychic.
The powerful Psychic-type Pokemon’s three-toed claw-like feet landed and touched the earth. His hands clasped around two silver spoons and pointed them at Ursaring. A egotistical huff from his nose at the end of his yellow sand-colored snout—a very similar attitude much like his trainer—flicked his long mustache side to side.
His narrow eyes—that lay below his ear-like spikes extending from his head—squinted even tighter, glaring at his opponent that charged and shot a dust cloud of dirt and debris into the distance.
“Alakazam! Telekinesis, and then Calm Mind!”

“Ala-ka-zam!” Gary’s Pokemon shouted, pointing one of his spoons at Ursaring.
Suddenly, a thin blue glowing aura surrounded Ursaring, lifting him off the ground and stopping his charge. Alakazam closed his eyes, humming in a low voice, “Zammmmmm,” as he focused and used Calm Mind.
The Pokémon slowly floated off the ground. His shoulders relaxed as he reopened his eyes. They were calm and relaxed, seeing the world clearly and unadulterated by panic or adrenaline.
Gary stomped one foot forward, swishing his hand across the air in front of him as he commanded, “You should thank me, Ursaring. For I shall give you a quick death! Psycho Cut, Alakazam!”
“Kazam!” The psychic Pokemon acknowledged.
A radiating translucent blue blade curved into the air before Alakazam. His eyes glowed a bright white, and the blade suddenly expanded and sharpened. With a swish of his spoon, Alakazam launched the blade of psychic energy whistling as it cut through the air and headed straight at Ursaring.
“Ursaaah!” The coarse brown-furred bear Pokemon would not take the attack without any retaliation.
Although Ursaring floated and could not run, it did not mean he could not move anything else! He swung out his claws, slashing at the psychic blade that came straight for his neck. The two attacks connected with a sharp ringing noise, and Ursaring bellowed out a roar of pain.
“URSARIIIINNG!”
He stopped a critical fatal hit, but his claws bled in a mangled mess. I flinched at a sudden death glare filled with deep hatred that shot out from Ursaring’s deep seated eyes. The enraged bear Pokémon opened his mouth, and a mass of heavy golden energy collected and pooled into a ball.
No way. Is that what I think it is?! Not that! Holy shit!
The pulling and condensing of the energy in Ursaring’s mouth disturbed the wind, forcing it to ripple into the surroundings. Cries from other Pokémon echoed in the distance as they ran away in fear. The earth trembled. The air felt thick as the golden ball of energy collected and condensed, glowing brighter and brighter—outshining the sun and nearly blinding all of us around.
A sense of worry could now be heard in Gary’s voice. I wanted to roll my eyes, but now was not the time.
“A Hyper Beam!? That Ursaring learned Hyper Beam!?! Shit! Is he trying to vaporize us along with the forest!? Damn it! Alakazam! Reflect, times ten! Follow up with maximum power Psychic to reinforce your barriers! Don’t let that beam go through no matter what, or we’re finished!”
“Kazam,” Alkazam grunted. He crossed his spoons, and ten thick and translucent purple bulletproof glass-like barriers slammed into the ground one right after the other in front of us.
The wind stopped. Usaring’s attack was ready.
The mass of energy collapsed into itself, and Ursaring howled, “URSAAAAARIIIIIIIING!” blasting out one of the most powerful Pokémon moves, Hyper Beam!
The mighty attack split the air, kicking up powerful winds that howled and crashed into the trees and vegetation alongside the road. The road…poor road. The beam didn’t even touch the ground. But merely flying above it cracked and ripped up the earth, leaving a chasm of melting and molten destruction. The attack continued—screeching with a high-pitched ringing straight in our direction.
Ursaring’s Hyper Beam collided and instantly smashed through the first five barriers of Alakazam’s Reflect.
“ALLLAAA!” The psychic Pokemon shouted with a grunt, startled from the shattering of his barriers that were reinforced with Psychic. He gripped his spoons tighter, pushing out with all his might as he radiated an intense blue light—sending out all his psychic energy to block the attack.
More and more purple barriers shattered, but the fracturing third to last barrier held back the oncoming attack. However, Ursaring did not relent. The bear Pokémon bellowed, with a roar that made me pull down my long yellow ears.
“Pi - kaaaaa!” I shouted, trying to press my ears closed to block out the harsh screeching bellow.
“Damn it!” Gary swore, starting to panic. He threw another Pokeball off and angled to the side. “Go! Blastoise! Hydro Pump full blast! Stop that Ursaring from using Hyper Beam!”
Blastoise, a massive shell-armored turtle, shot out of the ball and landed on the ground with a thud. His water cannons on his shoulders locked on Ursaring for an attack.
However, Ursaring did not stop. Instead something else shook the ground, leaping out from the side of the road behind us.
“Pinsir!”
“Duskull!”
“Sir Gary! We got company!”
This wasn’t looking good. Another Pokémon jumped out of the woods near Ursaring and landed on its many legs, angrily hissing at us.
“Ariados!”
