Polly had set up a night with Dolly for their date and it had arrived. Polly looked at herself in the mirror as she took a couple of breaths.
"Knock knock," Summer said as she knocked on Polly's door before entering the room.
"Oh him, Mom," Polly said looking at her with a smile.
"Don't worry," Summer said, sitting on the bed, "You look great."
This was her daughter's first date, and with how much she liked Dolly, she knew that Polly wanted everything to be perfect.
Polly knew her mom was right but she couldn't help but look in the mirror again.
Summer put a hand on her shoulder. "You don't think Dolly is nervous too? I'm sure she is thinking the same as you in wanting your date to be perfect too but you can't overthink it. Your dad was the same way on our first date."
Polly looked at Summer. "He was?"
"Are you kidding?" Summer chuckled lightly. "He was practically a nervous wreck. He wanted the right dinner and the right movie. What he didn't know was the food could've tasted terrible and the movie could've been the worst I'd ever seen but it still would've been great. You know why? Because I was with him."
She continued, "It's great to put effort into your date. It shows you care, and really want to make the night special for the other person. But you have to keep in mind that all the person really wants is to spend time with you. That's what matters to them the most. That's exactly what I told your dad."
"Wow..." Polly said. "I had no idea."
"I have no doubt in my mind that's how Dolly feels as well," Summer assured her daughter with a smile. "As long as she's with you she's happy."
Polly smiled and wrapped her arms around Summer. "Thanks, Mom. You always know exactly what to say."
Summer chuckled. "I'm a mother. That's what I'm supposed to know.
"Polly?" Filbert walked into the room with a basket. "I finished putting the food in the basket."
Polly looked at him. "You didn't have to do that. I told you I would."
Filbert shook his head. "It's no problem. You needed time to get ready for you're date." He handed her the basket. "Have I told you how happy I am for you by the way?"
"I'm pretty sure you did," Polly said. A grin came to her face not long after. "Now I think it's about time you got one."
"My cooking is all the love I need thank you," Filbert said. "Now hurry, you don't wanna be late."
Summer looked at the clock. "Filbert's right. You have a date to get to."
Polly chuckled at the two of them. Part of her wished her dad was here to see this but she knew he was watching her and was no doubt happy for her. She put her mask on.
"Okay, I'm going," Polly said. "I'll tell you guys all about it when I get-"
The sound of knocking was heard causing Polly to stop. She went to the door and opened it.
Dolly was standing there with her own mask off and a smile on her face. "Hey Polly," she said. "I couldn't wait any longer."
Polly giggled a bit. "You too, huh?"
Dolly looked at the basket. "I see the food's all ready." Her eyes went to Filbert. "Thank you for that, Filbert."
"Like I said to Polly, it was no problem," Filbert smiled at the artist. "You two must go and have a good time."
"Oh, I know we will," Dolly said, putting her mask on. "Shall we go, Polly?"
Polly nodded and waved goodbye to her mom and Dolly before leaving with Dolly.
NNN
The spot that the two women arrived in was a spot that Dolly liked to come to for inspiration or just to sit down and enjoy the view that it gave her. She knew it was the perfect place for her date with Polly. The moon lit over the hill where the two set their picnic. Polly nodded that it was a little foggy out but also nodded that it didn't seem to bother Dolly. The artist was humming peacefully without a care in the world as she took her mask off and gazed in awe at the view in front of them.

"Isn't it beautiful?" Dolly turned to Polly with a smile on her face. "I said this was the perfect spot for our date, didn't I?"
Polly looked at the view. Dolly was right. The town looked beautiful from up there.
"How often do you come here?" Polly asked.
"A couple times a week," Dolly replied. "It's beautiful whenever I come. I've made some of my best works here."
"Well thank you for showing me," Polly sat down next to her. She looked up. "The stars are beautiful tonight too."
"They make the view even better," Dolly said. "I've already got an idea of what I want to try."
"Oh really?" Polly asked as she set her mask next to her.
Dolly leaned her head on Polly's shoulder. "Let's just say it's a picture of the greatest person I know enjoying the view like I hoped she would."
The two of them blushed a little. They would both say that their date is going perfectly so far. There was a fantastic view and they were enjoying each other's company. They always did but both of them knew tonight was special.
"Have you ever brought Coopy here with you?" Polly asked.
"Do you have to ask?" Dolly grinned. "There's no way I wouldn't have brought him here the second time I came. He loves the view just as much as I do."
Polly chuckled. "I figured as much."
Dolly took her head off Polly's shoulder and got her sketchpad out. She started drawing as Polly turned her attention back to the view. She was surprised that she had never been here before.
