62ND GEAR - OTAKUS AND THEIR CRAZY HOT MOMS
The bell rang from the tower of the campus, signaling the end of the classes. Students have clumped into small groups, and some others have already exited the classroom.
I looked at the empty desk in my front. Flu really did not show up. This is the very first time in six months that she was absent. She might be stupid as a brick, but she always does her best to attend her classes with a jolly attitude and an unerasable smile on her face.
Normally, once the bell rings, Flu would pester me and shout “I’m excited to practice!”. Now that the annoying screams of that adorable girl are not here, I feel lonely. Well, she’s the only friend I got in this school, and most mages avoid me like I have coronavirus.
“I gotta visit her,” I muttered under my breath.
There was this assignment in English that she should submit tomorrow, and also I have her handouts on Calculus and Algebra. Now I have a perfect excuse to see her and learn how she’s doing. Maybe she’s still sulking over her loss, considering her performance in practice yesterday was darn awful. I have to at least console her as a coach, no, as a friend.
I left a note to the Merry Knights that I will be taking a day off and I am going to check on Fluonessia’s condition. Then I went and boarded the ferry towards the Eastern Islands. The ride was one hour only, but it was the longest hour I spent in my life thinking and looking at the vast blue ocean.
The sun is already setting when I got myself in front of Flu’s three-story house. And there, I can hear a familiar loud singing voice from their house’ third floor.
“I wanna be the very best, like no one ever waaaaaas!”
I’m pretty sure that it was Flu’s voice. But why is she shouting as she sings? And she’s way out of tune!
If I’m just a stranger who just happens to pass by, I would think that the person living in this house must be partying like crazy. I think she’s not that sad over her loss. I will have to get a refund for having worried about her.
I rang the bell one time, and the door opened. A beautiful woman with the same long pink hair and blue eyes as Flu welcomed me to enter the house. It takes no deep analysis to conclude that it was Flu’s mother.
“Oh! You must be Fluonessia’s classmate! Please come in!” Flu’s mother smiled.
“T-Thank you.” I bowed and then entered their living room.
I was kind of stuttering back there because Flu’s mother is a beautiful woman with the same bright aura that Flu does. She’s like a grown-up version of my pink-haired Speedmage, just taller and has bigger, bouncier assets.
If that is how Flu would look like in the next five years, I gotta make sure that I will marry her in the future.
I sat on the sofa of their living room while Mrs. Asahime prepares some tea in their kitchen. Meanwhile, I can hear Flu’s voice upstairs still singing anime songs.
“Cha la! Head Cha la!”
Mrs. Asahime finally approached me with iced Sencha tea in her hand. She gently put it on the glass table and gave a forced smile.
“I’m sorry for my daughter’s noisiness. I am going to tell her that you’re here.” Mrs. Asahime said.
“Ah, no!” I waved both of my hands vigorously. “I just went here to deliver our assignments and handouts. I don’t want to trouble you and her any further, so I will be on my way now.”
“But you came all the way from the mainland, right?” Mrs. Asahime said. “You spent a lot of time and money to get here. I would be a waste if you didn’t talk to Fluonessia.”
“O-Okay,” I said as I settled down once more on the sofa.

“Please wait for a moment.” Mrs. Asahime smiled, then she immediately went upstairs. Her footsteps became rushed and I can hear thuds with each step.
I can even hear Mrs. Asahime calling out to Flu.
“Fluonessia, your classmate is here! He is waiting downstairs!”
“W-Wha! Coach!?” Flu’s freaked-out voice echoed in the house.
How did she know that it was me who went here?
“Yes! So you better clean up your room fast!” Mrs. Asahime said.
“W-Waaaaah!” Flu panicked as I heard several running footsteps on the third floor. I even heard her activate her Wind Accel superspeed and she went zooming and swooshing all over the place.
“My my, I thought you were sick this morning, but you seemed pretty much okay.” Mrs. Asahime chuckled.
“Don’t tease me, Mom! Go attend to our guest and keep him from being bored!” Flu cried.
“Okay, okay.” Mrs. Asahime chuckled as she went down the stairs.
There were rumbling noises up above that I thought the Colossal Titans are going to trample us. Flu must have really panicked about my sudden visitation here. I kind of regretted giving trouble to her that I shouldn’t have visited.
