"SHIT!!!"
From a cage, a loud scream resounded as the owner of the voice stood up.
He was wearing a dress that looked like rags. His face and body were dirty, making him unrecognizable.
He looked small and powerless.
The puny human lowered his head as he stared at the ground below.
"I'm bored."
He muttered, as he didn't know how long he had been trapped here. It was so dark that it was impossible for him to tell if it was day or night.
"I haven't seen any light since the day I found myself here." He muttered as he looked around.
'Wait, does this world even have a sun? It does, right?' He thought as he started to scratch his head.
"..." He went silent for a moment before he extended his hand forward.
"S-system?"
He called, but there was no response.
"...Status?"
He tried again, but again, there was no response.
"SHIT HEAD."
He cursed, feeling hopeless.
"OF COURSE THOSE SHITTY NOVELS WITH THE SYSTEM HAD TO BE FAKE."
He screamed as he felt like his sanity was breaking apart. It was nothing like the novels he had read.
"HEY SHUT UP."
A voice from beyond the bar resounded as the puny human flinched.
"...Ohhh humans."
Seeing humans after a long time felt assuring.
'Wait? What is this language?'
"Why are you howling like a beast? You got a death wish?" The guard threatened as the puny human flinched again.
'...Thats not English. Wait? How can I understand them then?' He thought as he just scratched his head for a second before opening his mouth.
"S-sorry"
Some unrecognizable language came from his mouth. He felt surprised that he could speak their language.
"This bastard. Since you apologized, I'm going to forgive you this time."
Bam
The guard, feeling pissed, said as he hit the bar once and left the scene.
The puny human stared at him, leaving before calming down.
He sat down, crossing his legs.
"Hmm, what are these?"
He muttered as the information regarding the language and the place he was in started resurfacing in his mind.
Emporial Prison, the world's greatest prison
World-wanted criminals are locked up here to keep the peace within the world.
The only prison with a record of zero prison breaks
"...Shit"
He cursed, as that meant there was no way for him to get out of this place.
"First of all, how did this weak body even get here?" He muttered to himself, feeling angry.
"No wait."
He froze, as it seemed there was more information resurfacing.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
"Oh..."
He muttered as a small smirk formed on his face.
Clang
When he was distracted by his thoughts, a sound of the bar opening resounded as the puny human was taken by surprise.
Looking towards the source of the sound, he was surprised to see a person fully armed from head to toe with the guard from earlier.
"Go in; you will be staying here until your punishment is determined." The guard said this as he pushed the armored guy inside the cell.
'What? He is a prisoner too.' The puny human thought as he observed the guy.
'He is wearing more armor than the guard.' He thought as he looked towards the guard.
"What?" The guard said this while closing the bar.
"Nothing," the puny human said as he moved his eyes, avoiding the guard's gaze.
"Crazy bastard," the guard muttered as he left the two prisoners alone.
The armored man was silent. He looked around without minding the puny human that was in the same cell.
Clack clack
He walked a few steps before he stopped and sat on a rock. He sat motionlessly, like a statue.
"...Hello," the puny human said as he looked at him.
The armored man sat still for a moment before he moved his head towards the puny human and nodded his head.
"Uh-"
The puny human tried to talk, but the armored man turned his head and remained still.
'What the hell?'
The puny human thought as he stared at the man for a moment.
'...No no it's better this way.'
He thought as he turned around.
'I mean, it's been so long talking to anyone that I have forgotten how to talk.'
He sulked.
'Anyway... with this information, I might be able to escape.'
He thought as he started to feel nervous.
Performing a jail break was something he never expected to do. But staying in this place was bad for his sanity. He had to leave.
'Let's see if the sun even exists in this world, haha.'
He snickered within himself. From an outside view, he looked like a rat eating bread while standing.
"But I would need some materials for that." He looked around.
'...This place is completely empty.'
Cling Cling
Suddenly, bell-ringing sounds resounded as the puny human shuddered.
'She's here,' he thought.
The place became cold as he turned around and looked towards the bar.
There, he saw a plate that had some bread and two cups of water. That's it. There was no one there, only the plate, which wasn't there before.
Someone had placed that plate there and already left.
The mysterious lady, that's what the puny human referred to her as.
She carried around bells to inform the prisoners of her arrival. Whenever she came, there would be a cold atmosphere.
The puny human had never seen her, but he knew it was a girl.
It was because he had talked to her once.
It was the first day he found himself here.
--
"Huh? What is this place? Why is it so dark?"
Suddenly finding himself standing in darkness, the puny human felt uncomfortable as he tried to look around.
"Huh?"
Thump
As he tried to move, he fell to the floor.
"W-what is this?"
He started feeling uncomfortable in his own skin.
His body felt foreign to him.
"Wha? When did I become so skinny?" He said this as he checked his body. All he could feel was bone; there was no fat.
"...Shit. I must be having nightmares again. Argh, those shitty assignments; once I hand them to the professor, I am going to drink all night."
He said this as he ignored everything and went to sleep.
"Goodnight nightmare. Please come back later, but not now. I'm tired."
ZZzzzz
Not long after, he started snoring as he fell asleep.
Cling cling
Suddenly, the environment around him became cold as he heard a bell-ringing sound.
"Arrrgggh. Let me sleep."
He said as he woke up.
Looking around, it was the same environment.
"What? Am I still dreaming?"
"...Are you new here? Boy?"
The puny human heard a quiet and sweet sound as he looked towards the place where he felt like the sound was from.
"Looks like you are."
This time, he heard the voice from behind, surprising him.
'Is this a nightmare?'
Just like in a dream, he wasn't able to think properly.
"Looks like you are very confused."
She said as the puny human couldn't pin point where exactly she was talking from.
'Am I having a lucid dream?'
He thought as he opened his mouth, "W-who are you?"
"It's such a pity that there is no one to welcome you."
Seeing that the lady wasn't responding to him and was just talking, the puny human frowned as he looked around, but to no avail; it was pointless. All he could see was darkness.
"But no worry. I, the lady of XXXXX, humbly welcome you to our world. I hope you have a good stay."
"W-what did she say?"
Feeling overwhelmed, the puny human froze as he tried to process what the mysterious lady said.
"Then, meet you later."
"W-wait"
The puny human called, but the cold atmosphere around him disappeared as he no longer heard her voice. There was no bell-ringing sound; she had gone away.
For some reason, he couldn't remember the name of the lady. She had clearly introduced herself, but he wasn't able to hear it.
--
After that day, the puny human tried to talk to the mysterious lady whenever he could, but she never replied.
"She already left."
He muttered as he stood up and walked towards the bar.
Compared to his first arrival here, he could see quite easily. Before, it was only darkness, but now it was darkness plus silhouette.
Picking up the plate, it felt quite heavy.
'Is it because it's for him too?' He thought as he looked at the armored man.
Taking a cup, he walked toward the armored man and handed it to him.
"Here. Its water. You drink it."
'Shit. What do you mean by you drink it? Arrrgh all those time alone has reduced my communication level to that of primitive.'
The armored man raised his head as he extended his hand and took the water.
"...Do you want some bread too?" He asked as he showed the armored man the plate.
'He can see, right?'
The armored man looked at the plate for a moment.
He slowly raised his hand and denied it.
"...Ok"
'Fool, this is like a luxury meal here.' He thought as he walked toward the place he had previously sat.
The armored man took a sip of the water and went back to being a statue.
'Ahhh, I'm hungry.' The puny human thought as he picked up the bread with bliss.
Opening his mouth, he took a bite.
Clank
He should have checked before eating.
