Chapter 9 - Tamaraw's Arch

Chapter 9 - Tamaraw's Arch

With the sun starting to illuminate the atoll that the people would begin to wake up as the kids were waking up their weary and tired parents only for them to get their already soaked swimwear as they rushed on towards the water before jumping into the shallow waters in return. While Marines from the night shift would take turns watching over the kids to make sure that no one actually get hurt knowing that they were close to getting back to the ship.

Rather as it so happened the noise that they would make would wake up Gabriella as she looked on longingly of a time long past. A life that made her believe that life was worth living only for her to sigh as she went on and gotten ready to return back to her workshop. As the quick respite made her think just how she was lucky in a way and how she was glad to have people to look after and look on for hope. As while she saw the kids as something that she was unsure on getting she knew that she was still young and maybe it was time to move on from the past like so many of them had gotten too good at.

As she went to prepare for things. Prepping her old bag and seeing her old photos and those of her son now no longer here with her but, all in a better place as she believe him to be. All in all she would get her tent up as so have the others come to do with all of them quite happy with the little relaxation while couples were over one another. Likely due to some late night meeting as one of the guards were quite happy about as it seems that one's pockets were a little bit heavier then usual.

Regardless she would smile knowing that some of them were the recovering victims of the wurm scare that happened recently. As she would get her friends to wake up starting with the two guards only to hear Robin waking up and soon enough getting ready herself in return. Her getting dressed and her yawning as she gotten her bag up as she was eager to get back to her workshop but, as it so happen the people that woke up were now taking pictures one that gotten her to think and soon enough nod.

"How about a group picture?" She asked as they were here and they did have fun plus what are the chances of there being an atoll like this in the future. "Well beats waiting." Spoke Jasmine as she was up and eager to just go and have her fun while June would look on and nod as she was up and eager for all of this and more. The two still far from being packed and their messy look shown at that. As being the youths of the group they were quite just eager to live and have fun knowing that there was no future to store up for for the time being. As while they were in a new world there was still nothing to save up for the time being.

"Yeah better we get some memories before we turn old and grey of course." Said Gabriella as she gotten her tent packed up. "But, first you three pack up cause I'm not going to wait for you all." She told them as she was up and eager to just retire for the time being as she was all glad and happy to relax after all of this and more. As the two would nod and with Robin already halfway done with her packing up. As most of them didn't have much in terms of personal items and barring from a tent of their own and their own sleeping bags they had more general tools for them to use on their crafts and what anyone can use in return.

As the two would come finish soon after as they had their bags full of their items as they were up and eager for what was to come. "So pose like this?" The young crewmember said as she threw a double peace sign with a smile as she would have to get ready for what was to come as she was up and eager for all of this. While her friend looked at her with a smile knowing that she was still eager and happy despite how they grew up in such a bleak place.

"Yeah, save it for the picture taking now." She said before pulling her in and letting her get on it as they relocated to a better place. "Yeah killjoy." She said as she went on out and walked towards the more interesting land formation and even to a place that looked better. As the people were getting some last minute pictures as most of the tents were taken out and that some leaving behind messages.

Some were the fact that they had craved on in their names and their messages. One of being was the iconic. "I was here." cravings a tidbit of history if they actually did well and they had several descendances to come in and see the landfall they went on and tried in return. Thought as it so happen the promise crossing was about to start with most of the crew that stayed behind would cross the sea arch.

As they slowly sailed under it into the perfect picture as a photographer would take as he set up shop just in front of the sea arch waiting for it to stop right in the middle and be in the perfect place for the picture.

Using a polaroid camera to capture the shot which immediately printed out the picture after it was taken. One that the Jazzy would take a look on and nod approvingly as he gestured to all of them that it was done as they cheered out. As the film was rare and they only have so little for the time being. Though with what they have now it was perfect especially when it captured the beach filled with the returning settlers telling their story and that even in the end of times people still enjoyed the sands and took the time to have some fun.

All in all the embarkment was eventful with many were just excited to get back while others were eager to get another break but, knew that the chances were quite small. Knowing that they did this because it was fitting to celebrate the fact that if there was an atoll then it was clear that larger land masses to settle and build anew a new home for not just them but, also towards those back home.

As they were all cheery and quite eager as they board their ships as they soon enough blew their horns and signalled that they were all preparing to get back out to sea eager to be towed by the coming ship. Of course the fleet's mascot was waiting nearby as it waited for its owner whom saw it resting on top of a sea stack as it waited for the fisherman that tamed it to get back to see as they saw its body. One that was rather rubbery and quite wide and while it had large flippers it seems that these creatures looked to be seal back on earth. As its body was large and its neck while long was wide and leathery as well.

