Just fifteen years ago when I was 19 I thought nothing can stop me from doing what I wanted. I went partying every night and one day one of my mate urged me to sell some drugs for him. I was unsure but the pressure eventually came and I agreed to sell them. It was my first time doing something illegal so I wasn't sure who to sell them to. My mates told me to go to this karaoke place as that is where he usually sold them.
I went to it and looked around if anyone was interested. I saw this man wearing sunglasses talking to some girls, 'he looks like the type that would buy them' was what I thought but I was so wrong. As soon as I walked up to him and showed him the drugs he immediately took cuffs out. My whole body trembled and I tried to run away. Running, I knocked down many glass bottles and they smashed in to pieces while trying to get away but before I can he pushed me down on the floor and started yelling. I panicked and grabbed the nearest thing possible... I grabbed the smashed glass and stabbed him. The blood from his chest flowed down on the floor. I didn't know what to do.
When I came to my senses I was in court and was judged guilty plus 15 years of imprisonment for selling illegal drugs and murder of a policeman. I can see my parents crying in the corner. They must hate me for going down the wrong path. When I was in jail they visit me every week but it slowly went down to every month then to every year. One day they didn't come anymore. I got anxious so I went to phone them on the number they showed me two years ago. I phoned them again and again then someone picked up, it was my mum. I instantly felt relieved because I thought they had an accident or something. I spoke to her
"Mum, it's me Jay"
"J... Jay..."
"Mum, how have you been? When are you going to visit me again?"
It was so long ago since I heard her voice. I wonder when she is going to be visiting me again. I missed her so much. It's funny isn't it, when I was young I treated her poorly. Most of the time I ignored her and now it is me that is calling her.
Just when I was about to say something else I heard on the other side of the phone the conversation of my parents.
" DEAR! Our son just called! What should I do!"
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"What! Who cares about him. Just end the call!"
My heart instantly shattered and when I was about to say something the line got cut off. I've been abandoned.
Time passed by slowly and I finally turned 34. Tomorrow is the day I get sent back out and be released from this prison. Since this is my last day at prison my mates that I befriended inside celebrated with me. They threw me a party even though it was just a cake made out of mashed potatoes. It still tasted great, it was the best cake I have ever tasted. We tried to stay up late but the patrols eventually caught us and we had to go to sleep.
My day of release has finally came. My first step out of this gate is the day I will restart my life. Even without my parents i can do just fine. The first thing I started to do was to find my mates. I haven't seen them for a long time. With a lot of searching I came to the house he is now living in. With a few knocks on the door a man in his mid 30s came out. He has a rough beard and messy bed hair. I knew it was him at first sight but he came to ask me who I was and when I answer he immediately slammed the door on me. At this moment I knew that I was alone. No family and no friends but I still have a future. With this in mind I tried finding a job but with no resume and a criminal background I had no luck.
While walking down the streets in disappointment, it started pouring all of a sudden so I ran under a bridge for shelter. I squat down to wait for the rain to subside. I then heard a sound. It was a cat's purr. I walked towards the sound and saw a little cat in a cardboard box. It had large round eyes and a soft black coat of fur. Just when I was about to pick it up it ran out of the cardboard box and into the rain. I got worried and chased after it. Although I could have just left it alone, I couldn't. It was similar to me in an aspect, it was abandoned.
The black cat ran onto the road and coincidently a car was about to crash into it. Without thinking of the consequences I chased after it.
CRASH!!!
I looked into my arms, the cat was not injured, I felt relieved. People started gathering around me. The floor was stained red and slowly the light drifted away.
