Chapter 4 - Outnumbered

Chapter 4 - Outnumbered

“Neil! It’s time for breakfast. You need to get ready. Your dad has already had his breakfast, he’ll leave you behind”

“I’M READY! DON’T LEAVE ME BEHIND”

After breakfast my dad and I left the house. The town we are going to is called EDGE TOWN, the town is specialised in crafting and many adventurers visit to purchase weapons. The weapons that they sell are high quality. It takes half a day to get there from my village via walking and to arrive there we have to go through LAR FOREST. LAR FOREST is a forest occupied with monsters. The monsters there are not that powerful but the breeding rate of these monsters are too high thus too many to destroy. Since LAR FOREST is just on the side of EDGE TOWN many adventures go there to train.

Nearing the end of our journey toward EDGE TOWN we are now walking through LAR FOREST but suddenly my dad stopped, I also stopped and turned towards my dad.

“Dad… why are”

“Hush”

Before I could finish asking my question, I was cut off. My dad took his sword out of his sheath and call out his horse spirit. He stared straight at the trees on his left the then his right.

“Neil, when I count to 3 run towards the town. After you arrive go to the town’s guard and ask for assistance”

“What do you mean assistance, dad.”

“3…2…”

“Dad?”

“1 GO!”

Suddenly goblins, many goblins rushed out from the left and right. There are around 100 of them. I started getting cold feet; this is the first time I have ever seen such ugly creatures in my life, if I run now will dad still be alive when I return. I looked in the direction of town, it would take about half an hour to go there and I need to call for help too. Would I make it in time!?

“ HURRY! GO”

OH STUFF THIS! I braced myself and ran towards to town, without looking back I ran at full speed. From behind me I could hear the spirit neigh and sword clashes. Please be alive when I return with the guards.

I finally arrive…

Huff… Huff I can’t rest yet, I ran towards the town’s gate. The guards that were patrolling were in disbelief because a three year old kid was running towards them at full speed. The guards then bob down and asked me what happened. I told them about my dad and the goblins, one of the guards ran quickly to his supervisor and the other guard told me to stay here and wait for their return but I refused. I had to go with them; I couldn’t just stay here being safe while my dad could die. A man then step towards me, he was in his late 30s and had a stoic face devoid of emotions.

“You’re a burden”

He is right. I’m just a three year old who does not know how to battle. What help can I do…

“Then promise me. You have to save my dad”

The stoic man then smiled, he wasn’t emotionless after all.

The guard’s number up to 50 and they all ran towards where my dad was. I can only wait as their backs disappear into the forest one by one. I sat down onto the floor and the guards that were left behind tried to console me but it does not get through. I sat there for a long time, not moving at all, my heart beat was thumping so hard that I get this painful feeling in my chest.

At that time Lance Caesar was battling with 100 goblins, thankfully he has his spirit there with him so the burden was lessened but the fight was getting dangerous by the minute. A blow comes from the goblin from his right, Lance blocks it but then another blow comes from a different direction, he blocks that as well. The assaults from the goblins are not slowing down at all, instead they get faster. It forced him to step back. Step by step he moves back from the incoming blows until he came to a stop, his back was facing a tree. All of the goblins swung their sword at Lance and with nowhere to go Lance tries to block it with his sword. He managed to block some attacks but some went in and he suffered a huge sword wound on his chest.

Neigh! The horse spirit comes galloping towards the wall of goblins surrounding Lance. The horse spirit’s name was Quin and it is a prideful spirit. It never lets anyone other than Lance ride him. Quin lifts his front legs and stomps on the goblin wall. With Quin stomping around in a fury the wall of goblins get smashed flat onto the ground in no time but even if those goblins were dead there was still more than half left. With a deep wound on his chest Lance jumped onto Quin’s back. He had no choice but to be protected by Quin till the guards come. He cannot faint because if he loses consciousness then Quin will be dismissed and he will truly die.

Moments later the guards arrive at the battle scene and see many corpses of goblins on the ground. The scene looks like it has come straight out of a picture from hell as blood was all over the place, on the floor and on the trees; blood was dripping from the leaves onto the ground. Some of the goblin’s corpses were beyond recognition as they were a pile of flesh. The scariest of all was despite the many corpses, there were still more goblins that were alive and a horse spirit is trying to trample them down. On the back of the horse spirit was a man with a large wound on his chest, his complexion was as pale as a ghost. When the guards saw this they rushed toward the goblins. The goblins were pushed back and seeing so many enemies they retreated. The guards quickly took Lance back to town.

I was getting impatient with waiting and asked the guard when they will come back. Just when I said it, the guard yelled

“THEY’RE BACK!”

I turned around and saw the guards coming back, I ran towards them and they opened up a path for me. It was not a good sign. My heart instantly dropped when I see my dad full of blood with a large deep wound on his chest. Blood was dripping on the floor and didn’t seem to stop. I ran towards him and kneel on the ground. Why did I leave him there!

Dad opened his eyes and looked towards me. His face was so pale that anyone that sees him would think he would die anytime now.

“I’m sorry; I won’t be able to see you grow up”

“No, that won’t happen; you’re not dying on me”

Even if there is a small chance, I will still try. Wait, there is one, the healing spell. I searched through my memory, trying to remember what my mum recited.

“God of life and light, heal this troubled soul with your mighty powers, CURE!”
