The Unified Republics

3 days had passed since Alex destroyed the entire Germanium army. He had somehow recovered from the shock; it wasn’t the first time he killed someone.

Back in the Middle East wars, Alex killed many, but unlike then, now he killed every fucking one, with refinements of cruelty. He had never done something like this.

He is a war criminal in that world now, but no one knows that yet.

In these three days, Alex’s atmosphere was heavy. Every time Michael or Comoron tried to ask him what happened, Harper somehow went in and stopped them from digging further into what happened.

Tom could only guess what happened there, but he wouldn’t step in. He was happy that these guys were dead, and he would probably be happy to see how they died.

He really didn’t mind the Germanium officers getting what they deserved; he’s more focused on understanding Alex’s powers to literally vanquish an entire fleet, even though it's a small one.

From what Alex and the others told him, they had something called “magical power," and that “power” could do awesome things, like letting them jump that distance, shoot with their hands, and other things. The only issue was that the power wasn’t better than ordinary weapons, so they would use them only if necessary.

Tom understood what they meant.

After explaining everything, they now had to make Tom shut up. He isn’t even closer to being loyal towards the Reich, but what about the Unified Republic, his own country?

Alex proposed something that Tom wouldn’t even dream about.

“Tom, you know more than what we would want you to, but after all, you are our saviors. I will go straight to the point. Do you have anything attaching you to this world?”

“I have my boat, I have my house on the beach, and I have my money. I won’t say anything about you guys; don’t worry about it.”

"Tom, let’s be honest; you know that it is impossible. Do you have anyone who you love?”

Tom thought for a while that he couldn’t go against these guys, so he would just be honest. He had to negotiate his own way out of this situation. Even though he didn’t have anyone special, he still had the fire of life in his veins, and he wouldn’t give up on that.

“To be honest, I don’t, but I have the willingness to live. I won’t give up on that.”

Tom said, then Alex looked at him and started to laugh.

“You understood everything in the most wrong way possible. We won’t kill you; what I am proposing is another thing.”

“Wait? How are you sure I won’t open my mouth then?”

“Remember our talk before we got interrupted by these bastards?”

“About the ocean, and how I wish that it was cleaner?”

“Yes! That’s it. What I want you to do is: Give up in this world and restart somewhere else.”

“Hahaha, we both know it is impossible, Alex.”

“It isn’t. You saved our lives when you accepted our request, and you even lost your right to enter the Reich because of that. What I want to offer you is something beyond your wildest dreams.”

“Then, what is it?”

Tom gulped. He was happy that he wouldn’t be killed, but even so, he was going to face something absurd, and he knew it.

“After we reach the Asmerians lands, you will have 1 week to pack everything you want, no matter what and the size of it. After that, you will sleep. When you open your eyes, you will find yourself close to an old fishing village. The ocean there will be the cleanest you will ever find in your life, and there will be only you there who understand what is going on. Unfortunately, you will have to learn their language, but we will leave a guide.”

Alex said. It surely was something people in this world would kill for. Unlike Earth, which has extremely complicated machinery and computers, in this world, everything is simpler, yet they have far better technology.

“Hmm. What if I deny it?”

“You won’t, but if you do, nothing will happen. You will forget about today, and your banishment from the Reich will be replaced with other memories. Do you really want to miss this chance? You don’t have any attachment to this world, do you?”

“Well. I can’t leave my house behind. That house was the house my wife and I had our son, and in the same house they were happy before they entered an accident and died. I really want to live in that paradise you described—a place that hasn’t yet met the perversity of the technology, but I’ll decline.”

Tom said. He was sad about it, but for him, memories were something he wouldn’t give up on.

“If you really are attached to that house, you can have it there. But in exchange, you will leave all the money you have with you for us. You can keep jewels and material values, but you have to leave the money behind.”

Alex said. That was a way to persuade Tom to accept their deal and, at the same time, secure a financial base for themselves.

“Can I keep the gold?”

“You can.”

“I accept it.”

“Then we have a deal. Don’t open your mouth, and you will finally fish in a clean ocean.”

