On the outskirts city of Arranaire, a conquered Elven city of the Basileia Kingdom is where my mother gave birth to me on the 1st of Eternity in 1100 M.E. inside our small home. My father was a knight-captain of the 21st Azure Battalion and he died, 7 months before I was born, in defending the city of Arranaire from the elves who tried to retake their sacred city back.

The Basileia Kingdom is located in the north of the Great Continent, a landmass that emerged at the start of a new era which is called the Magic Era. The Great Continent is the biggest landmass on the northern side of the world. Humans from The Frozen Wasteland traveled down south and started living on the northern side of the Great Continent. The Frozen Wasteland is the 'North Pole' of this world and there are a lot of mysteries and undiscovered locations in this world except for the places that have been discovered by scholars and adventurers.

Several human clans established villages separated from each other and after a few years, the humans started waging war with each other to take control of the lands in the north. It was not until 99 M.E., a certain hero called Basileia united the humans under one clan and established the 1st human kingdom on the Great Continent called the Basileia Kingdom.

A similar scenario also happened that will form the Elven Dominion on the south side of the Great Continent. Researchers and explorers from the Isles of the Ancient Elves saw the emergence of the landmass which intrigued them to explore it. The Isles of the Ancient Elves sent a detachment to investigate the new continent called the 1st detachment in 2 M.E., and they quickly spread across the south with one thing in their mind, to research the land and explore the new magics that they felt from the emergence. The 2nd detachment was sent 6 months after and led by an Elven Princess from a noble family in Elven Moon City called Arania. Princess Arania established the Elven Dominion to help centralize and govern the new Elven nation on the Great Continent in 5 M.E, with her guidance, the Elven Dominion flourishes for the next several hundred years.

The first ever recorded history of the meeting between the humans and the elves was in 116 M.E. when the Basileia Kingdom destroyed a mountain of the Great Highland for the kingdom's expansion to the south side of the continent. The Great Highland is a linear sequence of interconnected mountain chains of high mountain summits that separated the south and north sides of the Great Continent. Through this act, the elves and the humans met and the elves are suspicious of the humans because of the Kingdom's action. After 10 years of espionage and intelligence gathering from both sides, the Basileia Kingdom invaded the Elven Dominion in 126 M.E. and they are at war for several hundred years. A saint from the Basileia Kingdom who is wary of this war and eager to make everlasting peace with the elves tries to persuade the kingdom to stop the war with her faction which is called Norsileia and she was successful. The pact was called the Sacred Pact, forged, and signed by the leaders of the humans and elves in 500 M.E. at Norsileia Capital on the west side of the Basileia Kingdom. Also, through this pact, the saint gains the independence to create and established her own nation, the Norsileia Pact.

Even though the Sacred Pact is forged, the peace was on a thin thread as the atrocity is still happening on the elves and non-humans caused by the humans in the Kingdom. The atrocity of slavery, even after Pact, the Kingdom did not ban the act of slavery for the elves and non-humans as they see them as sub-humans and products. Meanwhile, the Norsileia Pact bans slavery as per Saint's request as she views that all intelligent lives are created equal and they have a good relationship with all other nations on the Continent. Because the slavery and to avoid a full confrontation and war, both the Dominion and the Kingdom participate in skirmishes because of slave hunting happening on the continent. But things changed at the start of the first millennium.

In 999 M.E., the Kingdom invaded the Elven Dominion which broke the Sacred Pact and the Kingdom did not give any reason behind the invasion. Norsileia heavily opposed the invasion by the Kingdom into the Elven Dominion territory. The Basileia Kingdom saw the opposition of Norsileia as an act of siding with the Elven Dominion and invading Norsileia as well. After several years of the newly started war, a splinter group of Basileia's generals betrayed the Basileia Kingdom as the coup staged by Alexander Red failed. Red and his generals took over the eastern side and establish a new nation which is called The Red Federation. An ambitious man who tried to take over the Kingdom not because he was weary of the war but because of his lust for power.

The Red Federation has taken control of key important forts in the east and is being a thorn to the Basileia Kingdom despite the nation being newly created. The Forts of the Five Warlords are being handled by Red's five greatest generals and they defended their country well in the north against the Basileia Kingdom meanwhile Red handled the main capital and his two forts against the Elven Dominion which he also tried to expand south to gain more territory and slaves for his soldiers.