When Mrs. Asahime went back to their living room, she is carrying another glass of tea and a picture book. She elegantly sat on the sofa beside me and opened the album.
“You are the son of Flint Wardenorth. Is that correct?” Mrs. Asahime asked.
I was quite surprised that Mrs. Asahime knew my father. I know that my father is famous for being a good spellcaster, but I never expected that there is someone who knows him on this island.
Mrs. Asahime pointed at a group picture of mages. Mrs. Asahime pointed to the young face of my father, then she pointed at the face of her early days.
“I have been acquainted with your father several times already, ten years ago. We went to Evocation Magic Seminars and Mana Control Classes at Saint Crusade Academy. He was also a famous Speedmage back in his teenage years, and we were classmates back then. I’m happy to say that your father is a total stud for being an attention-grabber and a womanizer.”
“O-Oh,” I muttered. I don’t know how to react to that.
Mrs. Asahime chuckled and she gently patted her left cheek. “Oh my, I’m sorry for bringing up an awkward topic of your father in the past. Let’s just go to Fluonessia. My daughter has already told me a lot about you.”
“She did?” I asked.
“Of course! She would often bring you as a topic at our dinner table, and she seemed too enthusiastic when talking about you. She told me how her coach overworks all his players just to win the tournament.” Mrs. Asahime was still smiling when she told me that.
I don’t know if I should feel threatened or concerned. My sweat ran down my cheek. There’s still a fine bright aura on Mrs. Asahime, so I guess it’s okay?
“Please continue to have a good relationship with my daughter, okay? You see, she has never made friends before entering Saint Crusade Academy. She was a meek, shy, and lonely girl until she met you.”
I can’t believe it. Flu, a shy and lonely girl? That chatterbox is always noisy in class, in practice, and even in tournaments!
I suddenly imagine Flu’s crying face during her loss against Lilith. That may be her old personality emerging from her jolly one.
Mrs. Asahime flipped the picture book. This time, the pages are all pictures of Flu. There was this adorable picture of a four-year-old Flu who is wearing a white dress and a straw hat, covering her face. There is also this picture of her eating yellow flowers, her puppy blue eyes gazing at the camera.
And then…
There was this picture of young Flu who is playing in a bathtub. There are bubbles all over the bathtub and only her face can be seen in the picture.
“This is Fluonessia bathing when she was four years old.” Mrs. Asahime said. “I made sure to take a picture of her as she grows up.”
Then she flipped to another page. There was another picture of Flu in the bathtub.
“This is Fluonessia bathing when she was eight years old.” Mrs. Asahime smiled.
Mrs. Asahime flipped to another page, and there was it again, Flu on the bathtub filled with foam.
“This is Fuonessia bathing when she was twelve years old.” Mrs. Asahime said once again.
I’m getting uncomfortable by the minute. It gets worse when she flipped to another picture, and it was Flu again on a foamy bathtub. But this time, it is way more recent.
“This is Fluonessia taking a bath yesterday~”
“M-Mom, don’t! Waa-waaaaaaah!”
Bam! Bam! Bam! A pink-haired idiot came rolling down the stairs!
Flu has finally made her appearance, with her face all red and her eyes wide and round. She was still in her pink anime pajamas, and it was not even worn properly that she is exposing her cleavage. She should have been rushing downstairs when she saw her mother revealing me her pictures.
“Mom! Stop showing him embarrassing pictures of meeeee!” Flu cried as she immediately snatched the picture book with her super speed.
“Oh my, I got carried away. Yahahaha!” Mrs. Asahime chuckled.
“J-Jon!” Flu cried. “L-Let’s go to my room so we will not be disturbed!”
“O-Okay.” I just uttered.
“Well then.” Mrs. Asahime stood up. Then she winked at her daughter. “Enjoy your private time~”
“M-Mom! It’s not what you think! Sheesh!” Flu cried again. She approached me while still blushing and then grabbed my wrist. “Let’s go, Jon.”
“O-Okay.”
Flu dragged me until we reached her room in this house, which is the entire third floor. It was almost as wide as a normal bungalow, and there are cute stuffed toys, beanies, and custom pillows. The walls of her pink room are filled with anime posters. There are also some weapons used for cosplays.
She really is an otaku.
