Chapter 4: Elven Magic

After 8 hours of studying in my room, I can now talk in the Elven language. The language is pretty easy if you understand the underlying basics of the words. Because of this new fluency in this new language, I now know what are the three books that are in my father's possession. The books are Elven research magic books. The Dominion's magicians are researching new magics such as long-range communication, teleportation, flying and an anti-magic field. The underlying fundamentals of these magics are comprehensive in the logic and usage but these books are just fundamental research and they are not complete yet. I need to continue researching these magics by myself if I want to be able to use them.

"Herm, I have to create a workshop to further the research as well as improve my other skills. The land beside the farm is a nice place to build one but I think it's better if I make it underground."

I ponder while looking outside my window from my room onto the farm.

"For the farm, I need to create several magic constructs to help me tend the farm and make them autonomous." I need to get the advance and master level of conjuration and enchanting to be able to create the magic constructs to help the farm. I need to wait for several days until Miss Librarian comes to the farm. I can only make a small construct using some stones as I test my conjuration and enchanting on them. What do I need to focus on for the next several days I wonder. I look at one of the books. "Teleportation... If I can make this work, I can-" I smiled as I know what do I need to do for the next several days. I need to create a workshop and research the elven magics.

"Here you go, advanced level books for conjuration, enchanting and elemental magic. How is it? Did you learn anything from the books last week?" The librarian asks me as she looks around my new workshop that I just made last week. "Yeah, I learn a lot. By the way, can I drop by for a second at the library? I want to look at something." She suspiciously looks at me because of my request but then my mother interjects our conversation. " If you are going to town for a little bit, can you buy some fertilizers for the new plants? The plants need them because of their slow growth and remember that the new plants are your responsibility, dear. You tell me that they will sell well on the market?" I look back at the librarian's face and she just sighs as she has to accompany a little boy doing his errand. Little that she knows that I have a scheme for the library.

...

At the library, I ask Miss Librarian to find me a book that can teach me about materials used for conjuration.

"Is it a list that you want or...?" She asks me as she is trying to find a book that is based on my request.

I back away and step lightly from the front desk as I reply to her question, "Yes, something like a list or a book on what materials are used in conjuration or something." I already know the basics about the materials but I need to know more so I can know what materials to use or not. As she is busy finding a book, I look for a place where I can etch a rune for my teleportation magic. I already know that the windows and the front door will be locked and internalized with magic that will alarm the guards. If I can put a teleportation rune that I just made, I can go in and out without waiting for her to give me the books. Three books for a week are not enough as I cannot wait. I only have several more years to prepare and max out my skills.

"That place looks good." I see a small place that is very dusty and neglected near the wall between the shelf and a table that looks unused. I carved the teleportation rune on the side of the table and fill the rune with my magic and the runic stone that I use. I quickly clean it up and head back to the front desk.

After she finish finding a list, she returned to the front desk and gave me the list that I ask for. "Thank you, Miss." After I set up my prototype teleportation rune, I get out of the library and get the fertilizers before I go home. Mission success is what I told myself silently. Honestly, my stealth without any abilities is pretty good so far.

Alright, I have read all three advanced books so let's take look at my stats.

[Stats]

[World Skills]

[Enchanting: 40]

[Combat Skills]

[Conjuration: 40, Elemental Magic: 40]

"They are increasing but only 20 for these three skills, I need to master these skills by today so forgive me for trespassing." I already used the prototype teleportation and test it beforehand. The range for the magic is good enough for the distance between my house and the library. "Alright, concentrate and pour in my magic."

[Teleportation in 3,2,1...] I can hear my ability countdown as if there is a voice in my head.

As the countdown hit zero, I teleported right into the library.

"I'm in. Now let's look for those books." For the next several minutes, I spent my time in the library to find the master-level books for enchanting, conjuration and elemental magics. I stumble upon some suspicious books that have the label 'Secret' on the packaging and on the description, it tells me that only certain people with authorization can view them. I disregard the warning and open the packaging neatly as I need to put them back again to avoid suspicion. I read the titles of the books.

"Master Conjuration: Only for Those Who are Worthy, Enchanting: The Lost Art and Elemental Mastery: Forbidden Knowledge. These books are what I am looking for! Let's bring them back and read them." I teleported back to my room with the books that I 'borrow' and I did not sleep for the whole night.

...

I read and read until I close the final book that I 'borrow' from the library and silently talk to myself, "They should have included these 'master' books with other advance and beginner books. What a hassle that they must separate the knowledge into several books as if they do not want other people to learn, I understand much more by studying these 'master' books. I only need one night to really understand and master the skills." But again, leveling my skills is different than getting a specific or unique skill. Conjuration, enchanting and elemental magic are the fundamentals for those specific and unique skills. I read from this master-level enchanting book, the way of preparing and enchanting something can only go so far without the specific and unique skill of each enchanter from their class. Unique skills of an enchanter can be acquired through class-specific or through years of learning. These books only give me teach me to understand the whole concept so I need to gain those unique skills too. I can enchant normal master craft items with one enchantment but if I want to craft a unique master craft with multiple enchantments, I have to gain that specific skill. The same thing applied to other skills as well. That is why a class is important for the uniqueness of each person.

"So, my learning does not stop here then. Thanks to Eternity, I got my 'Unchained Skill', it will help me a lot if I can gain other specific skills from other classes but where or how do I gain unique skills?" I open my stats to see the difference from what I just learn.

[Enchanting: 100]

[Conjuration: 100, Elemental Magic: 100]

I have maxed out my skills. It is great but there is no unique skill that can be used under enchanting for example. If I can find an enchanting skill that can make me enchant multiple enchantments for one item, that will be great. I quickly sent the books back via teleportation before sunrise. I put them back on the shelves and teleported back to my room. I am drained of my magic pool because of the teleportation. As the sun rises, I tell myself, "Let's industrialize this farm into an automatic farm!" but before that, I need some materials for the magic constructs to make them.

After a quick wash, I go downstairs to eat some breakfast with my mother who had already woken up. Both of us have breakfast and tell my mother that I need to go out into the woods to get some wood and ingredients.

"Okay, but please be careful. Do not wander far too deep into the forest."

I regain my magic back from breakfast. After washing the dishes, I walk out of the house and look around me, "Alright there's no one around. Let's test this flying magic skill. I hope I do not break any bones. Activate Flying!" I hover around at first to get used to the magic. It is pretty sweet and awesome to fly but I can feel the magic drain from this prototype magic. I need to refine the input of this skill honestly.

"Well, I need to stop thinking and need to find some materials first. Then I can focus on other stuff."

Slowly, I fly to the edge of the Darkwood forest near the Dark Mountain southeast of the city, inside of the Elven Dominion territory.