When Dolly finished her drawing she showed it to Polly. It was a picture of the blonde glazing at the view. Polly smiled at the picture, loving Dolly's work as she always did.
"You know, you're maybe one day you could get your art in a museum," Polly said.
"That used to be my dream," Dolly said. "To open my own art museum."
Polly wrapped an arm around Dolly. "Maybe it's a dream worth revisiting?"
Dolly leaned into Polly. "I think I have all the audience I need for my work for now." She handed the picture to Polly. "You can have this by the way. Could be something nice to give to your mom if you want. I'm sure she would love it."
"Oh, I know she will," Polly chuckled, taking the picture. "Thanks."
Dolly gave a peaceful sigh. "Of course."
The two of them stayed close to each other, looking at the view for a few more moments, before Polly spoke again.
"Hungry?" She asked.
Dolly smirked. "Starving."
Polly placed the basket between them and started getting the food out. They had sandwiches, mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese bites, and cookies.
Dolly let out a gasp. "Mac and cheese bites?! It's been so long since I've had those!" She grabbed one and ate it.
"I love them," Polly told her, eating one as well.
"I think this finally calls for some music," Dolly said.
"Music?" Polly asked.
Dolly nodded and turned to Rylan who was sitting down under a tree nearby. "Ry, if you don't mind?"
"Of course not, Dolly," Rylan said. He started playing on the violin next to him.
"I didn't know he played the violin," Polly said.
"How could you?" Dolly laughed. "We never brought it up."
The music Rylan played was calming and romantic. Polly loved hearing it. It felt like it was expressing how she was feeling right now. It was a foggy but calm night and she was on a peaceful date with Dolly. One that was going very well and that made the blonde very happy.
Dolly could see how much Polly was enjoying it and that made her smile. Rylan never disappointed with his violin playing.
The two of them continued eating for a while as the music played. They watched as Rylan played, glancing at each other from time to time. For Polly, this was going even better than she had hoped. Her mom was right. There really was no need for her to overthink it. Some of have preferred a fancy dinner at a restaurant or something like that as their first date but for both her and Dolly this felt right. More personal.
"Do you wanna dance?" Polly asked, after some time.
Dolly's eyes widened in surprise, her cheeks turning red, as she began coughing.
"Are you alright?" Polly asked concerned. "I didn't freak you out or anything did I?"
"No, no!" Dolly said quickly. "You just...caught me by surprise." She smiled softly. "I'd love to dance with you."
Polly smiled and held out her hand. Dolly noticed that it was shaking a little bit. It was so adorable. The artist giggled and took her hand.
The two of them walked a bit closer to where Rylan was playing. They looked each other in the eyes and began to dance. They moved along with each other. Dolly was a bit nervous at first but being with Polly was reassuring. That allowed her to shake the nerves off and enjoy the moment.
"Polly?" Dolly said.
"Yeah?"
"This is the best night of my life," Dolly said.
Those words made both of their hearts beat. They made Polly feel like a missing piece of her own heart had been found and put back where it needed to be.
"Do...do you really mean that?" Polly asked.
"I do," Dolly said with the softest smile on her face. "Meeting you was the best thing that ever happened to me. I didn't think there was anyone in the world who could understand how I felt. But not only have you proven me wrong on that, but I've made some of my most beautiful works because of you, I was able to make some friends, and I'm no longer alone. I feel complete with you, Polly. I have no idea what I'd do without you."
"Dolly..." Polly felt as if she could cry. She was right on that as tears did come from her eyes. She worried she would cry a waterfall. She took a moment to look down as she wiped them. When she looked up, she noticed the artist in front of her was now in tears.
"I really mean it, Polly," Dolly said.
"I know you do, Dolly," Polly replied. She wiped her friend's tears away with one hand as she held the other on the side of her face. "I feel the same way. I can't even begin to tell you what the thought of losing you would do to me. You're a very special person, Dolly. And..." She bit her lip a bit, taking her time before saying what she did next. "...I feel you're my special person."
What happened next caught Polly completely by surprise. Her eyes went wide as Dolly had captured her lips, her arms wrapped around her neck.
The blonde was frozen for a few moments. When she could respond, she wrapped her own arms around Dolly's waist, the two of them sharing a warm, loving kiss.
Time had passed before they broke it. Their eyes locked into each other again.
"Um..." Polly didn't know what to say.
"That was my first kiss," Dolly said with a giggle. "Who would've thought it would've been with the most amazing person in the world."
"I could say the same thing," Polly said. "So I guess this means..."
"We're a couple now?" Dolly leaned into Polly, her eyes closing and her smile returning. "You better believe it. I love you, Polly."
Polly hugged Dolly as she closed her own eyes and smiled warmly. "I love you too, Dolly."