In 1069 M.E., Norsileia's city, Norfileia, has fallen into Basileia's hands and the three forts near the city. This gave a great advantage to the Kingdom's campaign into the Elven territory. A few years after that, in 1088 M.E., the Basileia Kingdom managed to enter the Elven Dominion territory and captured Arranaire City from the elves and encircle the Red Federation in the east.

That is the summary of the history that I can gather from my late father's history books inside my father's study even though some of the details are not very clear and are very one-sided because the books are written by Basileia's historians. Other than the history books and diaries, there are some magic books that he kept in his study but the books are in Elven language so I can tell that he got this from his war campaign against the elves. The books will be a great start for me to gain skills and knowledge but I do not understand the Elven language. I need to go to the Arranaire library and get some Elven language books to learn new skills as fast as possible.

"Kyle, come down here and let's eat!" My mother's voice can be heard downstairs calling my name.

"Yes mom, I will be down there soon." I closed the history books and put them on the shelves on the left. All the books on the left shelves are the ones that I already read and understand. As there are only the elven books on the right shelves which I do not understand the language. I run down the stairs and go to the dinner table.

"Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to my dearest son! Happy birthday to you!"

My mother surprises me with a birthday cake that she made all by herself.

"So, this is why the kitchen is so loud while I was reading upstairs. Is it delicious though, mother?" I teased my mom as I saw how cluttered the kitchen is on her back. She tried to make me a cake.

"I already told you there's no need for a cake, a simple meal with you is enough. We already gave most of our money to the Kingdom for the yearly taxes yesterday so we-"

"Shhhhh, I know. Sheesh, I just wanted to make my son happy on his 8th birthday. You are only 12 years old and you are giving lectures to me. Hmph... Therefore, I do not like you reading those mature books. You are being too mature despite you are only 12 years old. You should go out and enjoy life with other children in the city and not with me, helping the farm."

"But, if I am not helping you, who else will? It is not like we have anyone else near our house and farm. We are on the outskirts of the city and the mayor does not care about us here. Besides, if I am not helping you mom, you will not be able to finish the chores on time too" I laughs as I teased her. My mother's face went red as she heard it as both of us know that she is bad at farming.

"Mou, you dare tease your mother, Kyle! I will take back the cake and eat it alone myself!"

"If you eat it alone, you will get fat you know. Ahaha" I laugh as I banter with my mother and make her flustered with every reply that I made.

"Tomorrow I will go into the city; I need to get some groceries and seeds for the farm. Can you help me?"

"Tomorrow? Yeah sure, I need to go to the town's library as well too. I need to get some Elven language books. Do you want a cooking book too, mom?"

"Mou, you clean your own dishes then. Hmph!" My mother sulks as she turns her head to the left and acts as if she is angry. She then peeks with her right eye and smile.

"Then we will go to the city in the morning tomorrow so sleep early and do not read until the morning."

"Yes, yes. I know besides. I already read all the books in my father's study so I do not have any reading materials. Need to borrow some books as well too. I want to learn new skills as well."

"Well then let's finish up this dinner birthday and we go to sleep. Want to sleep with mommy tonight? It is your birthday so..."

"Maybe next time, mom. Ahaha."

"Mou, I will hold your promise then. I need to mother my son as much as possible while he is still a child. I cannot do it if you are in your rebellious phase or when you get a girlfriend."

I laugh at my mother's silly dilemma and while having this nice conversation. I finished my meal and get up from the table. I take my mother's plate as well to wash them.

"Wait, a birthday boy should not do the dishes. Let me do it!"

"It's okay mom. It is not that huge of a deal. You can rest."

My mother sits down while she looks at me washing the dishes at the dinner table.

"You act so maturely beyond your age you know. It scares me and yet makes me happy at the same time. I do not want you to grow up just yet..." she muttered.

"What mother? Did you say something?" I ask her as the water runs from the sink dampening her voice.

"Nothing, I just said that you need to sleep early as we need to go early tomorrow."

"Oh yeah, I got it. I will go right to sleep after this."

Mother got up and say goodnight to me as she kisses me on the forehead.

As I watch my mother walk upstairs to her room, in my heart, I feel the warmth and I know that I miss this motherly warmth back in my previous world. I hope I can protect this peace in this war-ridden world.
