Chapter 3 - Weapon Appraisal

Chapter 3 - Weapon Appraisal

The shop had an old lady that served the dishes with a small body and silver hair tied in the shape of a bun.

"What food do you have for this much?" Leo said as he held one of those silver coins on the top of his palm. He did not show all his money because he thought it would be too much even though he had no sense of money. If it was not enough, he could take out one more.

She inspected the body in front of her. The boy wore a black and wet cloth with messed up hair. She could guess he was from a poor background and stumbled upon the money or he could have stolen it, but to her, it did not matter as long as she got her money.

"Sit down, take this," She said while taking out a piece of old light yellow paper and handing it over to Leo. Then she left for the kitchen.

The paper contained many words. The writing was crude while the ink was light, but reading it was not a problem. He found a seat near the window and sat on the old wobbling wooden chair with his hands placed on the wooden table.

Looking at the words he knew some, such as fish, boar, and soup while words such as tree wolf, two horned boar, skinned blue tail rabbit, and others were unknown to him. A number accompanied the words, or rather some had numbers. Taking the decision to order the fish soup and roasted boar Leo looked towards the kitchen in search of the old lady who noticed his look and dropped her hands in a water bucket to wash it. Then she walked towards him.

"One fish soup and roasted boar," Leo said as he handed the old and yellow paper back to the old lady who took it and went back to where she came from.

After, 15 minutes of wait came the two dishes. The soup was dark yellow with small pieces of fish floating in it. The top had dark green skinny leaves scattered across it. The meat was dark brown with spots of black over it the quantity was smaller than what he expected.

The taste of the fish was not good he had eaten better ones before in his old world. The meat was hard to chew, and the taste was bad. He wondered if this was how they tasted in this world or if the old lady did not know how to make food. Leo finished both dishes slowly as he had always been a slow eater.

"10 for the fish 25 for the boar," Said the old lady. Leo gave 1 of the silver coin in his hand to the old lady. She gave him one with 50 written on top of it and three smaller ones with 5 written on top for a combined balance of 65.

The noon sun shined bright in the sky, increasing the temperature. The trees did not help the village reduce it, but cold winds still blew from the north which helped. The village still had many people outside out.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

Walking around the village new thoughts came to mind. How was life like in the village? Was it like his old world or different?

The clothes the people wore differed from his old world. This applied to the construction of houses, which were all either made from wood or bricks with no paint over them. The language was also different, but he could speak it. No answers how came to his mind as this body was still his so it made no sense for him to speak and understand this unknown language.

Some food such as the fish soup and boar were like his old world but the taste was different. Jobs like pottery, sewing from his old world were present here.

The village lacked good pathways or road. The people sold what looked to be fruits and vegetables on the sides of the sandy roads with no shops; they sold them in carts made of woods and wheels attached to the bottom.

A thought came to his mind as his eyes met the dagger. How good is it?

After 5 minutes of searching a weapon shop came into sight. It had many weapons like swords, spears, daggers and many more kept on the outside. The construction of this building was much better when compared to the others not only this the further he walked inside the village the better construction the buildings had.

As soon as the door to the shop opened a young lady dressed in a light green dressed approached with a sweet smile.

"Welcome, sir, we have many wea-" Her sweet voice got cut off by Leo's "I didn't come here to buy anything look at this dagger and tell me how good it is," Leo said as he took out the dagger using its blade. The handle faced the girl.

The girl after taking the dagger inspected it with a disappointed smile. The dagger had a silver blade and black handle. The blade was slightly bent. It had black lines that ran along its blade which Leo did not understand if it was for design or for some use.

The black lines in the dagger glowed with a dim light as the girl closed her eyes, but when she opened them, they disappeared. "Well, you see this Elemental Dagger got destroyed you cannot use it with any element. It's nothing more than an ordinary dagger."

What was an Elemental Dagger? He wanted to know more, but that would be weird as from what he guessed this was something everyone in the world should know. Instead of that, another question left his mouth "Where is the nearest library?" This was an easy way to get a better understanding of this new world.

"Library? She asked, looking at him. "You won't be able to find a library here. The nearest one is in Moon Cave City which is hard to reach on foot because of the wild animals that roam the forest. You will have to wait for the morning when the carts set off for the city as it is safer that way."

This would mean waiting till the next day as the time approached evening. Based on what the girl said the carts to the city would have left by now "How much is this worth now?" He wanted to know if it had any value.

"Now it will fetch about 5 gold our shop will give the best deal!" She said with a bright smile.

But his response destroyed that smile "No need."

Taking the dagger from the girl's hand he turned to leave the shop but got stopped by the same voice he spoke to before. "Appraising a weapon isn't free it costs 20 silver."
