Stalker

For a moment, I just stared at the girl hanging on the hook with no life in her. It was like looking at a realistic wax figure. In a way it was quite eerie. My eyes then looked up at the moon which was giving off a bright light, but it was slightly fading? When I look to the west there was a bit of a purple color which meant dawn was approaching finally. It was then I noticed Michael Myers had started moving quite brusquely. From the way he was walking so quickly, it looked like he was running out of time.

Once he had started to walk away, I kept myself at a distance continuing in my own pursuit of this killer. He was like a hound that was on a hunt and I knew who he was hunting for. Because of the recently deceased, Claudette, Kate had received a wound and it is basically a death sentence for her. It was rather unsettling and, in a way, it put me into a panic knowing that he was going after the blonde country singer. The more I continued to stalk the one wearing the blue jumper, I noticed the sky was becoming filled with more purple hues.

From the way, the sky is lighting up, I looked around at the perimeter to notice that the fog was slowly but surely disappearing. It is then I knew, we would no longer be trapped on this property and Michael’s time to hunt was becoming limited. Of course, that was only my assumption. For all I knew, I could be completely wrong. As I got sidetracked from taking in my surroundings again, I had lost sight of The Shape who was able to move so quickly that it’d be like he was never there in the first place. Perhaps, I can protect Kate from her impending doom or maybe she’d be so good at running the killer around that I may be worrying about her for no reason. But for some reason my gut was telling me I had every right to worry. Michael Myers is determined to at least get one more victim before the daylight.

My feet had begun to move more quickly through the fields as I looked for the masked man who always hides his face. If he has been around in the seventies and eighties, he had to be pretty old, right? Why was I chasing an old man around? My nose wrinkled up in distaste as I had begun to realize how nasty that was. He is as old as my grandfather! Oh, how gross! As soon as realization hit me, I knew I had to stick with what I had already been doing in order to keep myself safe since he has been avoiding me since I had my interest in him known. I wasn’t just any survivor to him; I was the crazy one who would chase around a murderer just to get his attention.

At the same time, it is so hard to curb that attraction. It had been there all night, but it should go away over time, right? The more I walked, I had begun to realize that I had officially lost Michael and therefore I don’t know what direction he went. Here I was again, roaming around aimlessly to find him in the general direction from where I lost saw him before I got distracted by the light in the sky and the lack of fog. If only I had kept my eyes on him the entire time, then I wouldn’t have lost him. I was beating myself up internally by constantly berating myself. I should have been more diligent.

As I continued to roam around the farm land that surrounded me, I thought about the innocent spring trip everyone was looking forward to and what it had become. Those of us who didn’t know each other could have become friends, but that was stolen away from those who were killed so unjustly. The only one whom I don’t feel sorry for is Claudette; she got was she deserved. Still, I thought about the one we called “Jeebus”, and how selfless he was. He was someone I saw myself becoming great friends with, but he was taken away from all of us.

With a little sigh, I continued to make my way around the property till I found myself at the house again. When I looked at it, it seemed so lonely with all the objects abandoned in the place. Quietly, I crept up the stairs and got inside the white dilapidated house when I heard a sound that had come from the second story. Out of curiosity, I made my way up the stairs and walked towards the room where I had heard the sound come from. I thought I was the only one in here, but who was in here with me. My feet moved slowly with trepidation when I saw the big hole on the floor, I knew the person didn’t jump down. I looked towards the red lockers by the wall and squint my eyes with suspicion. Slowly, one of the locker doors open and out came Dwight.

When I saw him, I was filled with relief and immediately rushed to the second locker hoping to see Kate again. I felt his hand grab my arm making me turn to him. Once he shook his head I knew; I knew she wasn’t in the house with us. Immediately, worry had etched itself on my face. My friend was still out there and possibly getting chased while wounded. Why wasn’t he with her? The last time she saw Dwight, he was next to Kate and that was back when Claudette did the bitch thing to save herself.

“Why isn’t Kate with you? I thought you were protecting each other.” I questioned wanting to get to the bottom of what had happened.

“We got separated when Michael came and snuck up on us. Kate pushed me away; she knew that he focuses on the survivor that is already wounded. She was giving me a fighting chance to escape this place. Whenever that is…”

“That’s the odd thing… I noticed that Michael was moving faster when the sky was lighting up again. Now, this is just a theory and a stupid one at that, but I honestly think he can’t keep killing after a certain time. He can only do it during the night hours. If Kate can keep clear of him till the sun is fully up, she may have a chance.” Dwight was giving a look that seemed like he was thinking I was crazy, not that I blame him. It was a very strange theory and I wouldn’t believe it if someone else had come up with it. Hell, I don’t really know if I believe in it or not.

