Chapter 6: Making Peace

Louria Kingdom.

The news of Louria's surrender came as a blow to everyone in the kingdom, especially since it was only a few days after the Qua-Toyne invasion had begun.

Obviously there were protests in all the cities against Prime Minister Maus' decision, however those protests were easily suppressed because everyone with the prestige and power that could unify that discontent and achieve a coup d'état was dead.

However, this surrender was not so bad, after all, Louria still held a large territory and a considerable part of its army. These soldiers decided to follow the new government and accept peace for two reasons: First, because of the instability of the country after the death of the king, they feared that some group of pro-Parlpadian nobles would take power while they were away. The second reason was because of the show of force that Argentina gave, annihilating entire armies and fleets without any difficulty.

Another thing that made this surrender easier to swallow was that the only conditions the Argentines imposed on them were the opening of trade and the establishment of diplomatic relations, and that Louria would not have to pay war reparations to anyone.

Although obviously developing Louria was not a priority for Argentina, as was the case with the fertile Qua-Toyne land or the oil rich Quila, so if they wanted Argentina to develop and modernize the infrastructure of the kingdom they had to deliver gold, a lot of gold that went into the Argentine reserves which served to support the value of the new Argentine peso.

Getting that gold was a problem for the prime minister, it was a process that took time to be accepted by the citizens but in the end Louria had no choice but to open trade with Qua-Toyne in order to get the gold to finance their development, slowly making the relations between the two countries normalize.

"What do you mean you guys aren't going to pay what you owe us?" Said the Parlpadian envoy who was in a meeting with Maus.

"As you have heard, the Kingdom of Louria cancels its debt that it has with the continent of Filiades, we also put an end to all military and technological cooperation agreements between both countries." The prime minister said.

"Stupid barbarians! do you really think they're going to get away with it without any punishment? You had planned to reunify the continentt by the gods! Are you really such an idiot to retire after a few setbacks?!"

"Our decision is firm, we are not going to become a puppet state of yours or fall back into your trap debs."

"And what about this policy of unifying the continent?! Without our help it will be impossible for you!"

"The unification of the continent... it is impossible with or without the help of Parlpadia, from now on our foreign policy will focus on the survival and development of the territory."Maus knew that he was betweenathe sword an the wall, on the side of Parlpadia he would be forced to continue the expansionist policy of the former king and face Argentina, on the other hand if he sided with Argentina he would have to face the retaliation of Parlpadia, but after the reports of the fighting he already decided which side to support.

"Survival? It's funny that you say that when you're feuding with us, the undisputed superpower of the third civilization!"

"Your military attachés who were present will know very well that you already have competence in terms of power, believe me, this was also frustrating for me, but Argentina has brought this entire continent into its sphere of influence in just a few months, doing what you could not do after decades of work."

"Argentina? Do you really think that other barbarians from the uncivilized areas can stand up to us?! I could understand this change of attitude if we were talking about Mu or Mirishial, even Leifor. But choosing to be under the sphere of influence of other barbarians instead of ours believing that they will be able to defend you... pathetic.

"Think what you will, but I suggest you try to find out more about Argentina before taking any rash action."

Principality of Qua-toyne

"This is unacceptable! Moiji's forces were destroyed before Argentina could have sent its iron wyverns, and now the Argentines are asking us not to demand war reparations!" The minister of military affairs was very angry with Agustín, the Argentine diplomat. "Our joint forces between you and us could have taken Jin-Hark in a very short time, we could have demanded much more!"

"Although I agree that a peace as soon as possible is best, I must agree with my compatriot." Who was speaking was Rinsui, minister of foreign affairs. "Louria is a nation that seeks the exinction of demi-humans and a mentality of racial superiority. The best thing we could do is to destroy them so that they will never again be a threat in the future."

"Mr. Agustín, I don't understand why you are being so lenient with them either. They planned to slaughter innocent people, men, women and children alike." The one speaking now was Prime Minister Kanata.

Agustín was listening to the complaints of the ministers. He sympathized with the demi-humans and agreed that Louria should be punished for his crimes. However he was not representing the interests of Qua-Toyne but those of Argentina, after a few moments to relax and keep a cool head he opened his mouth.

"It is curious that you speak of massacres of civilians but have made no attempt to evacuate or reinforce Gim, even though the defenders have repeatedly asked for your help."

"That place was indefensible, the best we could do was to retreat to advantageous terrain, besides we asked the population of Gim to evacuate ." Explained the military minister.

"That does not explain why you did not evacuate the area even though you had military personnel in the region that could have helped in the evacuation, taking into account that you all knew that they would attack through Gim, why did all the evacuation effort remain in a simple message?" The Argentine diplomat counterattacked again.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

"I don't like where this conversation is going, Mr. Ambassador." Rinsui knew what Agustin was getting at.

"You used the Gim population as bait! You wanted our country to intervene more directly and for that you were going to let them slaughter an entire city!"

Saying that, there was a great uproar among the diplomats and ministers.

"That's barbaric!"

"You can't say such slander!"

"You must repent of what you said!"

"Calm down everyone!" Prime Minister Kanata was trying to bring order before this discussion turned physical. "Ambassador Agustin, do you have any way to back up your accusation?"

"We have reports of how Captain Moiji tried to communicate with HQ repeatedly, however no one was answering him because: we are in an emergency conference. What kind of HQ ignores calls coming from exactly where the enemy is going to attack?!"

"I don't think anyone here wants to continue listening to your conspiracy theories, how would it help Qua-Toyne to allow Gim to be destroyed?" Questioned another minister.

