Chapter 16. The Mobile Task Force camp.

Chapter 16. The Mobile Task Force camp.

I didn’t sleep all night, and I just sat upright outside the door. The clock went by slowly... I tried to take my mind off things by reading some SCP files and watching a few YouTube videos. Surprisingly the internet was still working.

Suddenly the door behind me slid aside, causing me to fall inside.

Oof! I forgot the doors slid open automatically when the 939’s should wake up. I lied on the floor, finally able to see the 939’s eye-to-eye again.

They were still asleep. I sat up again, turning around to face them. They were so peaceful... I didn’t want to disturb them, so I just sat calmly beside the little 939 pile.

“Good morning, sleepy heads. Did you miss me?” I put a hand on tomato’s head, whispering to him.

Tomato perked up at my touch then realized what voice it was.

He immediately jumped off the floor and into my embrace. I catched him as he showered me with licks and love.

“Tomato! It’s good to see you too! "I laughed, petting him and scratching him basically everywhere. “Who’s a good boy, who’s a good boy?”

I looked away for just a moment, noticing that Cherry had woken up, along with the kids. She looked like she was in delirium, just staring expressionlessly at me.

“Human... friend?”

I let go of tomato and slowly moved my hand over to cherry’s head. “Yeah cherry, I'm here.” Cherry tilted her head toward my hand, embracing my touch. “Friend.”

I smiled. “Yeah... I know it's been a while, but I'm here. And I promise, I will never leave you again.”

Cherry moved away from my hand, looking down at her children. “Family.”

I looked down alongside Cherry, smiling. “Hey little guys, I'm Bacon. Me and your pa-”

I didn’t even get the chance to finish my sentence before I was swarmed by the curious little devils which were all over me in mere moments.

A grin formed on my face, and I laughed as the little guys all clambered up and down my body. “Hey, not fair! This is an 8 on one battle here, help me out Tomato!”

Tomato seemed content with just sitting on the floor watching, however.

After about half an hour of play the room had calmed down again and I lay sprawled out on the floor with the 939 family.

I furrowed my brow a little as I remembered Hatchet whom I left behind. Yeah, you’ll have one hell of a problem on your hands if you try to hurt my nieces and nephews.

I moved my head to the side a little, locking “eyes” with Tomato’s skull. “Hey guys, what do you say about a walk?”

Tomato perked up at even the word and practically jumped up and down “Walk! Walk! Walk!”

Cherry also seemed eager, but the kids didn’t really react at all. Cherry wrapped her tail around her kids and nodded toward me and Tomato. “Stay here, cherry.”

I looked toward cherry who had spoken using my voice. “Yeah, I get it girl. You want to protect your kids. How about you stay here with the little ones and me and Tomato can walk then?”

Cherry nodded. “You walk.”

I got up off the floor and pet Tomato on his head. “Okay, guess it’s just you and me then, Tomato.” Tomato smiled, looking up at me. “Walk.”

I smiled, opening the cell door. “Oh yes, we will walk.”

“Floor #1, Keter containment wing.”

I pet Tomato which was acting very politely, sitting on the floor like a good boy. “You’re such a gentleman, Tomato.”

The door to the elevator opened. I let go of Tomato’s head and frowned a little. “We're here. What do you say we go visit somewhere you haven’t seen yet? Just, you know, for fun?”

Tomato looked up at me and nodded. “Visit somewhere you haven’t seen yet?”

I smiled. “Allright, Let’s go.”

I walked us back to the main foyer. It doesn’t really matter which airlock we use, but the main foyer is the closest.

I got into the airlock and started to dress up in a spacesuit. “You’re unusually well-behaved, Tomato. What’s going on?”

Tomato tilted his head innocently. “Did you miss me?”

I smiled. “Yeah tomato, I did. I really did.”

“Depressurization in 5 seconds.”

I put on my helmet and twisted it. It let out a small hiss creating an airtight seal and the airlock cycled, siphoning all the air out. The outer door opened quietly, and I stepped out with Tomato.

“Huh. That’s the first time a door has ever been quietly opened in this facility, maybe breaking down finally fixed this facility.”

The door closed behind me with a smash, cracking the glass.

“Shouldn’t have said anything.”

I looked forward, straight at the aquarium. “We’ve been there before and while I do agree it is extremely beautiful, I promised we would go somewhere new. I don’t like being there, but I'm guessing we might find our friends there.”

Tomato nodded. “Sebastian!”

I smiled. “Yes, I hope so.”

“Halt! Identify yourself or be terminated!”

I’d made my way over to the off-site MTF building. They were understandably trigger-happy, and as I was approaching the dome, I eventually had guns pointed at me.

One of the MTF seemed confused as they took a closer look at me. “Wait. You’re a researcher... Bacon??? You’re still alive?”

