(Fennen) Chapter 4 - Moving through the motions

It had been a few weeks since Fennen had moved in and started helping Rosa. The days had been fairly simple and nothing exciting had happens, which pleased Fennen quite a bit.

He had grown very fond of Rosa over the past few weeks. They did a lot of work together, chatted every day and night. They talked about their boring days, their happy days, the sad, the frustrating. They shared everything with each other. He was planning to tell her that he liked her. He didn't want to leave after his wound had fully healed, so he was going to tell her tonight.

Although his life was normal again, he couldn't help but feel like something had been watching him. He would sometimes see things phase out of view right in front of him, only to come back not exactly the way it was while still having the same physical structure. This would've freaked anyone else out but Fennen had been through much weirder, and only thought it was strange. He hadn't really gotten to use any magic yet, as there had been no reason to, but he had been practicing it. Light magic was pretty straightforward, but he couldn't figure out what void did.

However, he could think about that later as it was almost dinner time. As soon as Rosa called him he went to the dinner table, said his thanks and started eating. They discussed their work for today, and some casual conversation ensued. Fennen decided it was the perfect time to confess to her. So he did. Rosa was shocked, but she said yes. She also liked Fennen and thought he was great. Fennen was ecstatic and pulled out the flower he had prepared for her and gave it to her. A rose, for obvious reasons. She happily accepted and set it in the middle of the table.

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

it was time for them to sleep and so Fennen headed to bed. Just as he was drifting off he realized he was back. Back in the void. He couldn't hear, he couldn't smell, and he couldn't see. This persisted. He couldn't wake himself up, and he was starting to become panicked.

What would happen to Rosa if I don't wake up? He thought incredibly worried. I just confessed to her, this can't happen now.

...

He didn't know how much time had passed. He felt like he had been here for months, but for all he knew it could be minutes or even years. And suddenly his senses returned. He was lying on a patch of dirt, in front of him a burned down house.

Rosa's house. He panicked, why did these things happen to him? Why was he always the victim? WHY did this world HATE him? Answers he may never learn, and may always ask. He looked around the burned rubble. He hoped Rosa had made it out safe.

He found her, a charred corpse under the collapsed ceiling. He felt an intense flood of emotions. Anger, sadness, despair, and finally? Nothing. He felt nothing anymore. He thought that maybe this world didn't deserve to exist anymore. Why had he been tortured for so long, just to have his one joy after being set free stolen from him.

He would have his revenge, this world will suffer. In the time he was in the void he had figured it out. Void was also straightforward, but only if you knew what the void was. He could banish things to the void, and testing now that he was in the real world, all he had to do was touch whatever he wanted banished.

Why was he given this power? Maybe, he thought, it's because I had to suffer. Or maybe I had to suffer because I was given this power. Nothing was free and Fennen knew that, and maybe suffering was the price of being powerful. He decided to set out, but before doing so he decided to give Rosa a proper sendoff. He buried her, took a rose, and injected void power into it. It emanated incompleteness, but still looked completely normal. He asked her to wait for him, and left.