"You know that public opinion is very important in a republic, that way you were looking to shock the Argentine population by using a horrible massacre, that way the president would look immoral and insensitive for allowing this to happen even though he had the power to stop it." Agustín replied angrily.

"Then why didn't your government allow it?! If the people had wanted you to intervene then we could have completely defeated Louria and your leader would have been elected!" With that the war minister had confirmed that they had used Gim as a sacrifice.

"I'll tell you why, because the common people actually don't give a shit what happens elsewhere!" Said the ambassador angrily. "We'd only have a small group busting ourballs with riots demanding that we save the poor demi-humans, but most just want to make ends meet in peace or hope that at some point we'll be returned to our world! I want you to remember this, Argentina decided to help you to protect Argentina's interests, not your interests. We can work together but the moment you decide to go against our interests, especially using such low tactics as using your own population as a sacrifice, we will not hesitate to break ties with your country."

Hearing that, all the ministers fell silent, understanding that continuing with this was worse for them.

"Well, now that the matter about the peace treaty is settled, we must discuss the next step." At that, Agustin passes the prime minister a document.

Kanata reads the title silently, the more he goes through the document the more his face becomes distorted in disbelief.

"T-this is... How did you guys get Louria and Quila to sign this?!" The prime minister was dumbfounded by this four-party treaty.

"Quila will sign anything we put on the table as long as we continue to buy oil and coal and help their population, otherwise they would go back to their previous state of poverty and hunger. As for Louria... they know what will happen if they don't have our help."

The title of that document was the Rodenius Pact, and it consisted in that if a nation outside the Rodenius continent attacked one of the signatories, the rest should enter the war supporting the defender. It was unheard of for Louria to sign since that meant they had to fight alongside Demi-humans, however they knew that Parlpadia was lurking to make them pay for having canceled their foreign debt.

"This makes no sense! Because Argentina would sign something like that with Louria if it is not a secret that Parlpadia has given large loans to Louria and that they were later canceled... Signing something like that is a clear provocation to the Philades superpower. Are they looking for a war with Parlpadia?... No, it is already clear that they prefer not to get into war, I think they want to draw the attention of the civilized worlds by announcing loudly and clearly that they have been able to compete against a superpower and win in the influence game, this will open many doors to Argentina that, otherwise, would have been more difficult to open being considered as a simple country outside the civilized areas." With this reflection Kanata could understand why Louria was not punished so harshly.

If Louria were completely defeated and forced to sign a peace that destroys her country it would have been surprising in the eyes of the world, however the other countries that have not seized the technological power would still believe that Argentina was an uncivilized nation, that although it was very strong in that world it was still not relevant if we talk about the civilized world. However, that after a small demonstration of strength Louria would have decided not only to surrender but to be under the protection of Argentina instead of that of Parlpadia was much more surprising and unprecedented. This news will lead many to wonder why, what is it that Argentina has so that a country does not have to run the risk of reprisals from the superpowers..

And the thing happened like this, the world could not believe that someone had preferred to be under the influence of an unknown country from outside the civilized areas than from the third superpower, all the countries of all the three civilizations began to try to find out who this new nation was.

Esthiran, Parlpadia Empire.

The British diplomats would have arrived at the port of Esthirant thanks to the Vanguard-class submarine that was transported with them, HMS Vanguard, a nuclear submarine.

Both diplomats were amazed by the differences that this city had with Jin-Hark, this world was like traveling through time where each region was at a different moment in history.

"I don't understand, if we have a nuclear submarine, why don't we show it to the Argentines? surely when they see that the Argentines will be silent."Frank proposes to his mentor.

"Because that way they are going to do everything possible to have nuclear weapons also, in addition they would move heaven and earth to prevent this submarine from entering a dry dock for maintenance. Did you forget what happened to that Argentine submarine that went 48 months without a general review? The ARA San Juan, if the Argentines suspect that we have nuclear weapons they will make sure that the same thing happens to the Vanguard," John replied while observing the colorful costumes of the locals.

"But we have nuclear weapons! We can threaten to reduce Buenos Aires to ashes if they try to cross the line!"

"And tell me, genius, how are you going to send the missile to Buenos Aires without the Gobal Positioning System? Or how do you plan to use Celestial Navigation to correct the course of the Trident II missile if it deviates when we know nothing about the stars and celestial bodies of this planet?" His mentor questioned him strongly.

"But we still have the Inertial Navigation, with that we can fire the missile and-."

"For that we should get very close to Buenos Aires, idiot! And if the Argentines know that we have a nuclear submarine they will be patrolling the coasts near their capital permanently! What happens if they discover the submarine and destroy it? or worse, capture the Vanguard?!"He was about to slap Frank, but he held back. "Besides, suppose you succeed and we destroy Buenos Aires and its coastal cities, how do you intend for us to reach the aircraft factory in Córdoba without satellite guidance? The Argentines turn the islands into a wasteland after non-stop bombing, and no matter how many planes we shoot down, they are not going to stop after we have destroyed their capital and killed millions. Do you understand?"

"Y-yes, sir..." Frank hung his head in shame.

"Listen, I know you're saying this so we can maintain our sovereignty, but there are times when you have to keep a low profile even if it seems counterproductive. Our nuclear submarine must be our secret hand, our last resort. Do you understand?"

Frank nodded with his head and then both go to the ministry of foreign affairs of Parlpadia in order to open diplomatic relations. The outcome of this meeting is uncertain and Jonh has come to doubt that friendly relations are possible when he sees how a group of demi-human slaves were sold in a part of the port.

"Slaves from the Kooze region, on offer!"

"It's going to be very difficult to get used to this..."