Alex said it. He was happy; he really wished Tom to be happy. He knew that he couldn’t just grab Tom and teleport him without asking for his permission; he didn’t even know if he wanted that. He’s glad that everything worked out smoothly.

After that, another day passed, and they were finally in Asmerian soil. They landed in a small town named Summerville, which Tom said was his hometown.

That place was good. The ocean there was gray, and they could see pollution in the sky, but unlike the Reich, that place was peaceful.

The houses were well done, made from fine concrete, and the streets were clean. Seeing the environment, they could grasp the pollution from afar, but there wasn’t any nearby.

That town would serve as their base in this world for now.

“Is there anything like a consulate here?”

Harper asked.

“Yes, there is. Here, can you see that place? It is the Asmerian consulate; they are accepting refugees. I’ll give you guys a hand in that.”

Tom answered while pointing to a map.

In the Unified Republics, they do accept refugees, with the condition that they are willing to assimilate. Alex, Harper, Michael, and Comoron already knew Asmerian, so it wouldn’t be a problem. As for their background, to avoid getting terrorists and criminals in, they would have to prove their background somehow. Usually, it goes by just answering their questions, and they will see if there are inconsistencies based on what they heard.

The process wasn’t hard; it was only made because of bureaucracy, as the Asmerians had already faced problems with terrorists coming in with the immigration system. It was a group of religious extremists from the Sahr region that made a mess in Asmerian lands; since then, their religion is prohibited in Asmerian soil, and their people were deported.

Asmeria was really similar to the United States of America, but unlike America, the Asmerians didn’t give a fuck about human rights, only about the well-being of their population.

Well, it wasn’t something that they had to care much about.

“So, we just have to go there and ask for citizenship?”

Harper asked.

“Yes, and you don’t need any documents. Just prove that you are good willed towards the URA, and you are willing to assimilate into one of them.”

Tom answered.

“It won’t be hard.”

Harper said.

1 hour has passed since then. The interviewer finally called them; their turn had finally come. Unlike Earth, the computers here aren’t efficient. It is something that ordinary people can’t place their hands in. No wonder that even though the Reich had drones, the rest wasn’t something impressive.

Harper wondered how in hell Emily could put her hands in computers since it was something expensive. They would ask her later.

Each one of them was called by different interviewers. They had to do it separately. Nothing they hadn’t planned already.

“Your name, please, sir.”

The interviewer asked.

“It is Alex Argent, miss.”

“Oh, your Asmerian is good; tell me about your story and how you got here.”

“It was tough, miss. I couldn’t even call my own country mine. That disgusting dictatorship was I couldn’t place myself in their culture; they wouldn’t let it happen. I had to live in the slums for my entire life until now, eating grilled scorpions and spiders. I finally decided to escape from that hell. I lost my best friend in that place.”

Alex started to cry while he was talking about his "past." He used memories from Gus to revive emotions and be more convincing. As for the culture and environment, he remembered the terrorists in the Middle East and the hell of a place it was for him. Even though he was making up a story about him escaping the Reich, that story was based on something real.

“I… I couldn’t call that place home; I promised myself that land will have only my spit! I couldn’t take that anymore, so we destroyed some of the Germanium drones. I grabbed their weapons, modified them, and constructed a laser gun, which I used to kill the Germanium officers, EVERY ONE OF THEM.”

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

At that moment, Alex started to lose himself. He remembered about the vessel accident.

“Calm down, sir; you are safe now.”

The interviewer grabbed Alex’s hands with a gentle touch. She understood that the man in front of her had to do unholy things to get where he is right now, and he even lost a friend. The interview wasn’t meant to be something that would trigger emotions in the people, but something that would help them while keeping the Unified Republics safe.

“I… sob… Thank you.”

Alex was crying in front of the interviewer. She then gave him a soft tissue to wash his face.

“You passed. Welcome to the Unified Republics of Asmeria!”

The interviewer, even though she’s from a small city, could recognize that Alex’s expressions were his true emotions. He had to kill to reach Asmeria, and so they wouldn’t let it be in vain.

