Chapter 109: Outbreak II

𝘛𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘺 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬...

Officers were firing a barrage of bullets toward the massive army of human-like monsters, though it appeared as if their shots weren't doing any damage unless they were aimed directly at the brain. Even if a creature received a bullet to the head, it'd only be decommissioned for a brief moment before it was back up on its feet.

"There's too many of 'em!" one of the officers spoke, firing a rifle over a squad car's hood in an attempt to defend the Midtown Precinct North Station. "Aim for the heads!" another officer shouted, landing a headshot on one of them, causing the zombified person to fall down onto their back for a few seconds, only to get up in a slow, contorted manner. Much like a traditional zombie, it began to walk slowly toward the officers, seemingly losing its agile movement abilities upon its brain being injured.

𝘻𝘵𝘵!

However, the monsters that were seemingly using electricity to enhance their speed were picking the officers off one by one, abducting them before anyone could even get a glimpse of them, or attempt to fire a bullet in their brains. "We need to regroup in-"

𝘻𝘵𝘵!

One of the officers tried to bark orders, only to be snatched away in an instant, leaving his gun and a blue streak of electricity where he once stood. The rest of the officers began running back toward the station, some being picked off by the abducting types while others were being tackled and devoured by the human-likes.

After a few officers made it back inside, one of the officers slammed the door shut, locking out a few of his comrades behind him. "HELP ME! PLEASE, OPEN THE DOOR!" one of the officers begged for his life, banging on the metal door of the police station, however, he was ultimately ignored. "HELP!" he screamed one last time before the banging and his pleas ended for good.

Breathing heavily, the officer that shut the door could do nothing more but stare at it, thinking about what he had just done and feeling disgusted with himself. "You killed them..." another officer whispered, looking at his comrade with wide eyes. The officer who shut the door turned around to see his coworkers all looking at him as if he too were a monster.

"What? Why are you all looking at me like that? I don't see you guys helping them! I wanted to live!" as those words left the officer's mouth, a loud banging sound could be heard on the massive metal door that was protecting them. Not only was the attack heard, but it was seen as there was a massive dent coming toward them.

Again, the monsters outside banged on the door, prompting the police officers to begin sprinting deeper into the facility, as they knew that the door wouldn't hold much longer. "Run!" one of the officers shouted, as they all ran together until they reached the stairs leading to the basement level.

One of the officers waved everyone over, waiting for them all to pass and go down the steps before he shut the door and locked it behind him. All twenty or so officers sprinted down the steps and down toward the armory, hoping to gear themselves up some more to defend themselves from the oncoming doom.

As they ran down the steps, they could hear the front door finally breaking, followed by the sounds of creatures running on all fours above them. It wasn't long before the freaks found out that the officers were downstairs, using their strength to then attack the door that protected the stairwell. "Go! Go! Move it!" one of the officers spoke as they all hustled down the steps sporadically.

It wasn't long before they were finally at the bottom of the steps, running past another door before an officer shut it and locked it behind them all. Inside the armory, there were rifles and ammunition to last them weeks, along with grenades and other weapons to defend themselves with.

"Finally, some ammo!" one of the officers said before approaching one of the sniper rifles. His personal handgun had been out of ammo for the longest, so he was without any form of weaponry. The rest of them looked at the guy with disheveled glares, confused as to why he planned on using a sniper rifle in such close quarters. "Uh, aren't we a little too close range for that?" one of the officers spoke, though he was ignored.

The excited officer loaded the sniper rifle with a single bullet before pulling the bolt on the sniper rifle. Quickly, the officer put the gun up to the bottom of his chin and pulled the trigger.

𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙜!

His entire head exploded, sending bits and pieces of his brain and skull to scatter around the room, completely shocking the entire room. His body and the gun was the only thing that was heard as everyone else was dead silent.

He didn't want to be eaten alive, and he knew this whole plan of having one last line of defense in the basement against the endless horde was pointless.

A few other officers looked at their own guns briefly, looking at each other and wondering if they too should do the same.

𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙜!

One officer dropped.

𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙜!

Then another.

𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙜!

A third officer hit the ground.

𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙜!

A fourth.

𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙜!

A fifth...

This repeated until eleven officers took their own lives, leaving only about a dozen officers left. These officers chose not to end their lives; not because they were brave or because of some valiant reasoning, it was because they were too afraid to even move a muscle. They were so afraid of death, they couldn't even bring themselves to end their own lives.

"We're gonna die in here..." one of the officers muttered.

They could hear the door at the top of the stairs being broken from its hinges, followed by the sounds of footsteps rapidly making their way down the concrete steps.

At this point, the officers knew it was over. Based on the number of footsteps they could hear, they knew there was no way that just a few handfuls of them could defend themselves, not without help.

However, the officers would soon have their hearts filled with hope upon hearing a familiar voice. "Hello? Is anyone in here?" they heard from the vents, it was Spider-Man's voice. He must've crawled through the vents to get to them before the monster could.

"IN HERE! SPIDER-MAN! IN HERE!" one of the officers shouted before the rest of the officers joined in.

"IN HERE!"

"SPIDER-MAN!"

"HELP US!"

"SPIDER-MAN!"

"WE'RE IN THE ARMORY!"

After several seconds, they could hear slamming on the door behind them, as the monsters finally arrived at the final barrier that had been placed between them. "HURRY SPIDER-MAN!" an officer cried out before the ventilation shaft was blasted off of its hinges, sending it flying across the room.

"Thank God!" one of the officers said before running off toward the vent. She jumped up, grabbing the inside of the vent to begin pulling herself up. However, in an instant, two red hands grabbed her by the arms and dragged her inside. She released a blood-curdling scream as she was yanked into the vent, one that sent a shiver down the spines of her comrades.

Again, they could hear the monsters piling up and slamming on the door behind them, but none of the officers even dared to move. Slowly, two red arms gripped the sides of the entrance to the vent, bending themselves in a way that was not natural. "Spider-Man?" one of the officers whispered, praying that this was all just one of Spider-Man's poorly-timed jokes.

However, the real answer would astound them all once a grotesque version of Spider-Man slowly began crawling its way out of the vent as if it were possessed. Its jaw looked as if it were broken and its foot-long tongue dragged from its mouth as it looked at the officers with bloodthirsty eyes.

This wasn't Spider-Man at all, but one of those creatures that pretend to be him, in order to lure its victims.

One of the officers drew his weapon, only to be immediately pounced on by the fake Spider-Man before the monster began chowing down on his face aggressively, causing the man's body to bob and convulse as the life escaped his body. The other officers began firing bullets at the beast, however, they weren't doing any sort of damage to it, and not even headshots were enough to stop it.

A couple more false Spider-Men began crawling out of the vents, pouncing on police officers before doing the same as the other mimic, gnawing on the officers' faces with their razor-sharp teeth, swaling their tongues and eyeballs as if they were consuming human stew.

The officers who weren't being used as a meal could do nothing more than watch as their friends were being devoured in front of them. Just a few moments later, the door protecting them was finally busted down, and the very last human sound that could be heard from that room was the horrifying bellows of the officers' fates being sealed for good.
