Larka

The next day Chris wakes up and tries to recollect what happened last night. It all made sense to him now on why William acted the way he did.

With William trying to elevate himself to an archmage level, the naming ceremony was a very crucial part of his plan. Inviting all the nobles and aristocrats to show off the prowess of the Druex family and how secure the future looked with William, a genius of his generation, and Chris a rare mix of very strong bloodline from the Druex family and the Draconet clan.

With no visible changes in the elements and losing consciousness, Chris was immediately considered as a nonmagic user, which was unheard of, even the common citizens of this world held a small affinity to some element.

The proud Druex family suddenly looked weak having a nonmagic user in the main branch, to make it worse, the next family head. He remembered what William had said "Only the Strong can lead", in a world where magic was so important, the one without magic, was considered the lowest of low.

William's attempt to become an Archmage took a very serious hit. Even having the Supreme Mage attend it, things would have turned worse for William, no wonder he reacted it that way.

Thinking of Sarah, he imagined her conflict of choosing William or Chris, maybe there was something more to it, which he didn't know yet.

Chris couldn't yet figure out what he felt about all this. Since he remembered Eva, things have changed for him, he felt more distant from the world and only wanted to meet her. It really didn't bother him if he was the next family head or not, he just wanted to go back.

After that eventful night, things took their natural course with William often out of the mansion. Sarah was mostly in her chambers, on occasional moments she would visit Chris. She would avoid talking about the night. Even with all that happened he couldn't hate Sarah, even towards William he didn't feel any hate, he just felt indifferent.

With nothing to do about Eva, he allowed himself to be distracted by the routine. He continued his studies with Roger. He never spoke to Roger about that night, neither did Roger say anything to him, they went on as if nothing happened.

The other servants continued treating him with sympathetic eyes.

After his studies, he would roam outside, in the estate surrounding the mansion.

One day while sitting under a tree, he felt something touching his legs, he immediately jumped back, to his surprise he noticed a small furry animal with a long body looking at him, it had white fur and some extension on its forehead, he immediately recognised the animal, it was a Lewt, he had seen a lewt only once, during his naming ceremony "Was it the same Lewt ?"

Chris tried shooing it away, but it just followed him. Trying to come closer and closer, Chris realised the futility in his attempt and allowed the Lewt to come closer to him, for some reason Chris didn't feel afraid of it, he knew it wouldn't harm him.

The lewt climbed Chris and sat on top of his shoulder. Seeing how comfortable the Lewt was, Chris didn't try to shake it off.

While heading back, he saw Roger coming towards him. Seeing Chris with Lewt on top of his shoulder, Roger remarked, "Master Philip, please be careful with that Lewt they are known to get aggressive without tamers around". Master Philip? the name felt very strange for Chris, that was the name he was given post the naming ceremony, he didn't feel it belonged to him.

Brushing the concern aside, Chris asked "Roger is it the same Lewt that was there at the naming ceremony?", "Yes Master Philip, it was missing since morning, I have reprimanded the beast tamer for his lapse of duty, please let me take it back".

To this immediately the Lewt gave away a hissing sound, Chris calmed the Lewt down by touching his head, somehow he knew the Lewt reacted to what Roger just said.

"You will do no such thing, Roger, I shall keep this Lewt as my pet". "As you wish Master Philip" replied Roger.

Chris thought of a name before walking off with the Lewt on his shoulder. "Henceforth you shall be called Larka my dear Lewt". Deep down realising maybe he made his first friend in this new world.
