Chapter 9: level up

Chapter 9: level up

Finally, one level closer to unlocking the next chapter in the book. What world-breaking command will come next?

I thanked the blacksmith and went to the town’s alchemy guild. The alchemy guild was situated in a tall pagoda, the size of which was as large as the largest hall in the forbidden palace. It towered above the rest of the town, which made it seem out of place. Although this was part of the design of the first town, it still felt weird to see a oriental structure in such a western town.

I entered the guild, and asked the receptor if I could observe the alchemists in action. Alchemy is the art of turning something into another thing of equal value in western culture. However, in chinese culture, it was all about creating pills out of medicinal herbs using a medicinal furnace.

I entered the pagoda, asking the receptionist if I could watch the alchemist make something.

‘No.’ He said flatly.

‘Har? What if I pay a small f—’

‘Bribery! Bastard, get out!’

‘Please, I really need to see how this job is like.’

‘Fine, you dumb f*cker, come in a few days since there’s an event. You can watch the alchemist firsthand.’

After getting chased away, I went to some other place to find a good job. What else could I pick? Maybe there is some other thing that I missed out on… There really is nothing that I can think of. Ah, maybe a weaponsmith.

Weaponsmiths are just like normal blacksmiths, but with the weapon chance percentages dramatically increased, while decreasing the chances of everything else. Basically, a blacksmith is an all-rounder, while the other smiths are specialised in a certain field. Entering the shabby hellhole of a shop, I watched as the shopkeeper hammered a sword into shape.

‘Yes, what do you want?’

‘I want to try and make you a weapon. I’ll pay for the materials and rent the equipment.’

‘Oh. I’ll give you a freebie if you want. Ah but you must come to this place to buy weapons in the future.’

Whatever. It doesn’t matter since I don’t have to keep my promise. Its unlikely that he would know if I went to a different shop, right? (Foreshadowing) (TN: if the ‘TN:’ prefix is not added in the brackets, then it is the author’s original message)

I accepted the offer and picked up the hammer and a piece of metal. I’ve already done so once, what could go wrong? (Foreshadowing)

I decided to try something else. I decided to craft a katana instead of a simple sword. Since this world is mostly based on western and local (TN: in this case, Chinese) culture, katanas did not exist in the game, so I wanted to see the difference between this world and the actual game. Whatever happens, I think that I wouldn’t be too dissatisfied.

If I can craft them, then I could craft almost everything in my previous world. However, if I couldn’t, then I still win, because then this world can’t be too different from the game.

Deciding on it, I started with the weaponsmithing.

When the katana was finally done, I picked it up and examined it.
