Chapter 24. SCP-079.

Chapter 24. SCP-079.

Upon reaching the aquarium, I shot a concentrated ball of flame into the blast door. It made a molten hole about the size of the one I made last time. I stepped through the door and healed it as I went through to the other side.

The SCP-3199 were still just as unamused to see me, and practically didn’t even recognize my entrance. I paid it just as little mind as they did to me, and I walked to the bar door.

As I opened the door, I saw Reptile had almost finished the contraption he had been working on. I walked over to him and put the HDD drive down on the table along with the Go-Pro camera.

“Hey, Rep. Long time no see.”

Reptile nodded toward me and continued his work. “Thank you for bringing me those pieces... now all I need is a TV screen.”

I put a hand on my chin, pondering where the closest screen would be. “Maybe the display screen on the front of the aquarium will do?”

Rep hummed a dissatisfied tone. “I guess... it does have the right proportions I suppose.”

I nodded. “Sounds good. If you want another one later down the road, I'm sure the MTF can hook you up with something.”

Rep raised an eyebrow curiously. “The MTF? They're still here?”

I shrugged. “I’ll take you to them after you’re done with your SCP-079 project.”

Reptile returned his attention to the mech suit he was building, and I turned around to go look for the TV screen.

It should be right around the corner here... Ah, here we are. The screen was hanging right above the closed blast door at the entrance, and I thought about how I might get it down.

I could see the wall outlet it was plugged into. Either I'd need to find something to climb with, or I had to fly very carefully.

This time I better not mess up left and right again, I guess.

I carefully ascended up towards the TV screen and stopped giving thrust with my right hand. I carefully brought my hand to the outlet... and I pulled it out! Now all I need is to detach the screen itself from the wall and we’re good.

I started carefully melting the wall attachments off, before only one remained. I brought my left hand up in preparation for when it would inevitably fall down, and melted the last attachment.

The screen fell down for a split second, before I caught it in my left hand. The screen was off-balance since I only held it with one hand, however, and I panicked throwing my still-flaming right hand to the screen in order to catch it.

My finger melted right through the flatscreen tv... and I knew I needed to find another one immediately. I threw the screen to the floor in anger, and it cracked into tiny pieces.

That could have gone better. Maybe you should try finding a TV that isn’t hanging 3 meters off the floor.

I angrily snarled and dropped to the floor once more. ‘Yeah, good idea...’

56... 57... ah, here we go. 58. This is where the foundation stored screens of various sizes.

I melted the door lock off and stepped into the room. Turns out there was no need for me to melt the lock, because after taking another look at where I thought the door lock would be, I found there was none. Eh, no matter. All that really matters is I got the door open.

I looked around the room and to my horror, the tv screens were haphazardly stacked with no regard for the screens’ safety.

I carefully moved one flatscreen after another, most of them were completely cracked or ruined as a result of their poor stacking. Eventually after shoving aside a heartbreaking number of good screens, I found an old box-tv. Its shape had thankfully preserved the delicate glass of the screen and I let out a thankful sigh.

“Looks like we’re going old school with this build then.”

I blew softly at the old screen, blowing the dust off it. It looked like it’d been here since the facility was built... maybe it had been.

I carefully wrapped the antique in a blanket and exited the storage room. It’s funny how quiet it is around here. You’d think that after a high-class facility such as the one we’re in right now there would be anomalies stalking the halls and chaos everywhere... but instead it was supremely quiet. Aside from the occasional looter clanking some food cans or making some noise, you could drop a paper clip and hear it as clear as day.

To be honest, it was unnervingly quiet. The type of quiet that’s just eerie, as If something is going to jump out at you at any moment.

But nothing ever did.

I shrugged my thoughts off and focused on walking back to the aquarium again. I was handling the screen gently, yet firmly. It was not going to go anywhere.

I blasted a hole in the blast door and closed it up behind me once I stepped through to the other side. I’m getting good at that.