“It sounds like a nice theory and all, but it to put it bluntly, it sounds nuts. It’d be impossible to have it work out like that. You do realize that, right? It isn’t plausible.” I know he was trying to be logical, but there was nothing sensible that happened with the fog that rolled in out of nowhere. It did trap us on this piece of property. If we had tried to go through it, we would have gotten lost within the thickness of it. There may be some out there that get as thick as this one did, but most don’t move and appear almost out of thin air. As much as the theory may be stupid, it’s something we can work with since we have no knowledge about how this started or how to get out of it.

“I know it isn’t exactly… reasonable, but that is what it looked like. Even the fog is slowly going away like there is a timer. Perhaps if Kate can keep running from him without getting hurt further, she may be able to come out of this alive!” My voice was so full of hope. It sounded like a solid plan in my opinion if my friend was able to continue to run around.

“There is no way that is possible Feng! You’re probably seeing things because you’re wishing for it so much.” I can’t help but glare at Dwight. I thought he, of all people, would believe me even if it sounded crazy. In a way it made me angry that he can’t take my word for it. It was really what I saw.

“When we leave this house, look out at the perimeter of the property and you will see yourself. Even I can’t explain it since it is so odd. This whole night has been weird and horrifying! Don’t you want some hope that we can get out of here?”

“Feng…” He sounded like he was exhausted of all this running and hiding he had been doing all night while I was busy following Michael Myers. “Of course, I’d like hope to get off this land and go back home. It may not be that easy, but if it is, I will give the win as you would deserve. I think it is a safe bet that we forget about the spring break vacation.” Dwight wasn’t wrong there. Spring break was clearly over for us and there would be no vacation. If I had known this was going to happen, I personally, would have stayed home even when it means missing out on the hot old man wielding a large knife.

I had started making my way out of the room along with the nerd who looked like he could be a manager at Walmart. There was definitely some tension between him and I. He wants logical answers whereas I had only hope. Sometimes a little hope can go a long way especially for us who were put in this dreadful situation all night. At least we had each other though. It was better than doing things alone like I was originally. Slowly, we walked out of the house, both of us were looking for sign of Kate but it was so difficult to see since the corn stalk was so thick.

Near where I was, I heard some rustling then I saw the friend I was looking for running out into the open while holding the wound she had. It seemed like she hadn’t seen Dwight and I since she had run right past us. And soon enough Michael had come stalking out with his knife raised while following Kate. Without even thinking about what I was doing, I ran after Kate and Michael. Someone had to distract him from harming my friend more than he already had! But the killer was far more determined that I thought he was as he was moving faster like he was playing with his food. Taunting his prey.

It seemed he had enough of his games for he was soon on the blonde country singer. As he swung his knife down, she moved at the last minute to avoid getting stabbed. Sadly, her movements were slower to the wound at her side. How was she going to keep up with all the running while hurt? As I watched her slow down even further, I knew she wasn’t going to make it for very much longer. My heart thudded in my chest as I tried to race towards my friend. I felt hands had grabbed at me and pulled me away just as I saw the silver blade of the knife go into the flesh of Kate. While I gasped, I felt Dwight’s hand over my mouth to prevent the sound to carry over to the one who was killing the one person I had been friends with in college that wasn’t a gamer.

As I felt Dwight pulling me away from the scene in front of us, I watched as the man known as “The Shape” yanked the knife out of my friend causing her to bleed faster due to the new open wound. I watched with sadness and horror as her life’s blood was staining her dirty halter top red. With horror clear in my eyes, I saw him pick her up with one hand as she tried crawling away. Our eyes even met as if she was telling me to go. Dwight continued to pull me along with him; it was almost like he was trying to protect me from seeing my own friend die before my eyes.

The sun was getting up higher into the sky when we heard a scream. That last and final scream was the tell-tale that my friend, Kate, was murdered. I stumbled over a bit as I ran beside Dwight, who caught me mid-stumble. We had to make it to the perimeter before he got us too. I would not let Kate’s death be in vain. As we continued to run, we heard footsteps catching up to us.
