'Dear Lady Luck... this is fucked up.'
"So, you are the one."
Listening to the words coming out of the individual in front of him, the puny human kept his head lowered as he couldn't bring himself to look up at the individual.
'Did he already figure me out?' He thought as he looked at the individual.
Looking at him, it was the same person who had handled the two criminals earlier. He was wearing a black cap with a few blond hairs sticking out. His face was clean and looked like that of a teenager.
'Why am I here?' The puny human questioned his position as the guard looked at him for a moment and then at the document in his hand.
"Ray, an officer from the south district."
The guard said this as he flipped through the document and looked at the menacing guy.
"Brent, an officer from the north district."
The menacing guy, Brent, saluted the guard as he nodded his head and looked towards one last person present there.
"Beth, an officer from the north district."
The girl named Beth, the same height as Brent, also saluted as the guard nodded his head.
"You three remember why I brought you here, right?" He said this as he turned around.
"The criminals here are slowly going crazy."
Looking outside the window, he pointed at the group of criminals.
"The report says that there have been some groups forming among the criminals. It looks like the guards here weren't guarding properly."
He looked at a guard as that guard flinched.
"You can leave." He said this as the guard left the room, leaving only four of them.
"Your mission is simple. Identify the group and break them from within." He said this as he looked at the three officers directly in the eyes.
"If you fail, some casualties will occur." He said this as the three officers flinched.
"Uh... may we know what those casualties are? General Kent?" The girl named Beth asked as General Kent just glared at her.
"Why? Are you planning on failing?" He said making her flinch.
"Sigh. The casualty is that there will be a huge war between the criminals. That will create a lack of officers to stop them. And..."
"There will be a lot of escapees." Surprisingly, those words didn't come from General Kent.
"So, you can talk." General Kent said as he looked at the puny human wearing rag clothes.
The puny human, surprised by himself, lowered his head as he avoided eye contact with General Kent.
"Then, head out. I hope you succeed," General Kent said as all three of them left the room.
Clack
The puny human, now freed, quickly tried to walk out. He didn't want to stay there anymore.
"Brent, is that guy an idiot?" Beth walked up to Brent as she pointed at the puny human who was walking like he had to go to the emergency toilet.
"Ugh. This guy." Brent quickly ran as he grabbed the puny human on his shoulder.
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
"Where are you going?" He asked as he stopped him.
The puny human remained silent for a moment before he opened his mouth.
"To the mission?"
He said this as Brent frowned.
"Are you crazy? You think walking out of this office freely like this will make the other criminals outside not be suspicious of you?"
"...Oh." The puny human spoke as he stood still.
"What should we do then?" He asked as he barely managed not to stutter.
"Follow me." Brent said as the puny human quietly followed him.
--
'General Kent, so he must be at the same level as that person, General Ameri.' The puny human thought as he sat on a bench.
He had a scary image of General Ameri on his head, and now General Kent was added to that frame.
"Ahahaha, those guys fighting made me want to spill some blood."
"Oh, why don't you fight me then?"
"Hahahaha"
The criminals around them kept talking, oblivious to their surroundings. It was like they weren't even afraid of the guards around them.
'Anyway, forget about the sun; there isn't even a sky here.' The puny human thought as he looked upward.
He had thought that he would be able to see the sky in the outer section, but, as it turns out, the outer section was a huge circular dome.
'This is one crazy place.' He thought as he kept staring at the roof.
Some light sources were attached to the roofs to lighten up the dome. Here and there, he saw something like a sealed window too.
"What are you staring at?"
Brent, who was sitting in front of him, said as he also looked upward. Beth also did the same.
"Just looking at the infrastructure." The puny human replied as naturally as he could.
"Ah. You worry me. You should be careful." Brent said as he started eating his food.
"...Ok."
"And what is up with your face? Did you fall face first on mud or something?" He said this as the puny human realized the situation with his face.
"Brent, stop nagging like a mom already." Beth said as she looked at the puny human.
"Ray, right?" She said this as she smiled.
"Yes." The puny human said as he nodded his head.
Beth, this woman was of the same height as Brent. Both of their hair colors were brown, and not only that, but... both of them had the same scar on their right eyebrow.
"What are you staring at?"
Without realizing it, the puny human was staring at her face.
"...Sorry. I was just wondering if you two were twin siblings."
"Hmm, how did you figure it out?" Brent asked, as he appeared surprised.
'It would be more weird if I didn't.' The puny human thought as he opened his mouth,
"Just a hunch." He said this as he also started eating his food. Looking at the bread on the plate, it hit him with the reality that he still wasn't free.
Bam
Suddenly, a cup of water slammed on their desk as the puny human flinched.
"Hello, lady. I haven't seen you here before. Are you new?"
A bald man, while sitting on the table, said as he looked at Beth. Two people were standing behind him as if they were guarding him.
'What's up with this old man?' The puny human thought as he stopped eating and looked towards Brent.
'Hmm?'
Brent appeared neutral as he kept on eating his food.
'Guess its not a big deal.' He thought as he also continued eating the bread.
"Yes. I was just brought here this morning." Beth, the target of interest, replied as she smiled.
"Oh. If you were brought into this prison, then you must be one dangerous woman."
The bald man said as he suddenly grabbed Beth's hand.
"Hmm. It looks like you are quite skilled." He said it with a smirk.
"Ahaha. You flatter me." Beth said as she slipped her hand out of his grip.
'Are they flirting?' The puny human thought, but he didn't dare look at them since he knew the consequences.
Looking at Brent, he seemed to have finished his bread and was now just sitting there with his eyes closed.
"Anyway, why don't you come with us? Sitting with these cowards doesn't suit you at all." The bald man said this as he specifically pointed at the puny human.
"Uhm... why not?" Beth smiled as she took her plate and stood up.
"Haha, you don't have to carry that." The bald man said as he took the plate, handed it to one of the guys that was standing behind him, and ordered him to carry it.
In a matter of time, they disappeared within the crowd.
"...Should we separate here?"
Trying to get out of the situation, the puny human said as he looked at Brent, who still had his eyes closed.
Upon hearing the question, Brent opened his eyes as he looked at the puny human.
"...No. You will be coming with me." Brent said as the puny human became speechless.
"Why? Won't it be easy if we went separate ways?" He said.
"That's why I didn't stop Beth. But with you, I fear you will slip up, so you will be coming with me." Brent said, which the puny human couldn't reject, so he quietly followed him again.
"I don't know if you are bold or just stupid, but keep doing what you are doing. It will help all of us." Brent said as he stood up.
'What is he talking about?' The puny human thought as he simply followed him.
"Beth says that she will be fine and is already getting some information." Brent says as the puny human looks at him for a few seconds.
"...And how do you know what she is doing?" He questions Brent as he stops.
"Sigh. Beth," he simply calls her name as if she will appear.
'Ray, it's me, Beth.'
Suddenly hearing Beth's voice on his head, the puny human flinches as he takes a step backwards.
"W-what is it?" He asks, wondering if he has finally lost his sanity.
'Relax. It's my ability—telepathy. I can have a two-way conversation with anyone I want within a specific range.'
