Settlement of Safehaven - A Hearthtree Series
Chapter Thirty Two- chipping Wood.

Chapter Thirty Two- chipping Wood.

"Oh for the love of... you got to be kidding me" Jack yell into the storm as the sea waves crashing into the stone docks drench him for the hundred times it felt like. Every time he tries to complete making the shrine to Ràn, he gets a damn prompt!

Invalid use of material required to make a shrine.

After blasting the makeshift shrine into pieces for the tenth times, Jack stumbles back through the rain to the Temple of the Gods to access the data online to see what going on. After several hours of reading, he steps out of the temple cursing up a storm.

Kari jumps into the temple pulling him back into the building. "We got a problem! A couple of my people just killed two drowned men. The dead lost to the sea, and I got twelve of my Guild watching the beach at the sea gate."

Crash of thunder drowns out what he was about to say, Glaring up to the ceiling for a moment, "I need to make a shrine to Ràn to repel the Undead, but Loki's patch has forced all new shrine and temples to be done by hand, no magic skill only. We can use stone or wood, and right now we don't have any granite. And I need a log about a foot in diameter and about ten feet in length. The sawmill is across the creeks."

"What about the trees that are flowing down the creeks, maybe we can snag one?" She was commenting back.

"We can try but it going to be hard, the force of the creek could pull anyone trying to snag one if we did not get attack by anything. We got ten-foot waves in the bay, and the waves are getting stronger, our only chance to get one is to the west side near the sea and hope we can snag a tree and pull it onto the shore before it is knocked out to sea."

About then, two more people rush up. "Ma'am we just kill three more undead, and one was an undead lizardman."

Shaking his head at the news, "I swear it only gets worse and worse. Okay, Kari gets some more people down to the sea I will move some of the troop to the wall and man the two ballistae.

It was several hours later with a dozen reborns helping me that we finally got a tree pulled onto the beach down by the docks. Two of the reborns drown after being pull from snagging the tree, Falworth the Strong and Grom the Hammer both reappears at the Hearthtree a few minutes later. During that time over half of the Guild was fighting off the Undead as they crawl to shore from the waves.

The strangest part was having to kill Falworth the Strong in his undead form while he was fighting beside us, trying to kill himself. After a few hours, I was told a large block of wood was in the warehouse waiting for me after the lumberjack and carpenters cut the block out of the tree. After that, several more trees were being pulled in the same way by other of the reborn just to past the time and to fulfill the quest that was put up by the lumberjacks.

I spent the next four days using chisels, several saws, and a knife to carve a woman that looks as close to Ràn as I could, with a net in her hands ready to cast out to sea out of the oak log. Standing al least six feet tall I spent the next few hours using sandstone to sand the wood down after Kari told me not to be in a hurry to put the shrine up.

Later that day, Kari sat down drenching wet as I was cleaning up the tools I had used. Nodding my head at her. "Ready for me to put this up?"

"Guild still wants a few more hours to finish up the quest they started. They like the city quest, and I know that I like the quest, already racked up over thirty reputation points. I know a few of the member would love to keep going."

"I could see about adding it to the quest list after the rain goes down from what I read the down men are going to be up and down the coastline. Anything drops off them?"

"A few coins, seaweed, a flask of ale, some potions and scrolls, oh and each of them drop an urn with their names on it. Each of the urns has a thirty-day quest to bury them in a graveyard. There are three that have pieces of a treasure map, which is why everyone wants the Undead around longer. There is three faction reputation in the urn Quest."

Bury the Dead

Bury the urn in a graveyard to keep the dead from returning in thirty days, 100 Experience, +1 Reputation with Spirits of the Light, -1 Reputation with Spirit of the Dark.

Option: Use the urn to raise the dead, use as components in necromancer spell, +1 to the League of Undead.

Looking over the quest. "Wow, so how many urns?" I asked.

"Three hundred and seven so far, every time we kill a wave of them, another wave comes in. Otherwise, the dead come up to shore and stand there dripping water with their arm hanging down moaning or collapse to the ground waiting for someone to walk in. It has not bee fun fighting them in the rain, and sometimes it rains so hard that it hard to spot one until they attack, Some of the dead are from level one to level ten, the higher-level one we have to team up on to kill them. Then your troops on the wall had killed a few before we got close to them."

"I need to get this up soon so we can get some fishing done, and to keep a few ships from invading our land. I not heard from Ann this morning. She was about a week from here looking for the group that was heading this way. They have been having a hard time crossing the streams along the way. I'm hoping to she will contact me soon." Jack said, while looking worried.

"Don't worry, she can take care of herself, Gema arrived a few days ago after Ann sent her back because the creeks levels were getting too dangerous for a citizen to cross. Gema was not too happy but understand that Ann can die and return and she couldn't."

"To change the subject, do you have any skills outside of the game you can teach anyone, I found a couple of people that can crocheting and make yarn, a guy that can weave a rug," Grinning, "not a hairpiece. Another that wanting to learn to make cloth and sail tack, several carvers, a handful of brewer and winemakers. I was thinking of hiring a lot more craftsmen to teach different crafting skills, like soap and candle making, fishnet and lures, canning, glassblowing the list is long." Beaming with enthusiasm.

"Needlepoint and gardening had several submerge greenhouses in Alaska to grow food to sell to the locals year-round. Some sewing and leatherwork which I have as skills now. I have been helping in the garden here, but I agree with you at the meeting the other day that we need to focus on growing and storing food for sieges and disasters." She said, thinking about her past.

"Good to know, we going to have a monthly meeting soon to get a list of everyone skill set. It is nice to know how to do things without relying on magic or AIs. Okay, I will be ready to put this up in a few hours I need at least four people to hold it up so I can mount it to the pier using my stone spell.

Kari was about to walk away only to turn back toward him. "Might want to hold off on purchasing crafters for a while, I heard from a few friends that there are a lot of refugee fleeing their homes After all this rain stops and the creeks and river go back to normal we could end up swamped.