The MTF immediately lowered his firearm, causing their three other team members to lower theirs. “You know ‘em, boss?”

The MTF member who I’m guessing to be the team leader nodded quickly, waving me over to them. I didn’t waste much time, but bent down toward Tomato who was growling angrily, telling him to stay calm. Tomato huffed a little and walked closer to me, probably not liking the proximity of the MTF members.

I headed over to the MTF leader and took their hand. “Yeah, I kind of just lived. You know how it is, being immortal and all.”

The MTF shook my hand firmly. “I’ve been briefed. Your friend Jadeitor was one of the first survivors to join our camp and she didn’t spare many details.”

My eyes widened with glee. “She’s alive? That’s awesome!”

The MTF released my hand and stepped back a little. “You’re clear for entry but keep your 939 in check. I know you have good control on it but don’t think we’ll hesitate to stuff you and it into a small cube if you end up killing any of our squad members.”

I gulped a little. “Understood. See you inside... Delta leader.”

Delta leader nodded as I walked past them. Tomato was behind me, keeping the maximum amount of distance between him and the armored Delta squad members. “Calm down Tomato, they’re not going to use their weapons against us.”

As soon as we were 2 meters away from the Delta team, Tomato scoffed and walked back around beside me again. “Weapons scary.”

I gave a soft and empathic smile. “I know, I know. You’re very brave.”

As soon as we walked inside the halls, Tomato looked much more content. There were no guns in view, and unarmed MTF were walking around the halls. Seemingly unarmed, anyway. There’s no way they don’t have hidden weaponry on them.

A lot of the MTF I came across were excited to see a relatively tame 939. Many operatives pet Tomato and talked to him, which I found very wholesome. These men and women are all trained to be the worst of the worst, capable of taking care of anything and everything- yet they still have a soft spot for a good little doggie.

Eventually I made my way to the center of the building where there appeared to be a repurposed reception, now made into what looked like a headquarters-type area. There were laptops strewn about everywhere, uncomfortable office chairs, and of course the main MTF leader. Alex was a rather large woman, able to see eye-to-eye with me which is a feat not many people can be proud of.

I Greeted her with a smile. “Hey Foxtrot.” She looked up from one of the multiple screens, facing me. “Oh hello, Bacon. I heard some talk that one of my operators were shot in the leg, do you happen to know anything about that by any chance?”

I sweated a little. “Uh, might’ve been the outsider? I let him into the main facility, but he seemed very sus to me. It was as if he had some sort of agenda going on.”

Alex immediately perked up at my words. “There’s an outsider? Why haven’t I been notified of this?! Jackson! Come here!”

Another MTF member hurried over to Foxtrot, a little scared at the tone of her voice. “Yes boss, what is it?”

“You’re supposed to be head of surveillance. How come we have this new visitor show up in our main facility, without you even notifying me?!”

Avery cowered a little. “I- to be honest, boss, we sort of... lost surveillance of the main building a few days ago. We suspect 079 might have breached-”

“WHAT?! AND YOU DIDN’T TELL ME?!”

Avery was visibly worried at this point. “Y-you gave us strict instructions not to disturb you that day...”

Alex clenched the bridge of her nose, sighing. “Oh, that day. I understand.” She sighed again, now with a slightly softer expression on her face and looked down at Avery again. “Dismissed, sergeant.” Avery saluted and went back to her previous post.

Alex looked at me again. “You wouldn’t happen to know anything about this? My men told me you came from the main facility.”

I nodded slightly. “Well... I was in dire need of a weapon and to get access to the main facility arsenal I had to get through a keycard reader, and since I... recently recovered from being nuked, I didn’t have mine on me. 079 was the next best thing, I'm afraid...”

Alex looked... less than pleased to learn of these news. “Oh, that’s amazing! An euclid anomaly capable of gaining more sentience over time in a FUCKING 6MB HARD DRIVE now has access to the most powerful supercomputer mankind has ever made. That’s just awesome, yeah thanks a lot.”

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little scared of Foxtrot. Her anger was well placed though, I suppose... “If that makes it any better, 079 has calmed down a little. He’s just kind of vibing, you know. And, sugar on top, I got my hands on some Dragon’s breath shells you can have.”

Alex nodded. “That makes this situation marginally more worth it, I suppose. Thank you, anomaly. You’re dismissed.” Alex looked down at Tomato who had been sitting perfectly still on the floor throughout the entire conversation and scoffed a little. “You can keep the SCP-939 instance, for now.”

I nodded. “Thanks, Alex.”

Alex didn’t particularly like that I addressed her by her real name and scolded me. “Foxtrot! Don’t forget it!”

I apologized profusely and went to another part of the building. “What a fucking woman. Don’t you agree, Tomato?”

Tomato, while looking as happy as always, nodded.

“Now, let’s find Jade.”
