With the naming ceremony around the corner, there was a lot of hustle and noise around the mansion. All preparations were being made to ensure everything went smoothly and the guests were taken care of.
With the Druex family hosting it and with the added influence of the Draconet clan, guests from noble families and all prominent people were expected to visit the ceremony.
Chris was being taught all the mannerisms and honorifics to use while addressing the guests. He found this all too tiresome but didn't have any option as Roger just wouldn't budge
The naming ceremony held a lot of importance, as it decided what class one will be assigned to. Only wealthy families could host this in their mansions, others will seek the help of the local priest to identify the class. The priests were mostly level three mages who served the church, with the Supreme mage as the head of the church. The supreme mage was a level one mage having authority over other archmages in position.
For Chris's naming ceremony even the Supreme mage was expected to visit.
Since the day he opened his eyes to a completely new world, he had lived each day trying to learn and understand the world better and better. He would wonder what is the meaning behind all of this, having a conscious that knew that he was reborn and at the same time not remembering anything other than his name, and soon even that will be also taken away from him.
"So really what is the point?"
With days coming closer and closer he didn't even have time to feel bad about himself, there was always something keeping him busy.
The naming ceremony in itself was very simple, Chris would be asked to step into the magic circle drawn by the priest, the magic circle will be connected to the five items representing each element, a jug of water, a bowl of soil, air inside a glass chamber, fire burning on wood, and a small furry animal called lewt.
Jug of Water - High affinity - If there is movement in the jug of water, a high potential mage is known to freeze the water inside the jug. Most water affinity mages end up being healers.
Bowl of Soil - High affinity - If there is movement in the bowl of soil, they are considered to have an affinity to earth. Strong warriors mostly come from this affinity.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
The air inside a glass chamber - High affinity - If the feather kept inside the chamber moves, high-level mages are also known to break the glass chamber from within. They mostly end up becoming assassins.
Fire burning on wood - High affinity - If there is a change in the intensity of the fire, high-class mages would burn the wood to a crisp in seconds. They are often the most destructive of all mages.
Beast - High affinity - If the lewt starts reacting by calling out to the person. They are the ones who have some part of animal blood in them. They end up becoming mostly beast tamers, forming a very important part of the scouting and logistics of the kingdom.
William had the fire affinity and had his unique magic also derived from fire. Sarah on the other hand had an affinity towards the earth. Sarah also hailing from the Draconet clan had a minor affinity to beasts.
Chris was expected to have a high affinity to the fire element, due to two reasons. One was that his father's family for generations had an affinity toward the fire. Two Chris was yet to develop his scale-like markings that the Draconet clan will start showing at the age of three. Though Sarah was deep inside sad that her son didn't show the Draconet traits, she never showed this to him. She only wished for him to be happy.
The day of the ceremony arrived and Guests in great number started arriving.
For the Dreux family hosting also meant making new political relations and increasing William's chances of becoming an Archmage. The visit of the Supreme Mage was a sign of support directly from the church. The ceremony would be for a very small duration, the alliance made after the ceremony was why most of them had come for.
William sat in his room, waiting to be called, he was nervous as it happened to be his first time meeting so many people. For some reason, he never had visits from his other relations he always had Roger and other servants to give him company. All of them found time to encourage him and give him some pep talk telling him that they were confident he will be a high-class mage.
It was time.
Roger opens the door, Chris gets up and follows him, he keeps his stride prideful as is expected from him. He enters the main banquet hall and feels the weight of the silence, he could feel all eyes on him. He doesn't dare look anywhere else and looks straight ahead, where he sees William and Sarah standing beside a heavy-looking man wearing a bright red robe, he looks straight at Chris, who immediately changes his gaze, the Supreme Mage.
He looks at the priest standing in front of the magic circle, with the five elements in front, Chris couldn't help but imagine that it looked like the palm of a hand. He looks at the lewt confined inside the smaller magic circle looking at Chris with wide-open eyes, making Chris feel bad for the furry animal.
Putting all thoughts aside, he listens to the priest and enters the magic circle. The Priest speaks out the incantation.......
The world turns into darkness....and his last thoughts before going blank..." I Remember".