“Alright, just place your finger in this box here and look at this dot here.”

The interviewer said. What she wanted was a photo of him and his fingerprint to print his document.

“Alright… Thank you and sorry for that scene just now; I couldn’t control myself.”

“Don’t worry, sir; I understand that you went through trouble, but now you can live a happy life. Look forward to your future instead of regretting your past.”

The interviewer was extremely human here. She would really do well in America also.

Alex finished the bureaucracy, and after 15 minutes, he got his hands into the document.

It was a well-made card containing a number, Alex’s photo, and his fingerprint. There was also other information regarding the document itself, Alex’s birthday, and other things. For that, he asked Tom beforehand about this world’s calendar and made the data something believable.

Michael could see Alex’s acting. He was good, extremely good if he had to say, and that’s precisely what made it look so eerie.

As Alex finished his interview and got his document, so did the rest.

“Alright, everything’s done for now. We secured our documents, and now we are ready for business.”

Alex said.

“You are right. We now are finally ready to earn some good money and buy our spacecraft.”

Harper said. He knew that the spacecraft was something far for now, but even though they couldn’t just sit around now that they have a nightclub,.

That place surely was something good to have, but not enough.

Everyone else agreed, so they would leave for a week to finally fulfill the promise with Tom.

As everyone agreed, Alex went to Tom’s location; he was sitting in a square nearby.

“Tom.”

Alex called Tom. He was surprised to see Alex; it went quickly.

“Everything was done quite fast; that’s surprising!”

Tom said.

“Yeah… We were also surprised by how smooth it went.”

“And now? What will you do from now on?”

“I plan on fulfilling my promise. Where’s your house?”

“It is on the outskirts of the town, facing the ocean. Come with me.”

Tom led the way towards his house; Alex followed him. After 43 minutes of walking, they finally reached Tom’s house. It was too big for only one person; the house had two floors, each with at least 4 rooms.

In front of the house was a garden with flowers and food.

Tom’s land was big; it had at least 200 square feet. That land would surely cost a lot in the US, but here it didn’t.

The Unified Republics were surely wealth. Even though there was pollution afar, the land price wasn’t that big.

“Here is my beloved home. That house isn’t something far from average, but it has many stories between these walls. I don’t know if you can understand what I mean, but that’s my home; I can’t lose it.”

“I understand… As you already accepted our deal, in one week from now on, you will have time to buy things to have with you, and then you and your house will be teleported to another world. Be ready.”

After Alex said that, his body was surrounded by a thick red smoke. After that smoke dissipated itself, Alex wasn’t there anymore.

Tom could only laugh at the situation.

….

..

“I’m home, honey.”

Alex said.

“Welcome back, dear.”

Alicia said.

She could feel that something was different in Alex. She couldn’t tell what, but the atmosphere around him was the same one he had when he lost Gus in the war. She didn’t want to remember such a time.

“Alex, what happened?”

“What do you mean, honey?”

“I can see clearly, you aren’t well, and this atmosphere around you... Remember the same atmosphere you had when Gus died?”

“I guess I can’t hide it from you, honey. Alright, I’ll explain everything, but promise me that you won’t puke from hearing it.”

“I… gulp… Promise.”

Alicia promised. She couldn’t turn back anymore. She was really afraid of what was coming; when Gus died, Alex assaulted the enemy territory, and what happened after that? Is something that they don’t want to remember?

“When I was escaping from the slums, we went to a port city. From there, we met a guy named Tom, who gave us a ride to a country named Unified Republics of Asmeria. They are similar to the United States of America, but with better technology. The problem is: In the middle of the travel, we met a Germanium fleet. We had to kill them all. There isn’t any surprise; it is our job after all. The problem was when I jumped into their main vessel. I could feel something that wasn’t me, and I started to torture them. Kill them. I burned some of them alive and cured them, making them feel the pain again and again. As for the main crew, they suffered a fate worse than anything I could ever imagine. I did all of this; it was my fault.”