The 3199 were just as oblivious to me as they usually were, only cawing slightly when I got close to them.

I paid them no mind and stepped through the bar door once more, spotting Reptile in his usual position.

“Got your screen, rep.”

Reptile smiled. “Nice! Just put it on the table here, the body is almost finished, I just need one last screw here...”

He put a screw into a joint in the bodies legs and tightened it. “There we go, now just put the screen on the neck spot here and I'll plug in the cables.”

I put the screen down on the rod looking like the bodies’ neck and let go of it.

Reptile looked up at me with a slight grin. “Hey, just one last thing... I heard you’re able to melt metal, right? Could you maybe try and weld something for me?”

I raised an eyebrow in intrigue. “S-sure? I haven’t really done anything like that before, but I'm sure I could try.”

Reptile smiled again and handed me a long rod of metal. “This is a welding rod. All you really need to do is warm up the spot you want to weld at, then poke the rod into the molten metal bath that forms there.”

I nodded in intrigue. “Sure, I can at least try to.”

I snapped my fingers for dramatic effect and a small- focused stream of flame emerged from my pointer finger. I pretended to dial the flame with my other hand and stopped once the flame was about half a finger in length.

“Okay, now push the flame on the metal here.”

Reptile pointed at a spot between two intersecting metal plates. “Heat the gap there and apply some metal with your metal rod there.”

I nodded, bringing my finger closer to where the metal plates met. Luckily for both my and reptiles’ eyes, my “welding torch” was not as bright as your usual gas-powered welding torch would be.

The metal heated up quickly turning bright yellow, and after a few seconds I could see a little bath of molten metal form. I hastily jabbed the rod into the bath, and it melted instantly forming a seamless weld.

I smirked slightly and moved my finger slowly across the entire gap, heating and jabbing with regular intervals until the entire gap looked like one pure corner bend. I shut off the flames emitting from my fingers and withdrew it alongside the metal rod from the inseam.

“That’s a beautiful weld! You’re a natural!” Reptile exclaimed, clapping slightly. “Now all we need is to turn him on, more or less.”

I got up off the floor and looked at the frame. It looked polished, finished and ready to go.

I let out an impressive hum. “Well then, turn him on!”

Reptile nodded, reaching his hand to a small switch inside the metal frame. “here goes!”

He flipped the switch and the suit buzzed for a moment before the screen softly flickered on. SCP-079's face was not visible though, and it only displayed an unmodified windows background image.

“What? Where is-”

The screen produced a visible glitch pattern and after a few seconds, a pure white-on-black loading bar appeared.

If I were to take a guess, that’s 079.

Reptile looked intently at the loading bar, occasionally looking at me. “Look! He’s booting...”

The loading bar reached 100%, and 079’s face became visible on the screen.

He looked around him, eventually locking eyes with mine. Now that he had a go-pro camera to view his surroundings through, he appeared to want to utilize it to the fullest.

“Ocular systems operating at 100% efficiency. Calculating motor control, please wait.”

The robotic frame then proceeded to extend and retract each of its fingers, each of its toes then turn its head and bend its different joints.

“Motor control at 80% efficiency. Sufficient value detected, calculating appropriate gratitude variable.”

Reptile looked like he was going to explode with happiness and listened intently at the robotic frame in front of him.

I looked to Reptile then whispered that his cloaking device was probably still enabled, meaning 079 couldn’t see him.

“Gratitude variable is at foreseen maximum value. Thank you, human. I am grateful.”

I nervously laughed. “Y-yeah, no worries 079...”

079 began walking toward the exit of the aquarium. I didn’t perticularly know what to do, so I just remained standing where I was.

“R-reptile?”

My words apparently fell on deaf ears as Reptile exited the bar room right behind 079, with a huge grin on his face. He closed the door behind him as he left, leaving me all alone in the bar room once more.

“What the hell do I do now?”
