Claudette Morel

Claudette Morel

No one said anything for the longest time as we looked at the person who had complimented Kate on her looping skills. Where had she been all this time? Why didn’t she bother to help Jeff or even my friend? Weren’t we all supposed to help each other? All I could do was blink my eyes not quite believing what I was seeing even though she was clearly there. Standing in front of us, alive and healthy was Claudette Morel.

Anger had begun to bubble up inside me the longer I looked at her. Must have been nice to blend in with the some of the areas in the field. Was anyone else just as angry as I was? Slowly, we all separated from the hug we were in to celebrate the country singer’s success, just to look at the other so-called leader. In a way, it felt like she abandoned us to our fate. The more I felt outraged because of this woman, the more I felt myself slip. Maybe I should alert Michael to our whereabouts in hope that he’d spot Blendette here, but then, I’d be risking Kate’s and Dwight’s lives and I just can’t do that to them. It didn’t mean I couldn’t do it when she was separate from everyone else though.

With my dark thoughts taking over, I was thinking of the different ways I could alert the tall handsome killer. To screw over Claudette as she did nothing. As my vision was beginning to be filled with red, my hands clenched at my sides. Before, I’d do anything I may regret, I walked away enough distance where I could still hear but not do any harm to anyone. The balls on that woman though.

“Where have you been Claude? We have all been wondering where you were and whether we were all going to escape together or not.” Dwight informed the no-good science girl who cared about her own preservation it seemed then to help those in need. To top it all off, she was the reason we were in this mess to begin with since she led us in the wrong direction. That part may not have been fair due to the thick fog that had appeared out of the blue, but still, how could she not tell the main road to an unknown dirt road?

“I’ve been roaming around the farmland trying to find a way out of here, but to no avail. We can’t go back the way we came for some reason. Then I heard screaming as well. Is everyone okay?” Even from where I was standing, I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. Did she really care about what happened or was she thinking of her own survival? For some reason I no longer trusted this companion of ours.

“Jeff was hooked twice on a hook, by the killer who you saw chasing Kate around the wooden structure. Feng and I… Well… He didn’t make it. Michael Myers killed him.” From a near distance, I heard the corn move, and I hid behind the wall of the shack that had been filled with dried blood on the floor. If anyone had noticed that I had moved, they would know they needed to hide if they were smart.

From the distance, I saw the tall man walk around the corn stalks like he was looking for survivors. It seems he was having difficulty finding anyone. Moving as quietly as I could in the shack, I looked through the square opening where a window could have been, searching for the woman. I caught her moving away like she was trying to slink away so the others could get hit instead of her. Squinting my eyes, I vaulted over the window hoping to make as much as noise possible to alert Michael. I followed Claudette from a distance so she wouldn’t spot me. If she did, I don’t know what she was going to do. It was just better that she didn’t detect me at all.

Soon enough, I felt someone’s eyes on me like they were pursuing me and that could only mean one thing. I had finally caught the menacing man’s attention which can be a good and bad thing. In a way, I enjoyed the thought of it. It gave me a thrill. A form of happiness. What I was doing was very cruel and not very nice, but at the same time, I can’t help but feel no remorse. Without looking back, I waved my hand for him to follow me before pointing him in the direction I was leading him to.

Taking a quick look behind me, I saw how close to me he really was. My heart beat wildly in my chest as my eyes widened slightly before going back to normal. I made the typical horror movie mistake, but I was able to correct it quickly by facing forward and running through the corn where I had seen miss. Blendette go through. I knew the man didn’t lose me, nor was I really trying to get him to stop following me. I ducked and even had to prevent myself from tripping on rocks as I ran through. I was no where near the house anymore. Instead, it looked like I was closer to the barn where I saw the other girl run into. Knowing he’d be able to catch up to me easily, I jumped through the space where the window should have been.

To my luck, I had jumped in front of Claudette, stopping her in her tracks. For a moment she looked scared like I was the one killing people until recognition registered on her face. A small smirk tugged at my lips as I looked at her. From behind this girl, I had spotted Michael coming around the corner, finally spotting the two of us. I watched as he slowly approached us while raising his big knife. I feigned calmness just so she wouldn’t know what was going on as I watched the look of relief flood her features. Too bad for her though, as soon as I saw him swing his knife, I bolted from the scene.

As soon as I had left the barn, I heard her scream. My gaze moved back to the barn that looked like it was also a butcher place as well. The more I stood there staring where I had left Claudette, regret had begun to pool in my gut. I couldn’t believe I had done such a thing to someone. What had possessed me to be so horrible? My body started convulse into nonstop trembling from my actions. At this point, I was no better than Michael Myers; in fact, I was an accomplice. I helped him. What would the others think if they ever found out? She’d being an outcast. There was no question about that.

Once I saw Michael carrying the other girl on his shoulder, I hid in the corn stalk. Watching what was in front of me, I saw him place the science girl on the hook. Her screams filled the air. I don’t know how long the wind can carry sound; I just hope it didn’t alert the others. If they were to get her off the hook before she passes out from the pain, she’d be in trouble. Claudette would spill the beans that I had betrayed the survivor group. There were only two options for me at that moment. Get her off the hook to make myself seem innocent or keep myself away from the others and try to survive on my own.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Thinking between the options I had, neither were good. But I eventually had to make a choice. With a sigh, I looked around making sure he wasn’t too close before I stepped out of my very much obvious hiding spot. I crossed over to where she was hanging and lifted her by her calves, slipping her off the hook. She let out a soft scream and a painful gasp as I set her down on her feet. I made up for what I did earlier, now there was no way she could suspect me for slugging her down so Michael could have her easily. At least that was what I hoped. She clearly isn’t dense since she is a science nerd in school. When she looked up at me from being bent over in pain, I saw suspicion in her eyes.

