The five survivors of the Swordfall, all in various forms of injury with end of life symptoms, leaned in for whatever The Mediator was going to say.
The pool was bubbling and was still glowing, but the blood outweighed the glowing crystal waters.
The Mediator began to read.
"I, the Mediator, now announce, the unification of our kingdoms. That the war of the houses is no longer needed, and this is the last Swordfall to occur. Alliances must be made, families joined, and the kingdom be unified."
Joab kicked his feet in the pool in anger.
"You could've spared all of these men!"
Joab then turned towards Abner, who was slowly getting up, blood flowing from his chest.
"What did you know, you coward?!"
Abner took a breath, holding his bleeding chest.
"All I know is that my king is dead."
The four were taken a back. The Mediator's mouth dropped.
"You lie," Asahel spoke.
"I do not," Abner said, wincing in pain. "One of the messengers came to me. He and his house had been murdered by their own, in order to present themselves to your king. They did not know of this decree the Mediator just read. I knew nothing of the unification. But I did know my king was dead and I still came here to fight and die for his house and honor. Something you would have never done, Joab."
"You know nothing of me," Joab said, turning away.
"I know there cannot be two of us," Abner said, voice becoming stronger.
"I'm sure you already have the job," Joab snapped back.
"As for the next scroll," The Mediator said, rolling it out.
Abishai pulled his spear and threw it at The Mediator.
It slammed into him, through his body, and pinned him to the wall.
He dropped the scrolls, and looked down at the spear pinning him to the wall in horror, and slowly died.
The room started to rumble, but no one noticed.
It came closer and closer.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
But the emotions and anger was too hot.
Abner limped away from the pool.
"Where are you going, Abner?" Asahel yelled.
"I am going to die," Abner yelled back. "Is that not enough for you?"
"No!" Asahel replied.
Asahel turns to knife Abner down, but Beniah slowly stood before him.
Not even a fair fight.
"Move," Asahel said.
"You'll have to kill me first," Beniah replied.
"Kill I shall," Asahel pulled his daggers.
"Asahel. Stop," Abishai said. "It is done. Read the scroll."
Joab observed the scene, but too great joy watching Abner crumble away, bleeding himself to death.
The rumble was louder and louder.
None could ignore it now.
"What is that?"Abner finally said.
The giant's timing was impeccable.
The walls exploded and the ceiling caved in, as the GIANT has landed upon them.
It screamed and roared amongst the falling rocks and the splashing water. Beniah grabbed Abner and pushed him out of the way as the giant stomped around, screaming.
Joab ran to attack the giant, who then knocked him away with his huge arms, sending him soaring into the water and ultimately, the wall.
Abishai looked for his spear, pinned against the wall. The giant finally spoke, seeing the killer of his kind before him.
"Abishai! Killer of giants! Murderer of my people!"
The giant winded up and hurled a large chain it had around his chest at Abishai.
He jumped into the water as it swung over his head and dented the wall.
The giant then slammed his feet into the pool, trying to crush Abishai, as he swam through the bodies and blood.
Beniah pulled Abner up and lead him away.
"You don't know what is coming!" The giant declared.
Asahel ran and tried to climb up the giant, but the beast grabbed him off his back like an ant and tossed him into the water, then screamed into the air a victorious yell.
"My family will be avenged! Our kings will be avenged!"
Abishai emerged from the water and grabbed the spear, pulling it from the wall as the Mediator fell off it. He turned towards the giant.
The towering creature looked from its victorious scream.
Abishai hurled his spear directly into the giant's head. It impaled the giant and it yelled, and fell into the pool with a huge SPLASH.
All was done. The pool was destroyed. The water was flooded with bodies. The walls crumbled, and the stairway imploded.
The three brothers looked at the death around them.
Joab slowly walked towards the Mediator's scrolls floating in the water. He gently picked them up and untied them.
