Chapter Thirty Six - The End of the Rain.

Chapter Thirty Six - The End of the Rain.

Three more players disappear we didn't get any of their last names just the first. I found out from Lester that a level five rogue can take spy as a class which allows them to take on a persona, change names, or even appear as an NPC. Which means anyone of the new Citizens that are here or will arrive in the future could be a spy. So after an intensive hunt turning up nothing except that three people fled north and the tracks disappear somewhere in the rain soak land. Sometimes by mid-morning, the sky begins to clear up letting the sun start drying out everything. I ended up helping shore up the walls as the creek final crested a few hours before sunset.

Everything I ever made was in the hovel that was destroyed; it was the first thing I built, which was where Ann found me staring down at the hole in the ground. Staring down at the water rushing by in the sewer, I was thankful that Gema rescue Bill the Cube, which is now four square feet in size. He is being held in the old outhouse I made. Clara and Fire have rebuilt the goblin hovel and updated it to a Level two hovel.

I don't remember much after that other than Ann gave me something to drink and waking up the next morning with me in her arms. She shushed me when I tried to get up.

“Morning, dear,” she kisses my cheek.

Feeling the bad taste in my mouth and a slight hangover feeling, “I feel like I ate the bark off of a tree. Ugh, what did you give me?” I ask.

She was holding on to both sides of my face in her hand. “You collapses in my arms after being up for forty-eight hours and trudging through the mud, which you should have let people like me do since we are trained for it. I understand they kill some citizen, but you started scaring people going off like that. We are your family, too, and you not alone. So Mr. Mayor let us help you.” searching my eyes before kissing me.

She hands me a wineskin of water, “Before you go out there. I had Clare and Firework on rebuilding the two hovel, Mesa-la said the building was too far gone to rebuild through the interface. The first build is done and holding four families, and the second building is being worked on. Fire has been drying out the ground and one of the dwarves been using an earth elemental to dig out the new basement. That was about as far they got before sunset. So you are on Mayor duty to organize the settlement. Once that done by noon you are meeting me for lunch, then you can build as much as you can until six at which point you, me and a few others are going to have dinner.”

“Okay,” I said, staring at her still cup between her hands.

She arches an eyebrow, “Okay as in okay we are doing this or okay as in not sure okay?”

“Okay as in your right, I kind of flip out thinking I could have done like what happen to my wife and child.” Kissing her forehead, “I should not have gone out with the others without finding you. I just felt helpless.” hugging her close.

“I told everyone that you would be at Town Hall by ten we have a few hours to cuddle,” she whispers into my ear.

By the time I walk out of her hovel that she shared with Kari, it was ten in the morning, and I was smiling. We did more than cuddle, and I do feel much better knowing I have someone to lean on that cares for me. Seeing the foundation of the hovel being expanded and built upon. Ann pull me away to the Mayor hall where I spent the next two hours calming down the citizens of Safehaven over the attacks in the settlement.

“What you mean it safe here? We all want a law enforcement someone to keep us safe while the troop guards the walls,” I hear someone yell in the back of the full Town Hall.

Several other people in the crowd were agreeing. I sign weary. I rather dig a latrine than deal with this mob. “I hear you, and I will bring it up with the council.”

“Why can't you decide as you have before.”

“Yeah, you hire troops before!” as more and more agree with the man, The feeling of a headache was coming on when Ann and Hans walk in.

“Attention citizen!” Bellow Hans make me wince, “We need to talk to the Mayor the longer you are here, the longer we are not able to convene the council later,”

Several of them began to grumble as Hans pointed out the door. Ann walked up and gave me a peck. “Thanks for the rescue I was getting a headache from all the bickering about a backup sewer, to it is taking too long to get clean water, when can they cross the creek or when can they start making new farms?” I grumble while holding my head.

“You can thank Sarah she came to find Hans and me when you got swamp by the townsfolk.” She said.

“Boy, am I glad you are the mayor,” Hans commented staring out the door,

“Can you get everyone here this afternoon about five to decide on an enforcement officer and how many enforcers are needed to help him or her?” I ask Hans

He nodded as Ann pull me out of the chair, “I'm off duty until after lunch,” Mock saluting Hans, “You are in charge! Sir!” As Ann pulling me out the door giggling.

“But?” Hans looks puzzled as the door closes. “How did that happen?”
