Jack woke up to the sound of rain that been pouring for days. Both of the creeks are above their banks by at least two feet forcing us to have to block both gates with at least three feet high walls, or we will be flooded. The sewer I built will reach its limits in a few hours forcing those families I put in there to have to move up and move into the warehouse and several of the lodges and hovels. Making more shelters in the future will be a priority to get everyone into a safe home.
Getting very little sleep didn't help me with all the flooding. Now it is just the matter of waiting for water goes over the bridges both east and west. A few hours ago two large trees slammed into the bridge to the east damaging it, and a large pile is building on the west bridge just below the falls. Blasting the trees to splinter have been a tiring process for him and several of the mages in the settlement for most of the night. On top of that Ann and Gema went scouting to the east a few days ago just as the rains started to find out where the large warband of reborns are and how long before they will get here. The fact that the Gods have stopped the raiding and wars, for now, should give us a reprieve for now. But this downpour has been going on for a week and don't seem to be letting up anytime soon.
I did get a Brickwork's' hut built near an area of good clay to the north along granite creek. And a drying kiln done before the rains hit, only to make a three-foot-thick wall four feet high around it to keep the creek from flooding it was not fun in the rain. Was soak for two days when I finally drag my ass back to the Safehaven. Sarah Waterworks have been pumping water out of the enclosure for most of the night because of being a water mage. If not for her, a lot of the city would have been flooded.
Pounding on the door broke into his thoughts, glancing over to the other side of the bed where Ann should be, he groans as he got up and click on his work clothes.
"Coming! On my way." pulling back the latch and stare at Kori, "What?"
"West bridge is gone, the water will crest in ten hours about three feet above the bridge level. We are going to have to shore up some of the walls. I got several people on it now. In a few hours, we are going to be like an island the only place the water is not rising is the seaward side and part of the southeastern wall and southwestern wall because we are above sea level." She brushes her wet hairs from her eyes. "You also have a visitor at the temple and it not Frigga she calls herself Ràn said something about Goddess of the sea or something."
Staring at her for a moment, "So a goddess is second to flooding?" grinning at her.
"Hell Jack if she can stop the rain I kiss her ass, I figure since you going to be awake I better let you know about our guest. Oh we going to have to do a supply run for food, the garden plots are getting flooded, and the next planting will have to wait until the water recedes."
"See if anyone can raise the beds another foot and get an earth elemental to dig in the mud until it can get to dryer soil to build it up, maybe you and a few others can get the seed to grow?" I walk past her into the rain.
"Not going to matter too much the rain will drown them out," she said.

Glaring to the north, "How about hunters any of them back yet?"
She shook her head, no.
"Okay get together a team and a wagon and port to one of the other cities and get some supplies. Damn! Forgot portal and gating is shut off for now. We figure out something. Let me deal with our guest.
Temple of the Gods
Strolling into the temple of the gods I found a woman standing ten feet tall with a golden net drape across her shoulder wearing a blue gown, and her hair is like the color of seaweed and her green eyes pierce him to his soul.
"Jack Stonewright, I have heard so much about you, I am here with Frigga permission." The woman spoke.
"I take it you're Ràn?"
The woman nodded as she walks around the interior of the temple.
"So what do I owe the pleasure or displeasure of your visit?" narrowing my eyes at her.
"Oh the hostilities almost thick enough to cut with a butter knife." her right hand came up to her throat as a show of false surprise.
Shaking his head, "Look every time one of you - the gods," doing air quotes on gods, "show up my life get more complicated. So let get past all the formalities and get down to the chase. What do you need and what it will cost us?"
Looking taken back by the bluntness, she hesitated for a few moments before nodding, "I need a shrine on your docks!" she blurts out.
"You want to be added to the temple here?"
She is shaking her head, no. "No, I have the sea as a temple. I need a shrine put at the dock because Loki's riot has destroyed almost all of my shrine. Which seem to have pushed my influence down to the bottom of the god pool if I don't gain any back over the next year I could be recycled back into the mix and end up a grasshopper for all I know!" crying out to him with tears streaming down.
Feeling a tightness in his chest. "What do we get out of it?"
"I can block the sea of all travel until early spring." Looking at him with hope.
Thinking this could slow down attack for a bit from the sea but thinking about the food problems with fishing boats. "What about fishing vessels? We are getting tight on food and was looking at fishing from the sea after figuring out how to hunt the sea serpent, there, not much fish after they take their share."
"I can calm the waters around my shrines for a mile. If you wish it to be further calm more of the sea, you can put more shrines out up, and down the coast, I have no control over the sea marsh or rivers."
Quest
Build a Shrine
Built a shrine to Ràn in three days to keep intruders from coming from the sea and calm the water around the shrine for a mile radius.
1 copper coin tribute daily +1 to fishing
1 silver per ship daily +1 to sailing
1 gold daily at sunrise +1 defending opponent from the sea.
+1000 experience, +10 Settlement morale, other rewards unknown.
Do you accept yes or no?
"Yes, I build your damn shrine, growling at her."
Ràn claps her hand and jumps for joy laughing then stop. "Oh, there one bad thing!"
"Here it comes the hammer," he snorted.
"Frigga has let me know that I can attack settlements that destroyed my shrines, but she insists that everyone get attacks so as not to show favoritism." Trying to look sweet and innocent, "If you get the shrine built, it can stop the undead from the sea from attacking within a mile of here." Closing her eyes, expecting him to yell, after a moment she opens one eye to peek only to see his back as he walks away in the rain shaking his head in disgust.
"So... I guess that was an okay." as she said as she faded away.
Warning! Ràn has awakened the dead to avenge the deaths of her followers and the destruction of her shrines!