“Did you know he was standing there behind me? Did you Feng!?” My eyes grew wide as I shook my head in denial. I heard her let out a scoff as she grew angry, whether she knew the truth or not, I don’t know. I really hoped not.

“No, he had popped out of nowhere. When I saw him, it was already too late, he was already raising his knife. The need to survive was strong.” It was clear to see that she did not believe the shit I was feeding her. Some of it wasn’t a lie though; he really does move so silently that it seemed like he pops out of nowhere. That part was true at least.

“Then what was with the smirk after you had jumped through the opening in front of me? Huh?” My eyes blinked at her a few times like she was losing her mind. I have never been the cunning nor manipulative type, but not only do I have to save myself, but the image others have of me. And who would they believe once I point out she was able to help out multiple times but didn’t? I have been around Dwight almost the whole time. The other who would have defended me was sadly dead.

“What are you talking about Claudette? I don’t recall smirking at you after vaulting through. I looked at you when you got startled by my sudden appearance. That is what I recall before he appeared, before I ran.” I continued to feign my innocence. Though, at this point, I was far from it and we both knew it. But hopefully I had fooled her enough so she wouldn’t tell the others Otherwise, I would have left her hanging.

Silently, I watched how she carefully contemplates the words I had spoken to her. It was hard to tell if she believed me or not. If there was an inkling of doubt in her mind that she may have misunderstood then I was in the clear. When I heard rustling of corn near us, I quickly ran to hide behind the busted up chipped paint green tractor when I spotted Claudette hid behind a hay bale. My eyes then caught sight of Michael roaming around when he noticed that the hook was vacant. I watched as he turned to scan the area knowing that Claudette would not have gotten far. I noticed he slowly turned his attention to where she was hiding as she grunts quietly in pain. Carefully watching, I noticed she was mending herself. If only she was around when Jeff needed it. But no, she came too late. As I continued to watch, I noticed Michael was looming over science girl. It was as if he was waiting for her to notice that he was there. In a way that was sadistic, yet, isn’t that something I did to her earlier?

When she finally noticed that the killer was behind her, she took off running into the corn field. I was not going to interfere this time, for I knew he didn’t need my help finding her if he continues to stalk her. He was a predator hunting for his prey and it was better I stay out of his line of sight. What I did instead was follow him and his graceful yet dangerous movements. I felt like I was stalking the stalker at this point.

It seemed like he was having a difficult time keeping his eyes on Claudette through the thick cornstalk. The only disadvantage she had was the fact the corn was green or gold and she was neither. Therefore, she was unable to blend into the surroundings which made things somewhat easier for him. He continued to stalk her while I remained steadfast in following him. I wasn’t even going to bother to help her, but to watch him.

As I moved behind Michael, I watched him disappear into a wooden structure that was a lot like the one Kate had run him around in. That must mean little miss Blendette was going to try the same thing. Whether she would succeed was to be seen for she wasn’t exactly athletic, but nor was the one whom I call hoochie lady and she somehow succeeded. Hiding behind an object that was able to cover me, I remained silent as I watched the tall killer weave in and out of the structure. There was no way he had lost her. How? My chocolate brown eyes swept around the structure and yet, she didn’t see her leave. There had to be a hiding spot in that damned thing if the hunter couldn’t find her.

It seemed like he was getting frustrated the more he was looking for his prey. He eventually gave up and walked away. From the way he walked, he seemed angry. He was probably going to go look for my friends who I deemed as actually innocent for they actually try to help. When he was gone, I crept out of my hiding place and went towards the structure after debating in my head where I should go.

Slowly, I crept up to the structure, staying on high alert I listened out for footsteps while looking out for science girl who was very good at blending. While walking through the T wall structure, I made sure to look in some of the spots that could be used for hiding. When I caught movement from the corner of my eye, I turned to see that Claudette was making for a great escape from the area. Taking steps forward, I had decided to follow her as she ran on the outside of the corn. Though, I knew she’d be found easily due to all the grunting in pain she’s doing. She’d need strong pain meds to dull the agony she was in. With all the noise science girl was making, she’d attract Michael in no time and he’d attack her again. Maybe I really didn’t have anything to worry about after all. He’d unknowingly save me from trouble that I had created for myself. As I continued to pursue her, I noticed how she remained crouched as she walked. Was this how she had evaded the killer this entire time? Out of sight and out of mind.

The more I watched her and her habits when she thought she was by herself, it seemed my assumptions were becoming correct. I knew now, for certain, that there was no way she was going to help Jeff or any of us if we were in danger. She was all about preserving her own life instead of helping others in need. By definition, she was indeed a fake. A fake leader and not at all a reliable friend. Sadly, I’m sure no one would believe me if I told them without evidence; not that it really matters anymore since Michael was now hunting for her.