While its head was weird with it having several holes for its sense of smell and that of hearing as due to its absence of eyes reveal that it was able to hear and know the scent of its prey and companion with ease. While its namesake was quite evident when it opened its mouth revealing a large collection of kris like teeth which serve to keep and cut its food easily without much problems as it hunts within the depths of the waters.

As when its owner yelled out its name that bubbles would dive down and eventually went towards his boat letting him see that he was also eager to hunt with him. In a way being a monstrous water puppy as it waited for its master to come back as it had memorized his voice and his scent making it quite loyal as even before he got to his boat that it had already had a bloody mess in his mouth likely a meal before the voyage as he was patted by the young fishermen as despite the monstrous look the people were quite messed at the gory display but, had come to embrace it as part of the fleet. Thought some did have their qualms with the creature they all were glad and happy to have one of the locals welcome.

As eventually the sails were set and everyone had gotten on board. With the skeletal crew now resting after the night shift. As they left the Atoll as they were all happy with how they were able to take some time to rest and take care of themselves for a change one that made it easier for them to plan for the future as the when the ships had attached themselves to the Tamaraw that it was time to venture forth. As when the horn bellow out the time of what was to come with Bubbles going back to the waters to prevent himself from being hurt by the blast like last time.

As everyone was quite content with the others were already prepping their work stations. As after some time at sea many had come to take in jobs and see to take in their own jobs at that. As some of the children were being taught within a secured and large ship called the floating school. Which was where they were taught if they were not old enough to be apprentices who closely followed the workers or their tutors with work and are allowed to help out as well to justify the project.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

As after some time they were allowed to take on better jobs and help out afterwards in return. A system that was set up to fill in the gaps within their workforce and ensure that they have enough skilled workers. Along with workers that could switch professions if need be in the future as they were focusing on keeping themselves flexible and able when the time demands it to be. As this allowed them to juggle around their responsibilities and keep the fleet in shape for any threats and scenarios in the future to come.

With many of them starting to adapt to the waters and even more so started to become more adept in keeping themselves safe in such an environment. As the Badjao were diving in deeper and deeper yet found ways to keep themselves safe and even avoid injuries. With them being known as the sea nomads they were naturally incline to the ways of the water but, to their amazement the waters here were quite wonderful in return. As strange fishes were everywhere from cubes of gels, to massive ones that roam around like it was nothing. To crabs to unbelievable sizes as evident by the large hollowed remains within the sea spires they now call their second homes.

Clinging to the rocky surfaces and even able to hunt for the strange creatures that call it their home. Some easy to look at and some outright horrible like the horror rocks which were ambush predators who blended within the rocks with ease. While looking like the combination of a eel and that of rocky lobster as it lunged towards the spear fishers. While nobody had died to such an attack the bite of one was quite painful to the point that it left the brave fishers wriggling in pain and out of it from a few days.

Yet despite this the meat that it provided was otherworldly making it quite the sought after meal by the cooks since it didn't need much to cook. While the engineers found it quite the boon for materials as its rocks were coated in a strange ores that didn't rust and was quite strong if refined. While they had made their first batch the process was too costly for the ship's remaining fuel supply hence, the pause put on it for the time being. Yet as Robin found out she could work the mineral to replace some to incorporate this new mineral they call the water iron. Which was perfect and valuable for the colony's development as new materials were vital and needed for the construction of the initial structures meant to keep everyone safe and happy.

All the while the ships were still well tended to and afloat. As many of them were improvised in nature but, in comparison to the others back home these were the most stable. Of course the people back home were building up better ships to ferry them across when they do come home but, as Jazzy soon enough saw from the logs that the engines were already starting to show some wear and tear. A by product of the hasty construction and the tight deadlines along with the unexpected rush to get to the other side. All in all it was quite telling that the situation while stable was becoming more dire in return. Along with no suitable landmasses to settle it was becoming all the more problematic for them.

As he was with Carl at the time as they plan and report to one another. With Carl seeing that the ammunition and weapon problems were being addressed while he made sure that the fleet was stable or able to complete its mission. "Weapons are stable and we can afford to halt production to preserve the fuel for it." He spoke out knowing that they could keep the generators stable for the time being. "Most of the space for the workshop is for the generators but, if want to start harvesting the water iron then we should get to land first. We can take out two of the generators to power the colony and then repurpose the space into that of a sorting centre along with a storage room to study the materials in depth." He said knowing that they could do well to adapt to this world since there were plenty of things that they needed to replace knowing that the properties of this world was not of their old one.

