Ch-2

"ARRGH"

The puny human screamed as he bit something hard.

'SHIT'

He cursed as he felt his teeth getting loose.

"What the fuck?"

He voiced his displeasure as he looked at the bread with a frown.

He couldn't see much, but he ripped the bread apart as he found some metal tools within them.

'This is?'

He couldn't see properly, but he could feel them.

'Wait a minute.' He thought as he put the tool aside and checked the other bread.

There were originally four big breads. He had already opened one, and now there were three left.

Just like with the first one, he found some tools in them too. They were all different tools.

The weirdest thing of all was that they were the exact tools he needed to escape this prison.

'Is she helping me? Why now of all times?' He wondered as he looked at the tools.

'If I meet her after this, I will have a talk with her.'

He stood up as he quickly hid the tools within his clothing.

Due to his baggy, rag-like clothing, it didn't look like he was carrying anything. He calmed his racing heart as he stood still for some moment.

He looked at the armored man for a moment before approaching him.

"Hey. Aren't you tired of sitting straight like a statue?" He asked as the armored man sat still for a moment before turning his head towards the puny human.

He shook his head as the puny human scratched his head. "You can't talk?"

He asked, wondering why he wasn't talking.

The armored man again shook his head.

'Hmm, what a coincidence.' He thought as he wondered for a moment.

He started thinking about something as he sat down. The armored man just stayed still.

The puny human looked at the armored man and then at his own hand. He looked back and forth for a moment before he finally stood up and called the armored man.

"Hey."

The armored man didn't take as much time as before as he looked towards the puny human.

"Uhh... Do you know sign language?"

The armored man tilted his head in confusion, as he hadn't heard about that.

"So you don't." The puny human said as the armored man shook his head.

"Well, it's a type of language that requires a lot of hand movement. You can communicate through your hand just as efficiently as while talking." He said as the armored man just stared at him.

"You don't believe me?"

The armored man shook his head, surprising the puny human with his straightforwardness.

'Hmm, well, its fare since I am a stranger. It would be more weird if he just trusted me.'

The puny human thought as he opened his mouth.

"All I can say is to trust me, at least temporarily. Since there is nothing to do here in this place, I am sure it will be helpful. I won't ask for anything in return."

You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version.

The puny human said as the armored man lingered on that thought for some moment.

He nodded in agreement as the puny human felt relieved.

"Well then, let's start with the basics."

The puny human extended both of his hands.

"First of all, there are five elements of sign language. Handshape, Movement, Palm Orientation, Location, and Facial Expression"

"Since you are wearing a helmet, you can't use facial expression, so you will have to compensate that with your body posture and hand sign precision."

Although the armored man was staying still like a statue, the puny human could tell that he was listening attentively.

--

'I didn't think I would end up teaching it to someone.'

The puny human thought as he looked at his hand. Turning backward, he could see the statue-like armored man staring at his hands too.

'Surprisingly, I can speak their language without much difficulty.'

All this time, he communicated with the armored man with their language. He sometimes tried to speak English, but the armored man didn't understand at all.

'Anyway, if I take the information that surfaced in my mind into account, it would take quite some time to finish planning my escape. Sigh, I will have to work fast.'

He thought as he again stared at his hand.

'Can I really do that?' He thought as a hint of excitement arose in his eyes.

Information regarding this place wasn't the only thing that resurfaced in his mind.

And those information weren't just something that suddenly resurfaced.

'They were this body owner's memory.'

Although the memory wasn't complete and completely filtered, the puny human could feel various emotions just in those little memories.

He was lonely, scared, regretful, empty, and most of all... he was greedy.

The previous owner was one greedy bastard.

'I will have to learn about his identity once I escape from this place.' He thought as he looked around.

The armored man was busy on his own, and there wasn't anything else.

The puny human sat as he extended his right hand and opened his palm. His heartbeat started to rise as he felt excited.

He felt a small gust of wind around his palm as a small bob of shining particles appeared around it.

'This world has magic and mana.'

With a big grin on his face, he observed the shiny bob. But,

'Argh'

For him, it had been a long time living in this darkness. His eyes were already adapted to it. Due to that, looking at the shiny bob hurt his eyes as he flinched from pain.

The shiny bob instantly disappeared as the puny human's concentration was disturbed.

Looking backwards, it appeared as though the armored man hadn't realized it. The puny human sighed as he had a long way to go.

There wasn't much time left; he had to improve his control as much as he could.

--

Some days later,

"Then that's it for today."

The puny human said as he stood up.

The armored man, now named Tinman by the puny human, sat still as he moved his hand.

Thank you

He gestured as the puny human also replied using sign language.

No problem.

The puny human returned to his usual spot as he sat there, lost in his own thoughts.

'It's been quite a long time.'

If he had to guess, it had been around two weeks since the information surfaced in his mind.

In these days, the mysterious lady completely disappeared as she didn't come; instead, another guard came.

Tinman, being a quick learner, was now able to hold a decent conversation.

In some conversation, he tried to ask him about his condition and the deal with those armors, but he denied it. He even denied saying his name, so the puny human mentally decided to call him Tinman. Then he didn't ask further, as he wasn't really interested that much.

Regarding his mana control, he was now able to conjure a good amount of mana and was able to look at the sparkly thing.

From what he knew, he could learn spells or make his own, but he didn't know how to.

'...Now, all I need is an opportunity.'

Of course, the opportunity wasn't going to come by itself; he would have to make one himself.

CLANG

Suddenly, a loud sound of metal resounded as the puny human looked towards the bar in surprise. Upon looking at the bar, he was more surprised to see three guards opening the bar.

"Hey you. Come out. It's the day for the determination of your punishment."

The guard who had brought the tinman here spoke as the remaining two approached the sitting tinman.

Tinman didn't resist at all; he obediently stood up and walked outside with them.

Though, before leaving, Tinman looked towards the puny human and nodded his head as a form of goodbye.

Puny Human just stayed silent as he witnessed them taking Tinman away.

Sigh

'It's going to get boring.' He thought as he scratched his head.

'...Ok. I'm escaping today.'

He thought as he looked around and took out the four tools that the mysterious lady gave him.

'This should do.'

He chose a tool as he hid the others.

'I have to work fastly.'

He thought as he started to dig the corner of the cell. These past few days, he has been secretly digging without letting anyone know. The ground was made of dirt, so it wasn't very hard for him.

'It should be enough.' He thought as he placed all the dirt he dug in one place.

'I have to finish it before he comes.'

--

After a while,

Following his regular routine, a guard came with a plate of bread and water.

Stopping before one of the cells he used to deliver to, he placed the plate on the ground and slid it inside the cell.

As he did so, he looked at the prisoner. It was dark, so he could only see the prisoner's silhouette.

"W-what?"

Unlike any day, what he saw wasn't the regular silhouette of the criminal sitting, but something else.

With a sword-like thing dug upright on the ground, the criminal appeared dead, as its head was missing.

There was only his body, no head.
