Flipping open the papers, I soon realised that they were in a different language, one that I had never seen before.
‘Damnit! Why is the system so weird? The status is in chinese, the console is in english, and then the tutorial is in this world’s language!’ Just standardise it in one language! Chinese preferably, but english is still ok (TN: the chinese have to learn english nowadays, and the MC is familiar with english. It is written like this as the most commonly used chinese programming language is still english-based).
I heard a knock at the door as Mary’s voice exclaimed that it was lunch time.
‘Come in’
The door swung open as Mary walked into the room. She was carrying a bowl of porridge and a cup of hot water. ‘Uhhh, could you read this paper for m— Never mind.’ I asked her to read the paper aloud. Now that I think of it, why can I understand her speech when I can’t read? However, when I looked down, nothing could be seen in my hand. I’m not even confused at this point. They couldn’t see the console, so what makes me think that she will be able to see the document?
With little(no) choice left, I had to ask her to teach me to read and write.
‘Huh? You’re illiterate?’ Mary was shocked. She had thought I was a noble of similar due to my mannerisms and my clothes. After all, weaves do not exist in this world, so cheap clothes in my previous world are expensive in this one.
‘I’m not illiterate, I just can’t read this place’s language,’ I retorted
‘But you can speak it? Sound’s fishy’ said a certain Edward, who was watching from the door

‘Shut up you degenerate’ I snorted. After a back-and-forth between the two of us, Mary asked us to stop and told me to wait. She left the room, and came back after a while, carrying a thick book. It was an old book, like one of the restored books in museums. It seemed to be a book of classic literature, from the picture on the cover.
She took a stool and passed it to me. We read it all afternoon, with her teaching me all of the meanings and the grammar. By the time I was done, I figured out that it was just like English, with the different characters sort of mixing and matching. By the end of the lesson, I realised that the spellings and grammar was exactly the same as English, but the pronunciation was the same as Chinese. How lazy, just making the different world have the same language or a mix of languages as the other world.
I looked for some paper and a pen. I found a pen, but no paper. Ah, right, the tutorial is also made of paper, so I should be able to write on it. I typed in /controllerTutorial and took the piece of paper again. I substituted each letter and wrote it out in English. It reads roughly as follows: ‘

Basics and theory
The console is a special skill given to the administrators of the game, or a player with a special job: Administrator.
The complexity and diversity of the commands will increase along with the player’s int, level, and job level. Skills will be impossible to get, but will be turned into commands (exception: Job-related skills). Any commands that are entered by hand will be usable provided the Mana requirements are met. Once entered by hand, the skills will be entered into the command autofill list and commands are automatically unlocked as requirements are met.
The job: administrator can have a second job, though it is limited to ‘Production’ jobs only (E.g. Blacksmith, Seamstress, Chef, etc.)
Selecting a second job will give the player job-specific skills. Skills are unlocked as requirements are met.
[Redacted] unlocked at level 5, Administrator level 2’
