Small Galaxy: Chapter 16 The Link

As soon as Basillius heard her say that she could make him stronger his eyes lit up, but her tone and the fact that she was hiding her face behind one of her wings made him narrow his eyes. "We've known each other for literally tens of thousands of years yet this is the first time I've seen you like this......How? How can you make me stronger? What could it possibly be that it's embarrassing to the literal goddess of death?"

She coughed and mumbled, "W-well... I- uh... we... would have too- ahem... We would share our lives... Both past... and future."

The wheels turned in his head as he tried to parse what she was talking about through all the breaks and mumbling. After a few seconds of awkward silence, a strange look crossed his features and he looked up at Maleficus, "Wait what? Did you just... Explain what 'sharing our lives' means."

She started making noises of frustration before drooping her head and heaving a sigh. "Can't you get the hint...? We will be exposing our entire life to the other... I will know your entire past, as will you mine. As for the future... well... The process can only be done with someone whom I am... comfortable with... So I was hoping that you were... comfortable with me too..."

Basillius' jaw dropped and he sat up, staring in shock at Maleficus, "Holy fucking shit... What even..." His mind raced as he tried to figure out if she was meaning something else and just happened to sound like a girl asking out her first prom date. Yet, his mind came up empty and he muttered, "This is... sudden. I mean, we've certainly known each other long enough but... How would it even work out? We aren't even the same class of existence let alone the same species..."

He saw that with every word Maleficus' frown seemed to deepen and he sighed. "Sorry. If you aren't worried about all that, why should I be... So, fuck it. You're the only one who gets me anyways."

Maleficus slowly looked back up at him with a ridiculously huge smile and a confident glint in her eyes. She stepped back over towards him and drew an intricate circle with various runes interspersed within around them both with her claw before giving him another happy glance. "Let's get this done! You will be better by the time it's over and then I can comfortably go into your universe by your side."

The sight of a massive abyss-black dragon wagging her spiked tail around was just too much for him and he ended up snorting out a quick laugh before he was reminded that half of his chest was currently MIA. The pain brought him back to his sense and he laid back down, "This sure seems like a lot for a first date. What do I need to do?"

She titled her head at him in confusion before realizing, "Ah... You just need to accept me and grant me a new name, nothing more. Once I finish writing the runes and filling them with power the spell will begin to work its magic. I have seen my sister use it once with one of her people. I memorized it completely then because it seemed so.. beautiful. It has the effect of linking the two souls together. Though it may change my normal appearance you should be fine as you are mostly machine."

Basillius ran her words through his head again and was caught up on one aspect, "I should be fine?"

Before his words of concern could reach her ears a thunderous sound exploded from the circle before a white light enveloped the two. Basillius' vision suddenly went black for a moment, then, he felt like he was floating in nothingness. In the middle of that nothingness, a pinprick of light exploded, flinging matter through the void. As if on fast-forward he watched as that matter began to turn into galaxies.

With the visions of primordial galaxies flooding his vision he came to a realization. 'I'm seeing her memories right now. Why did the memories start here? ... This is an entire universe... One of the many she's probably witnessed being born or destroyed... Fuck... This is gonna take a while.'

Maleficus opened her eyes after a few minutes and smiled down at Basillius. She could see the qualitative changes that his soul was undergoing despite his appearance of peacefully sleeping. "What a short life, yet so incredibly eventful. You've accomplished more than most of us gods in that pitiful amount of time... The mortals are truly more deserving of our father's kindness than we ever were. You more so than any other mortal."

Outside the veil, mere seconds had passed. For Mizan and her crew, they had just narrowly escaped death. As soon as the beings left the entirety of the solar system seemed to become incredibly devoid of anything. Silence seemed to take hold over the void of space once more. Mizan looked back at Ren and Sven with an extremely concerned look in her eyes. "Did... Did all of that really just happen?"

Ren nodded her head vigorously, "Well ya! Of course, it did hun! Not like we would all hallucinate something like that. Not to mention the side of the ship is still scorched from whatever that light was. So, now that we've survived... we can get right the hell away from this and never come back, right Svenni?"

Sven slowly nodded, "Yeah, I don't care if we get punished for abandoning this mission here. I don't think anyone will blame us anyways. Let's leave."

Vella finally snapped out of whatever reverie he was in and snapped out at the two Sithis, "NO! NEVER! We must stay here and declare this as a new holy site! This scene must be preserved for generations!" As the three began arguing the ship let out a quiet 'ping' indicating a new message before reading it off. "Unidentified craft. We will be bringing you to the -Emperors Glory- for your own safety. Prepare yourselves for EXFIL."
