I sat for a while in the bar. It wasn’t exactly like I had any assignments that needed to be completed in a hurry or anything.
A few curious 3199 had made their way into the bar area, and one of them was pecking at my feet. I paid it little attention since their beaks were too weak to even puncture my black skin. I looked down at the avian creature and smiled. It was kind of friendly, in a very peckish way.
A notification suddenly popped up on my wrist device, and I moved my hand up to my face to check it out. The notification came from the MTF facility.
I cringed my nose, since I hadn’t really expected any of the systems to still be sending out messages. I opened the notification and read the message.
SYSTEM: Attention all employees on-site. SCP-966 have made their way into the MTF facility. If you are armed and fit for combat, report to the camp immediately.
My heart sank. They could probably handle it... but at the same time, what if they couldn’t?
I got up from the seat and quickly ran out of the room.
I suggest we fly. We will save time.
I nodded, then kicked off the floor before starting to thrust out flames from my feet and hands. ‘Good idea.’
It wasn’t long before I was stopped by a physical object once more though. The airlock to the facility was standing in my way.
I landed on the floor with a soft tap before pressing the door button on the airlock. It beeped aggressively before attempting to open.
The door seemed to break as it was opening, and I sighed. Fine, if I have to break my way out of here I will.
I grabbed a hold of the two door pieces and shoved them to the side. The metal frame of the doors strained with tension, and I pulled them apart. The doors slammed into their sockets and after extinguishing the flames that had formed on my skin, I walked calmly into the airlock.
The other door opened without a fuzz, but a problem became apparent very quickly. Since there was only one door in the airlock now, the air inside the facility began rushing out of the now-open door to the facility.
I jumped outside before pressing the close button, saving most of the air from leaking completely.
Well, that was annoying. I suggest we hurry back to the MTF.
I nodded, spinning around before blasting off once more. It wasn’t far to the MTF camp, but I needed to be as fast as possible.
I landed outside the MTF camp and to my horror, the perimeter guard lay dead on the red sand outside. After spending some time putting their souls back into their bodies I made haste, following the blood trail that was clearly visible as small puddles all the way to the entrance door.
At least the 966’s claws are visible due to the blood staining them.
I opened the front airlock quickly, and luckily the doors were fully functional.
It took maybe 5 seconds between me entering the airlock before I was let into the facility. I looked straight forward toward the reception area, and I saw a battle was in full effect.
There were MTF operatives everywhere. Some were dead on the floor, some were bleeding but most were up and fighting. There were bullets flying everywhere as the operators desperately tried to hit the 966 entities which were seemingly all around them.
I say seemingly because the creatures were entirely transparent. The only thing visible were their blood-stained claws and their vicious toothed mouths.
I quickly made my way over to the battle, saving a MTF from being cut in half by a 966 that was flanking them. I grabbed a hold of the creature, throwing it behind me and into a wall.
“Thanks.” The MTF quickly made their way back to the relative safety of the reception, helping their team members with the other fronts of the assault.
I felt a menacing presence behind me and I turned around, only to be met by invisible claws that slightly dug into my skin. I let out an impressed hum before thwacking the bony protrusions clean off and kicking the invisible fiend in the stomach. The anomaly looked to be relatively unharmed however, and I raised an eyebrow in intrigue. “You’re a tough one, aren’t you?”
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
I channeled my fiery powers into my body once more and closed my eyes. The fire spread all across my body and probably burnt my clothes off in the process, but I didn’t care about that now.
I opened my eyes again and found I was now able to see a rough outline of the SCP-966 creature. It was as if their skin was covered in the same glow that souls do when they are separated from their body.
I dodged quickly as the anomaly tried to swipe into my stomach with its claws. I dodged to the side, grabbing ahold of the creature’s arm before pulling them toward me. As their body came closer to mine, I brought my curled fist up toward their stomach area with a lot of force behind the blow.
My hand made contact with the creature’s abdomen and after a brief moment of resistance the creature’s flesh gave way and my hand tore through its body before I hit their lower spine. It didn’t put up much resistance either and before long my hand protruded out of the creature’s back.
I quickly withdrew my hand from the beast’s stomach and stepped aside as their body fell limp to the ground.
