The call

The call

Luo Si turned towards the crowd. Marching forward with a resolute face, her hands behind her back.

"Such an undisciplined girl. Do you have no respect towards the professional? This is not a place for country bumpkins. This is a case of life and death." Goo Se pointed the board towards her, showing his authority.

The crowd of doctors agreed in union.

"Silence. The executioners don't talk." Her voice was not loud or emotionally swayed in any way, but it was very domineering and clear.

Provoked by Dr. Goo Se's insult she walked up to him, looking at him like looking through air.

The secretary jumped in front of her Boss and took in a fighting position. She yelled, "Insolent. How dare you talk to Mr. Goo Se this way. RODRIGUES! Apprehend her."

She was slightly caught off as she did not perceive the expected heavy footsteps, but an uncertain 'Umm'. She quickly regained her focus only to realize that the incoming girl was no longer in front of her.

Luo Si had passed the arrogant doctor and secretary, while spreading her arms from behind her back.

A board and a pen appeared in her hands, while Dr. Goo Se screamed in frustration and realization, "WHAT THE… my pen and board!"

She moved the pen over the board, drawing without care for the analytics, while changing her direction towards the infuriated father.

"You must be the Mr. Qi. Well, love does make blind, or else you would not listen to this idiot. Anyway, if you really want to save your daughter, then keep her alive until 9 o'clock tomorrow and follow the instruction. "A disinterested voice reached the fathers ears and a clip board was pressed against his stomach.

An infuriated and perplexed face took shape on Mr. Qi's head.

"What does a brat like you know, you don't know the pain she suffers. Unlike the great Dr. Goo Se you know nothing in the field of medicine." His tone shaking, as he held onto the clipboard.

Luo SI maintained her pace, stopping on the threshold and answered. "Indeed, I don't know medicine… but I have seen her will to live. My deed is done. The change of fate resides in your hands. But be aware of your words frail man."

The secretary dashed towards the door but could only widen her eyes in disbelieve. The infiltrator had already disappeared into the gathered crowd of civilians. "She is gone?!"

Mr. Qi weirdly looked at the board in his hands.

In frustration of being ignored Dr. Goo Se made his way towards the tube and machineries and savagely spit out. "Mr. Qi, how about we overlook the small evildoer? As amiable as I am, I will even do the honor and put an end to this right now."

He was about to unplug a cable, but before he could pull the plug Mr. Qi heard a faint change in the beeping rhythm. "WAIT!" He roared

Goo Se was now even more irritated and angry. "Mr. Qi, are you implying that some peasant girl's words have more weight than mine?" The words of an international praised doctor, defied by a country bumpkin. How ridiculous.

"Dr. Goo Se. I just mean, that there is no harm in waiting a little longer." The father touched on the glassed station.

He might have hallucinated it, but when he looked at his daughter, he perceived a small smile on her lips.

"Alright, I see how things are. If you want to wait, fine. you sure have the right as her guardian." Prof. Dr. Goo Se let go of the cable. Stepping up to Mr. Qi he snatched his pen off the board. "However, you will do this alone. I am leaving. NICHELLE!"

The dark-skinned woman in white, loyal to her employer, gave a disdainful look towards Mr. Qi before accompanying her boss and men in black. "And we, two, need to hold a deep conversation about my safety young lady." She paled hearing Goo Se complain.

The head doctor of the Guilin hospital patted the distressed father on his shoulder. "I know it's hard to accept reality, but Dr. Goo Se is right. He is a world renown doctor after all and this would have been an ideal chance to get on his good side." Afterwards he ran out of the room to catch up with his idol.

Mr. Qi took a deep breath to calm down. He looked back at Luo Si's drawing. 'Take her outside and put her in a white cylinder.' Not knowing what was meant by white cylinder, he still hoped for a miracle.

It was already late when Luo Si arrived home. Today was quite an eventful day. Passingly greeting her chocolate eating brother and finding an envelopment placed on her desk, she knew it was still not over.

Her phone was ringing.

'Dad' was written on the display of her cell phone. She let out a short sigh.

"Hi dad." She answered the call. Usually, one would shed tears after not having communicated with their parents for a long time. But if you were treated like nothing but a useless burden that would later be extort for moneys sake, it would feel no different from a heartless employment contract.

"Don't 'hi' me Luo Si. My boss, Mr. Ren contacted me saying my next check would be less than expected. Something about a dirtied tuxedo and you breaking up with Liuxian. Luo Si, tomorrow you will go to Liuxian and kowtow to him in apology. Dumb girl, what were you thinking. At least he didn't mention your recommendation."

"If this is all you have to say, then I have to disappoint you. I will not apologies tomorrow and will not study business. I have decided to enroll in sports." Luo Si said without any hesitation.

"LUO SI! Did you fall on your head? Sports, can that even be studied? Listen to me, those who study sports are barbarians who cannot enroll in the likes of law and medicine because they have their brains elsewhere. That's an absolute no-go. Do you hear me Luo Si, or else I will stop paying for the apartment?" Hong Li, Luo Si's father was nearly exploding on the other side of the call.

Luo Si balled a fist hearing her father's demands. She had always been scared of her father, since childhood. Whenever her father came home at night he would complain and let out his frustration in heavy drunkenness. Her heart, eaten by guilt whenever her father criticized on how much she and her brother costed him and how hard he had to work just for their amusement and that he never had such options in his childhood.

However, as Hong Luo Si grew in SR and was hurt over and over, she realized, life was a gift. She never asked for it and neither did she have to repay it. She remembered that when her brother had passed away long ago, her parents had shown the audacity to rely on her achievements as part of the alliance. She had visited her parents from time to time, always with a case of money. Every time she did, all she saw their eyes wander towards the briefcase and even got them to spit out that they had not lost a single cent thanks to the government's child support, cutting ties with them for good. In comparison, her master felt more like her real father than her blood.

"You may be my blood, but I will do what I think is best for myself and Lau Su."

"Argh… you little," Hong Li nearly popped a vein.

"Let me," a feminine voiced from the background, taking the phone from Hong Li.

"Hi darling it's me. It is so good to hear from you. It felt like ages past. But you were never like this before. It is good that you are growing, but you still have so much to learn. How is Lau Su doing, you are not fighting with each other. Good. Listen, you know your father can't handle stress so please be a good girl and do as daddy tells you and nobody will be hurt, ok?" her mother's console gave a very hospital impression. Yet, Luo Si only noticed the underlying poison in Luo Mei's tone. It was just like talking to a poor version of Liuxian and Lin Rong.

"Hello mom. No mom. If there is nothing else, I will hang up now."

"HONG…" beep*

Luo Si had ended the call.

Sigh*

"Technology. Able to end a conversation with just a click. In SR I would have been hunted over countries for ending such a conversation midway."
