Chapter 1: Humanity

There is a set of pre-programmed instructions in the very fabric of reality that cannot be tampered or destroyed, its soul purpose is to make sure there are conscious entities in every universe.

First, it creates a suitable environment for the existence of said conscious entities, this can range anywhere between a world comprised of only helium gas to one where the most complex mixes of atoms possible are in every corner of the universe.

Needless to say, it does it's job well. You may be asking, however, how worlds that are different from each other even exist, and that's the strange part, instead of having an optimized system for creating conscious entities as fast as possible, the universal instructions have a simple strong hidden command within them. "Variety."

And because of that, it's second step can vary in every which way. Instead of a slow progression of form, evolution, the universal instructions essentially spin a wheel of infinite variety, humanoid most of the time, and then it places the first phase of entities into the world, of course only as soon as the world is suitable enough for them.

And last but not least, the final instruction is to create a power system for the world to rise and fall with. And that is all...

Now that I've told you all of this I might as well observe this world with you because to be honest watching the problems of others is understandably more exciting for those of us who aren't affected by those problems.

(1st character introdcued) Kaede.

'How did I know so much?...' That single thought repeated in my head often. And why did I have that thought often? Well, it's simple, I only just started existing about 3 days ago... I don't know why or how I have the understanding to know that understanding things at the bright old age of 3 days isn't a good thing but it scares me. And regardless of what I try to make myself believe it's like I have a cemented understanding of how things "should," be.

For example, I get sustenance and nutrients via absorbing these small spherical creatures called fey, and yet I know that a normal creature would need to eat other creatures to survive I have the unchanging unwanted fact planted in my head that I absorb fey in the air around me to stay alive instead.

As it's very apparent, nothing is apparently new to me until I think about it a little in which all information of that thing is already something I know. It's very tiresome.

Anyways... my name is Kaede, I'm a female entity that bears most biological resemblance to a human who knows pretty much everything. I know how many other conscious creatures like me are out there, I know that the biome we live in is called a forest. I know that I can't die of physical damage, and most importantly I know literally everything about the current world!... which is why... I can't join the other conscious entities... or rather, I wouldn't feel comfortable around them until they do something that isn't in the current world, I'm waiting for them to make something new, to do something new, something that isn't within my preset knowledge of the world, and once they do that, I think I'd be okay talking to them. It's just I've tried before, it's just so hard to talk to other people when you already know who they are, when they were created, and how they were created. Once the universe began nothing has changed, and so... I wait.

(2nd character) Osian

'Why don't I know anything?...' That single thought is one I had far too often.

My name is Osian I'm a guy with brown hair that has no memory of anything before my current existence, and that's pretty much all I know for sure. I don't know why I understand language or can even think about thinking but the moment I got here I just had the ability to. Speaking of which, the place I'm at is very strange, It's nothing that I know, well to be fair I don't know anything, but it's scary not knowing any other location before going to one.

There are others like me in this green place, they each have their own names and are just as confused as I am about this place. Some of them have started trying to find more of us to see if any of them would know anything but the only thing we got out of talking to others is basic information we all figured out ourselves.

-- 2 months after arrival

(Still Osian)

Fey... Are the secret to the universe, and I am one of the only ones who can see them, or even know of them for that matter, the only other person who I can talk to about Fey is Kaede, who came to me right after I started seeing them about a week after I came here. Kaede has taught me a lot about the world, and after a lot of explaining I was finally able to let my mind relax in this new world, in our world. Trees... Animals... they are all things that are no longer new to me, there's a certain peace of mind you get when you feel like things make sense, when you understand the world.

The air was soft and warm, the birds were chirping in a way that no longer seemed unfamiliar and scary, and the Fey... Oh how beautiful the Fey were today, each of them had a slightly different color from the others, they ranged in size anywhere between an inch big to an entire foot. If I were asked to best describe how Fey look I would say orbs of softly glowing energy with two dots that looked like eyes of a softer color than the body. They wafted through the air around me, never afraid to get close to me even when I clearly saw them, and well, fed off of them to live.

The thing about Fey is although they are wonderful creatures of light, they are the easiest option for gaining sustenance to live for us conscious entities, regardless of if you want to or not you are always passively absorbing Fey around you to stay alive. The alternative to absorbing Fey would be eating animal flesh, something I learned from Kaede, which only a few of us conscious creatures actually get better sustenance than Fey by eating, which sadly I am not.

One of the Fey of a soft yellow tone drifted down onto the palm of my hand, I couldn't feel Fey or interact physically with them but they could with me and the world around them, or at least they made it seem that way. But, something that I was slowly figuring out was how to communicate with them, not long ago after I gained the ability to see them I tried talking to them, but even with all my best efforts it seems they had the inability to interact with sound. Next, I tried writing in the ground with a stick, something Kaede taught me and a few other conscious beings which was surprisingly easy to learn, it had some reaction with the green Fey, but not much with the other colors, which made me start to wonder if the color of the Fey meant anything.

I knew Kaede understood Fey on a fundamental level, she just wouldn't tell me anything that wasn't vague, the only answers I got out of her were, "Fey are the secret to the universe," and, "Fey are the future of this world, all you need to do is communicate." Which to be fair was pretty insightful of her but it didn't answer any of the questions I actually wanted to hear, so, every day now I try to communicate with them, I speak in different tones, I wave my hands around, but so far nothing seems to work...

Honestly, I wish I just knew more.
