Human assassins

The two sat at a table on board a ship in open space. The room was meant solely for meetings such as this. Grotak had this room made knowing he would be doing these meeting regularly, after all, it was a given in his line of work.

“So human, this packet here contains all the information necessary for you to complete this request of mine. I know your fees are known for being higher than most, so we’ve prepared an adequate sum for you in preparation of good news.” Grotak said as he poured a glass of his favorite drink, silvian tear berry juice. The juice is naturally alcoholic and is preferred by most species, but humans barely notice the alcohol, in fact they say it’s so little they even allow their young to drink it before bed to help them sleep.

The human assassin took the packet and opened it. There was no noticeable change, not that you could see his face. He wore a hood that seemed to completely obscure his face in shadow, there was a blackness in the hood matched only by the void of space. The Galaxy at large only knew him as the silent death. He only ever spoke of business and those who have heard his voice refuse to tell others what it sounds like from sheer terror that he may target them for giving away anything that may help to identify him.

“I will need to be payed up front for something of this caliber.” Said the human in a gravely voice.

Grotak was taken aback, “sorry but don’t we usually pay after the completion?” Sweat starting to form on his skin.

“Usually yes,” the human leaned back in the chair, “but you want me to kill not only a political rival but also their human guards. Anything involving humans is extra, per human. And political targets while not as difficult as humans are still harder than your average target. So for this I need payment up front for some supplies and as an insurance to know you won’t just jumó system to run out on the payment.”

Grotak had hood back a swear, he was intending on stiffing him. There was no way he could afford this man properly, it would drain everything he had. “I’m sorry mr. Uh, death? But we don’t do that here. We pay after proof of completion is provided. And frankly no matter how strong you are I doubt you would be leaving here alive if you tried to take it by force.” Grotak grinned thinking he might intimidate this measly assassin into doing the job first.

“Oh no my dear alien friend,” the human growled, “you pay me first, or neither of us leave this ship alive.”

Grotak swallowed hard, “b-but what would be the point of that? Are you really willing to die over some money?”

The human barked out a loud laugh, “HA! You’re funny. I’ll kill other people for money, what makes you think I wouldn’t die for it? I’ve been on borrowed time since I first killed a sentient being. If I can die taking out a bastard like you with me, we’ll, I think that would be just fine.”

Grotak swallowed again, he had no choice anymore. Everyone in the Galaxy knew of this man’s prowess, even humans fear him. He tapped his com pad a few times and watched as five million credits disappeared leaving his account sorely lacking.

The human glanced at his com pad and stood up turning to leave. As he was about to open the door he paused, “oh by the way senator, I think you’re mistaken about something with this transaction.”

Grotak started to shake, “w-what’s that?”

“You thought you were paying me to kill someone else. But that’s not the case, I’ll kill whoever you ask me to, entirely for free. You’re paying me to NOT kill you.”