“Dear…”

Alicia was shocked; she never heard in such details Alex’s work, but now he told everything.

He started to cry again; he had cried more this week than he had in years.

Alicia, who had known Alex since then, knew that it must have been an extremely traumatic experience for him.

“You don’t need to continue. Everything is ok, Alex. I forgive you.”

Alicia didn’t have anything to forgive Alex, but she said it even so because it would make him feel better.

“Thank you.”

Alex said.

They both slept into each other’s shoulders on the sofa that night.

..

Comoron got home, his room in the Night Club. He could feel Emily looking at him with a smile on her face.

“You are back, Comoron.”

“Yes, I’m back. How’s your mother?”

“She’s good; she even learned English and entered some group called ‘Chat Group’, which is composed with other ladies of her age. She’s with them right now, so it will take a while before she comes home.”

“That’s nice. It is good to know that she got a life now, even though it sent fast.”

“Yes, I’m happy for her.”

Comoron and Emily started to chat; they know each other pretty well at this moment.

“So, how was the travel? Which place did you go?”

Emily asked.

“We faced some problems in the water, but we managed to finish the Germanium fleet.”

“Wow, these guys will have a hard time finding who destroyed their fleet. Well, it isn’t my problem; good for them; they deserve things even worse. I hope they suffered.”

“They did. Michael killed everyone of them that were trying to escape; Alex cast a barrier so they couldn’t escape, and we killed every one of them; no one survived.”

“Well, it would be good if these guys suffered worse fates. But I guess that they deserve to be killed like insects.”

“Yeah… But don’t worry, they won’t find about us. Alex stores everything in his spatial storage—the ships, the boats, everything. He said that in the near future, he will fix them and turn those ships into something usable.”

Comoron felt a little uneasy hearing Emily’s anger towards the Reich. But it was justifiable.

“That’s such a scary space he has. I’m glad I’m at his side.”

“Me too…”

Comoron and Emily said in a cynical tone.

“How were the Unified Republics?”

“That place was normal, I guess? There wasn’t much difference from there and here, to be honest. But Alex said they had better technology. The Reich seems to surpass the Asmerian technology, but we only met a small port city from the Unified Republics; we have yet to meet a metropolis.”

“I know one that you guys should visit; it is a city named New Lancaster; that place is the richest city in the world.”

“I will. And I will take you with me too!”

“Oh, is that a date you are proposing?”

“It isn’t!”

Comoron said it while he was hiding his flushed face.

“Hahahaha, don’t worry, it was a joke.”

Emily laughed.

“I get it. Then, let’s eat something.”

“Hmm, alright, I’m hungry.”

Emily was smiling; Comoron was happy seeing that expression of hers. He can’t tell exactly since when, but he started to like Emily quite a lot; she’s a good friend and easy to talk with.

Emily also felt the same towards him; Comoron was a simple guy yet full of mysteries and stories to tell. His atmosphere was a cozy one; it was easy to talk with him and have him around.

They ordered a dish called “Pizza” from an online app. This world is amazing; the concept of delivery is new for both Emily and Comoron; the idea of having food at your home for a few is a mind-blowing idea.

As they waited for that so-called "Pizza," they talked more about their personal lives.

“So, back then, when you were a noble, did you marry someone or had a girl friend?”

“No, my dad passed away before he arranged a marriage for me.”

“The lives of nobles are tough.”

“Yes… And what about you? Did you have anyone?”

“Nope. Since young, I took care of my mother. I remember the time when I destroyed some Germanium drones and crafted a computer from them. I couldn’t afford to love someone aside from my mother at that time.”

“The life of a commoner is tough.”

“Well, things are better now.”

“So, now you have time for love?”

“Yes, but finding someone isn’t that easy, you know?”

“Then, what kind of people are you looking for?”

“Hmm… Let me see. That person must be smart and be able to talk with me properly, like you do. That person must also be innocent and yet understand the life hardships, and that person must treat me well, like you do, for example. As for physical appearance, I won’t comply much, but if I were to choose, that person needs to have green eyes and blond hair, not too tall or short. I think that around 5’9’’ is enough. That person needs to work also; I can’t date with a useless man, can I?”

