Chapter 3 - Convincing Mum

Chapter 3 - Convincing Mum

WOW! Dad looked so cool for a second there. Even though I may be mentally older than him, I have never seen anyone move so fast in my life before. During the first encounter both men rushed to each other. The drunk man was half a head taller than my dad and his muscles are twice as bulged but dad was more faster. His ability to battle using the sword was swift but strong. After those several minutes of exchange that man tried to piece my dad from below with a hidden sword but my dad saw through it and with a motion of his sword, the opponent's sword falls to the ground.

Dad then place his sword on the man's neck. That man's face went instantly pale, he must be sober now.

"Do you admit defeat?"

"I...I do"

My dad placed his sword back in its sheath and dismissed his horse spirit. After that he went to talk to the restaurant owner. It seems the owner thanked dad rather than asking him for compensation. The one who needs to pay was the drunk, now sober man for all the damage he has done to the restaurant.

While I was recalling how the fight went dad came up to me and lift me up high.

"So, does your dad looks cool or what?"

I looked at him and nodded fanatically.

He and I both smiled at each other until mum ruined the moment. She pulled dad away by the ear and gave him a long lecture about fighting in front me. After dinner we walked back home and during that time dad told me many stories about himself when he was an adventurer. Apparently he retired from adventures when he married mum.

Mum was a florist that dad had met during his adventures and had fallen for her at first sight. He proposed many times but got shot down. Despite this when she went to the forest to search for some new flowers, she got lost and was attacked by a huge bear, dad went to her rescue and defeated the bear himself. Mum was moved by his actions and accepted his love. They got married and dad became a hunter in the village mum was born in. It was a typical 'fall in love with your hero' story that you usually find in novels but because of this they had me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had turned 3 years old last month and my  parents have moved me into the kids room next door. It has been 10 months since dad's fight at the restaurant. It shouldn't be that absurd for a three year old to request their parents if they can learn from their dad.
The sun has gone down and our family was just about to have dinner when I asked my dad a request.
"Dad, teach me how to fight like you"
But before my dad can answer he got cut off by mum.
"NO"
"Why mum?!"
"You're too young and what if you get hurt"
Mum looked really worried and stare towards dad. Dad looked helplessly back at me. I rolled my eyes back at dad. Why is he so chicken in front of mum.
"Mum I understand you want me to be safe but without learning how to fight I would never survive in this world. I would get labeled as a weak child who hides behind my mother's back and would be unable to protect people I care about. I want to protect you too"
I tried my best to convince mum to let dad train me in the way of the sword. While I blurted all those reasons out, I confidently held my head high. My mum sighed and asked.
"I see... you won't change your decision?"
You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.
I nodded without hesitation but then my mum's dispirited look quickly changed into a strong determination.
"I will let your father teach you the sword but only when you have learnt healing magic from me"
"REALLY MUM!"
I get to learn magic as well. YES!
"Neil, don't get that excited. The only magic I know are basic healing spells and before that we need to know your mana level. 90% of the human population don't have mana at all. Some might gain it during years of hard training but even if they do, their mana is almost non-existent. Only 10% of the human population have mana and around 3% have enough mana quantity to become a mage. If you don't have enough mana, your spell's can only reach the basic limit. Like your mum here, I only have enough mana to learn the basic healing spell, CURE."
After hearing this I felt dejected as my mana disappears after three hour of meditating even after 3 years. I feel it is not enough.
"Next week, when your dad has a day off work, he will take you to the nearest town to get you tested at a Mage Guild to see if you have any mana. If you don't have mana then you won't train in the way of the sword till your 8. Are you clear?"
"Mum I have a few questions? Why do we need to go to a town? and what is a Mage Guild?"
"Neil, our village is small and it doesn't have any guilds. A Mage Guild is a place where mages gather to research and it is also a place where they test your mana quantity. There are three organisations out there and they are the Adventure Organisation, the Warrior Organisation and the Mage Organisation. Each organisation has thousands of guild branches and every town and city must have at least one of them."
"What is an Adventure Guild and a Warrior Guild?"
"An Adventure Guild is where adventurers gather and receive quests to finish. Each quest has their own level of difficulty and rewards. A Warrior Guild is where warriors gather. Warriors can be from archers to knights to monks. In a Warrior  Guild there are training centers where you train and spar with others. You can even join all of them at the same time as long as you qualify their enterence exams. Any more questions?"
I shook my head. I was satisfied, at least for now. First of all I need to meditate more to expand my mana pool. In my mind I have constructed a timetable of how this week will past till I need to get my mana tested. The bigger the mana pool the more mana I will have and a better chance of me being included in the 3%.
The next day, after I had my breakfast I went back into my room and went into my meditating state of mind. I started moving my mana around my body as usual but this time I moved my mana at a faster rate then before so I can get twice the results in every hour. After the hour is over I rested for 30 minutes for my mana to replenish and I repeated this three times. Four hours passed by in a flash.
I got hungry so I went to ask my mum for lunch. My dad went hunting as usual and my mum stays at home to take care of me. Since she is a florist she could stay at home and tend the garden. By selling the flowers that she grows she also helps with the living expenses.
After lunch I ran around the house for one hour and did some body stretches. Next I went into the garden to help my mum with gardening. Once gardening was finished I went back to my room to do my meditating. I repeated what I had done this morning till it was dinner time. I spent my whole week doing this repeatedly till the day of my mana testing.
