Prologue V

The Loop Stops Here

The universe had changed overnight and only one person realized. In a moment it went from being a universe where the Celestials would watch over. Celestials, those long-vaunted beings that many inhabitants of the universe took to calling gods. They would often be found, keeping track over the universe until the next apocalypse occurred. The only problem? They were gone. Their reason for leaving? Simple, there were going to be no more apocalypses.

  The universe was now safe.

This meant quite a few things were going to happen in short succession. First, the leveling market would stop. People who based their entire lives, and the lives of their family on fighting Prolaxians would soon change. There were no more levels, just as there would never be another Prolaxian. All the certs in circulation now would be all that was left, meaning anyone who kept track of their certs for the moment would soon find themselves rich beyond all compare.

The only problem? What to do in the meantime.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

What does a person who battled to save the universe do, once their whole purpose for being is over?

What do you do, when you save the universe and all that you get as a reward, are a few hundred levels, memories of a past that never happened, a few dozen or so skills, more powers than are necessary, and enough emotional baggage to sink the titanic? Well, the answer to that one is simple, you do what you can.

You make note of the truly important things first, then work your way down the list of important events.

What can you do in a universe that has already changed, but is not ready to accept the fact that it has changed? Anything you want. Go ahead, the gods aren’t looking, no one is.

For the first time since its creation, Kyle Goldman’s universe is free of all threats of an apocalypse. This is probably the most terrifying moment the universe has ever experienced. Now that it will no longer have rallying events to force the cooperation of everyone, will the different space faring races break apart, or unite under one banner?

Meanwhile, Kyle Goldman himself has a lot to do as well. He should feel elated, being the unsung hero of the universe. A universe that will never know of, nor care of the sacrifices he and his companions made.

Again, the universe changed significantly over night, and no one noticed.

At least no one noticed at first.

There are signs, subtle flakes of debris that will settle into place over time.

The most powerful of Oracles and Precognitives both have already started to notice the signs of the change, but none have truly grasped the true meaning of these changes.

Yet, despite all the massive changes to the internal workings of the universe. The universe itself was built to last and will continue to carry on as if nothing extraordinary happened.