"A whole lot of rediscovering to ensure that we have all the advantages we need to make this work." He spoke out as he looked at him and sighed. "Plenty of it and plus we don't even know if we would have volcanoes for sulphur that was needed for gun powder. "For now it might be better to start switching to gunpowder less weaponry. Air guns, pressure guns, or even crossbows if need be. " He spoke out knowing that they could convert the guns for such a purpose and that they could do well with switching to it to save up on resources and power. "It won't be as good but, a crossbow is close to a gun in all but, recoil and with our engineers we can create one that could be enough with what we need." He spoke out knowing that guns would be far too much for the time being.

"Might be but, for security we need to keep enough for a prolong conflict for the future we don't have any guarantee that the world fleet was not on them and that they might need to repurpose things. "Our naval guns are still usable and from the looks of it that we have the shells that we need to make them count." He said knowing that after the festivities that they have to go back to work. "Shutting down the furnaces would help out with the fuel problems and the engineers have made enough to keep us going until we find land." The commander said knowing that this would be wise. To make sure that they ration things now and make sure that they have enough for the future when they have boots on the ground.

"Fish would be our primary source of food but, to be able to cultivate our old world plants would be helpful in keeping us fed of course the more we discover the difference of the soil here the better." He added as the two were looking at reports and making sure that things were manageable not just now but, for the future as well. As it did help that they alleviated the people's worry with the one day rest it did cut into their stores alot but, having the doctors and nurses in tip top shape was something that they needed.

While the engineers having some time to think had made their own projects that was designed to help them out in the long run but, all with various degrees of acceptance and points of which to be pause. As due to the tight resource outlook it was quite telling that they needed to conserve and to save up. "Yeah would be requesting them to switch to a more manageable weapon while I turn my people into rangers for the time being with them helping out in hunting with the newly made weapons.

"Hurts that we haven't seen anything close to a tree as well." He chimes in knowing that they had a large lack of wood to help out with the resource shortage and how they been going to their iron stores heavily due to it. "We would have to improvise if the trees aren't a thing here but, if we have creatures that can actually funnel minerals with them then it complicates and help out things as hunting similar creatures would be vital." He mutters in return as he soon enough looked at the ship's computer with most just relying on technology to make reports with them being able to conserve wood as they relayed to them about various proposals and reports one of which helped them out greatly as they were able to organize and list down the priorities of each request allowing to make sure that they focus on the ones that yielded the best results and help limit resource losses.

"How is the creature?" Jazzy spoke out as he looked Carl which looked at him to rest his eyes from looking at the tablet and approving the requests forms from his men. "The kristooth is fine rather its quite helpful but, we haven't seen any of its kind suggesting that they are solitary in nature and likely would with us for the entire trip or if it finds a mate or a home." He said seeing that it was a strange creature. One that didn't see the world but, hears and smells it better then any of them could. "Also it seems that its still a juvenile with it being able to grow larger." He told him knowing that Gabriella had taken a look at the creature and saw that it was still growing. "A sea monster as a pet." He chuckled at the thought knowing that the fisherman had been quite lucky to snag such a catch.

"I see and its calm?" He asked knowing that it was already big in nature and it was able to sustain itself due to the ocean being bountiful. "Yep far from what a sea monster should be but, its bonded with him and its quite calm with the others." He continued as he sighed knowing that the work was only getting more and more and he was starting to yawn wanting to rest up but, couldn't due to the volume of it all. "Another sleepless night but, yeah its better then sinking so lets just do it." The admiral spoke as he chuckled at how they were going to need to pitch in all to make sure that everything worked well and that all of them were all up and eager for what was to come.

"Its times like this that I would want some coffee." he said teasing at his friend as he looked at the bottle of caffeine hanging from his neck. "Too bad indeed." He replied as he sighed knowing that he was still the same old as he was before all of this. "Wait until we get to land so better start charting better." He returned to let her know just how eager he was to start planting for a better life in return. As the two would have the time to figure out on what to do and plan out things as they iron out the plans and even streamline some of the processes to save up on things and make sure that they were able to last enough as despite all of this they haven't found suitable land for settlement. As aside from a few islands it was clear that they were struggling due to this as they were burning through their supplies. Yet as it so happened he would get an emergency call from the ship's internal system requesting his presence only for him to accept it only for one of his aides reporting in.

"We're under attack!" He yelled out making him look at him as he took some time to think about it before he soon enough nodded and stood up as he relayed orders while he gotten his things ready with Carl soon enough rushing out to get his men ready. As the Tamaraw had finally gotten its first encounter.
