Humanity had always wondered if they were alone. We’re there aliens somewhere in the dark abyss? Would they contact us? Would we need to develop faster than light travel first? What are the prerequisites? Is there a precursor race that was the first and helped to guide the rest of us? And if so when would they finally find us?
Humans have always been a curious species, taking a mere sixty six years from the first successful in atmosphere flight to leaving their orbit. It was a huge accomplishment for the entire species, but for some reason the development of space flight all but came to a halt after that. It took a staggering three hundred years before they would develop their first FTL engine in the year twenty two sixty nine.
With the new engine having been developed humanity immediately began to populate anything they could in nearby space, moons, mars, sufficiently sized asteroids, they would live on almost anything. Other humans decided now was the time to search for sentient life and set out never to be seen again. The whole of humanity hurled their resources into a group called NASA that went to work to develop better FTL drives for searching the Galaxy, and the governments agreed that they would all work to create better scanning equipment to be able to remotely scan planets so they could search the stars for others faster. Nobody wanted to wait a few hundred or even thousand years to know if aliens were real.
And so this continued for almost one hundred years until the year twenty three sixty when the now unified planet earths leader sent out a message that overtook every broadcasting device owned by a human, televisions, radios, holo-decks, smart watches, smart phones, and any other device capable of communicating in any way with earth.

“My fellow humans, long have we wished to find another race to explore with us. Long have we searched for another among the stars. And I am glad to announce that today we have an answer to the age old question of, are we alone. We used to wonder if there was a whole community waiting for us to get some specific technology or cultural milestone to be able to join, or if there was some mysterious precursor race that we may learn from.” His practiced professional face faltered for a moment before continuing.
“We have searched over one hundred billion planets thanks to the help from multiple organizations and individuals who dedicated their lives to the search. And we now have a full scan of what we believe is every single planet in our galaxy.” His face lifting up into a small smile at saying this, it truly is an awe inspiring accomplishment.
“The scans of these planets show that there is plenty of planets that harbor life on them be it from anything as big as the mega fauna we used to have to the simple microbial life being the only thing on the planet.” His smile disappearing rather suddenly after saying this.
“We are alone.” The leader of earth spoke solemnly. At this many people across the galaxy wept in sadness at the loss of friends we had never met, that had never existed to begin with.
“We have found nothing in the way of other intelligent life. No ruins, no lost ships, not even any radio signals that weren’t our own.” He closed his eyes, “and so it falls to us. We are the first, we are the precursors. We will seed the galaxy, we will raise others to join us. Our scientists have created multiple ‘seeds’ that we may use to sow life onto habitable planets and help create our own galactic neighbors. So if anyone is willing to help us bring life into this galaxy please sign up to be a watcher.”