My look of focus turned to one of slight sadness and I looked down at the corpse in front of me with some regret.
“You fought very bravely.”
After paying the creature a final goodbye I turned around and spotted the MTF were still fighting the other anomalies. They looked to be winning, however, and I thought about helping them but I figured my services would be better spent healing the wounded and reviving the dead so I moved to the closest corpse I could find and revived them.
“What happened to you? Why are you black… why are you naked!?”
I was about to heal another wounded MTF when I heard a voice coming from behind me. I turned around and saw it was Alex.
“Uh… surprise?”
Alex snarled at me. “Put some damn clothes on, anomaly. You’re not impressing anyone.”
I blushed and returned my attention to the wounded soldier on the ground. “Can I atleast heal this man before he bleeds out? I know from experience that it hurts quite a lot.”
Alex raised an eyebrow. “You can do what now?”
I bent down and touched the wounds of the MTF soldier. I carefully spread some of my flames around on his skin and the wounds he had closed themselves rather quickly.
“There. All better.”
The soldier I had healed took my hand and I lifted him off the floor. He looked very disoriented, but thankful, nonetheless. “Thanks...”
I nodded with a smile. “You’re welcome.”
Alex looked like she had seen a ghost. Her face was totally pale, and she walked over to me.
“Y-you can... Heal People.”
I shrugged. “Yeah, revive dead ones too.”
My guess is this was too much for her to handle, and she fainted.
I quickly moved to catch her before she hit the floor, and carefully picked her up bridal style.
“There, there...”
I took Alex back to the infirmary. There were a few MTF that had backgrounds as field medics, there was even one guy who was a doctor before he enlisted in the military and was later drafted to the SCP foundation for exceptional performance.
After leaving Alex in the nurses’ care, I immediately headed out of the MTF building to go back to the main facility. I should really get my own room in the MTF building, but for now my standard SCP cell will have to do.
I made it to my cell fairly quickly and got dressed. I took one moment to appreciate the grandiosity of the main facility before I went back to the MTF facility. I have no idea how long it takes for a corpse to be beyond my ability to bring them back, but I was not planning to find that out.
I made haste and quickly reinserted the souls of the different MTF that were lying on the ground. They were unconscious, but alive.
After finishing up with my rounds I headed back to the reception area. Now that Alex was out of commission for the time being, the second in command had stepped up to take her place.
“Hey Avery. Oh sorry, I used your first name again...”
Avery looked at me, a little confused before laughing. “Hah, no worries. Alex is the only one of us that really gets upset with mixing names.”
Avery pointed to a statistics board she had of each MTF member’s vital statistics. They were all looking green, and she pulled me into an embrace. “Thank you. Our team members are more like family than colleagues at this point, losing any of them would be a huge hit to morale.”
I reciprocated the hug. “Yeah, no worries, Jackson. I’m just glad fate would have it that I can bring people back.”
Avery let go of me and smiled. “Seems you’re quite a lot more than just a regenerative safe-class anomaly. But that doesn’t matter anymore. You’re just as much a part of this team than anyone else here.”
I smiled, baring my teeth subconsciously. Jackson looked a little frightened at the sight and asked. “Y-you have a mouth. V-very white teeth.”
I quickly closed my mouth again and blushed a little. “Yeah, they look like they’re made for murder I know... I’ve found I don’t really need to eat any food since I got this new body so it’s not really much of a hindrance.”
Avery cleared her throat. “Well, if that’s all I think it's safe to say you’re dismissed. I know it must be quite a hassle for you to go back to the main facility every time you need a change of clothes or something similar, so I've organized for you to get your own room here. It’s up on the second floor, room 3. The key is here.”
Avery put a key on the table and slid it toward me. “Thank you, again.”
I smiled, this time not baring my teeth. “You’re very welcome, Avery.”
Wow. This looks almost like my cell.
The room they gave me was very spacious and had more or less the exact same layout as my cell did back in the main facility. It must have taken a while to furnish this room, so I was grateful.
I laid back on the bed and felt its softness. It’s been quite a while since I slept, maybe I should...
I couldn’t even finish my train of thought before my eyes closed shut, and I fell asleep.
Sweet dreams.
