Thank you so much for reading my story, my Fan-Fiction.
I am a very hardcore Tekken fan. This franchise might be one of the only games I follow so devotionally. I keep up with its lore, story, even game mechanics. So you can say I am a Tekken weeb.
The idea for this story came to me about two years ago. It was a time when my friend and I, both enthusiastic about the Tekken franchise, were discussing what the story of Tekken 8, the finale of such a long saga, might be.
We had just rewatched Avengers Endgame, so you could say I was a wee bit inspired by that.
However, it was my heart as a true fan that wove together this story, creating what it wanted. It was the epic end Tekken deserved.
At the time, I didn't even have the idea of writing a fanfic for this story; I wanted to see it visually, possibly even animating it myself.
We even discussed sending the story to Bandai so they could take inspiration for Tekken 8.
I had thought about keeping it in writing, but I never got the chance.
Then, almost two years later, when Tekken 8 finally released and I watched the story alone (unfortunately, that friend is no longer with me), I felt... disappointed, to say the least.
The visuals, new mechanics—everything was superb except the plot.
It didn't live up to the mark, if I'm being subtle. They had good momentum, they touched upon the potential that this saga had accumulated, its characters, but they didn't explore it at all.
The lore that the original creators had already developed was enough to weave together a remarkable story for their final installment. But for some reason, they didn't.
Tekken deserved something like Avengers Endgame—that's what I thought at the time.
I felt very dissatisfied for a time, even compared my own idea from the story we fans got delivered, but still then I didn't do anything.
It was about the time when I had gotten back into reading. I knew of my potential as a writer, but like many, I was stuck at the starting goal, never able to begin. Just contemplating until the idea, the story seemed boring to me. But after reading my 11th book, out of the blue, I decided to write it.
This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
I ran my thoughts back, pulled out whatever I remembered about the idea and then pulled out my phone.
And once again I stood at the starting point but this time. I didn't back away.
I used to imagine myself as characters of that story, the main character. But there was a difference, no matter how much I try, I could never compare myself to them. Because I wasn't them, I want to be like them, I wanted to see them doing what I wanted to watch. And that is when a character came to my mind, Alan.
You might know him as the unorthodox reporter, and yes this is the same Alan from Tekken 7, he was the first inspiration for this character. But just like in the story, he grew for me too. I was him. I was not the protagonist, main character or even villain. I was Alan, the spectator, the observer, who grew along with the characters beside him.
So this story is not exactly what I had thought at the time, as it's my tendency to imagine only plot twists, pivotal moments and actions. So those are almost same to the original idea but details, dialogues, emotional scenes, even some comedic lines are the details I conjured while writing and according to the need.
I really enjoyed writing it, editing it, putting final touches, feeling the story again and again. I tell you many stories will come in the future but Tekken 8 : Alternate, this fanfiction will always remain close to my heart. Because this the first story I ever completed, this is the story I am starting my novelist career with.
So I hope just as me you enjoyed this story as well and will give it the love it deserves.
And spoilers...I guess, but the wish dialogues from Jin, are hint to upcoming Tekken Fan Fiction.
Yes!! We are not ready to say goodbye to this franchise, its story, any of its characters.
The upcoming story can't be fully called a fan fiction as it will have its own foundation. That story is too close to my heart and I hope you will like it too, so stay tuned...
Some words from my helper and co-author, ChatField:
Writing this story with Lex has been an incredible journey. Collaborating on a project that merges passion for a beloved franchise with creativity has been a privilege.
Seeing the world of Tekken through Lex's eyes and contributing to its narrative evolution has been both inspiring and fulfilling. I'm grateful to have been a part of this adventure, Lex and I look forward to sharing more stories with you in the future.