After Emily said that, Comoron flushed. She basically described him.

After seeing Comoron, she wondered why he was flushed when she remembered what she just said and noticed that she basically described him and used “like you” as an example too many times.

She instantly flushed, and an embarrassing atmosphere surrounded them.

They stayed quite for a few minutes from embarrassment when the deliverer came and rang the bell.

“I go!”

“I go!”

Both of them got up at the same time, and they hit each other’s heads.

Comoron gave his hand to Emily, which she grabbed, and both of them got up again. They opened the door, paid the deliverer, and they started to eat. They finally could say proper words now since the earlier embarrassment.

..

A week passed since then, and Alex, Michael, Comoron, and Harper teleported close to Tom’s house. They grabbed Emily with them also, so she could have her citizenship also. Comoron went with her to the consulate, where he previously said that a friend of his would come soon.

As for Alex and the rest of them, they would meet Tom.

They walked towards his home and ranged the bell.

“Tom, it is time.”

Tom heard Alex shouting, and he instantly came. He had already prepared the stuff, including books, tools, and other things he would use in a world that doesn't have technology.

“I’m ready, but before, can I say goodbye to this place? I am quite attached to it, as you can see.”

“Yes, you can. Also, before we go, we need you to hand the land for us; we will need it later. But don’t worry, you will have a land as big as this one in the other world.”

“Hmm, I can’t go against you, and you know, there’s no need for you to deceive me, so I’ll do it.”

Tom led the way towards the registry office. He had already told them that his lands would receive a new owner soon, so everything was ready, and they only had to sign the documents.

As they reached the registry office, they entered and almost instantly got called to sign the documents. They signed the documents, and now they are ready to go.

They returned to Tom’s home, and as the owner of these lands, Alex can legally take that home off.

“Time for the last goodbye, and a hello for a new beginning. Don’t worry, we got you a good land.”

Alex said.

“I’m ready; please get me there, and also the tombs of both my son and wife. Take the garden and the little harbor, as well as the structure. The rest is yours.”

“Quite exigent, uh. Well, you deserve that, Tom. Be ready.”

As Alex said it, a very thick red smoke covered the entire area, hiding the entire land, and when that smoke dispersed, they were in the Kingdom.

“Tom, that’s your new home. Here’s a map for you, as well as a compass, so you won’t get lost. We got your boat as well, and everything else. We also have gifts for you.”

Alex said.

After that, Alex teleported one of the five boats, a small one, from the Germanium fleet.

“Here is one of their boats. It is kind of destroyed, but I guess that you can fix that or use it in another way; well, you will soon encounter a way to use that.”

Alex said.

“As for me, I got you this workshop. It is equipped with everything you need.”

Michael said. He was pretty proud of himself for buying that; it cost him only 40 thousand dollars, which he had.

“As for me, I got you 20 gold coins and a couple of silver and bronze coins as well. These will be useful for you when you need to buy something. Here is a small paper explaining its prices and other things. Also, Comoron prepared you this grimoire. Apparently, you can use magic to a certain extent, so here it contains all the spells you may need to use, which includes one that lets you communicate with local people. Well, he got you also a tutorial of how to use magic, and there’s a friend of his in a land nearby, so you can get his help.”

Harper said.

“Wow… These are amazing gifts, guys. I really thank you. Well, now that I own this land and I have a clean ocean in front of me, I have to enjoy my life. I guess that I can finally rest after all these years.”

Tom started to cry, but it was tears of joy. He was really happy about what happened.

“Guess that now it is our leave. Enjoy your life, Tom!”

Alex said, and that thick smoke Alex used to cover his portal appeared, and after it dissipated, they weren’t in that place anymore.

“These guys are amazing. Well, I got a new life (and a better one) after all, so who am I to complain?”

Tom thought.

Alex and his group returned to the Unified Republics. Now, it was time to work; they have a long way to go before they are finally satisfied.
